hey everyone,
Well it was time to get out and wet a line, and its the first session of 2024. Its been howling with wind and rain, and I thought why not go out and fish the storm. Super strong westerly, and not wanting to travel far, decided on fishing Yarmouth pier. First cast into the fish, and had a lovely little spotted ray.
Hope you enjoy

Hey mate, defo buddy, nice to get a couple for sure. So happy with the Ray, was out last night, but was much harder going. Ended up moving. Grippers kept getting pulled out with the surf. Note to self, leave the braid at home when it's big surf😂😂👍🎣🎣

@@FrugalOutdoors yes the braid on big tides or swell is hard , I’ve just swapped back to both reels on mono through the winter , I may go back to braid spring/summer time. Did you go the same mark ?

Yeah it's not brilliant is it. I'm hoping I can get through some of it to scratch about tonight. Hoping I can use it to get a coupe of fresh pout to use for bait. We'll see how it goes🤞👍🎣🎣

Thanks Peter. We do have one main river running into the middle of the island. The Medina, it used to be really good for flounder apparently, but not so much these days. Still very good for passing though👍🎣🎣

Hi Dylan ... Knowing you like to eat what you catch ... Have you ever tried dogfish? ... On the west coast of Ireland, the coastal chippies sell them as 'rock salmon' ... They taste pretty good with chips ... But a bugger to prepare ... Congrats, on the first spotted ray of the year, along with your usual Conger fest ... well done to Nick, on his double 👏 ... Hey John mate, I've been known to take one or two every now and then. If the freezer is low, I'll take a couple. At the moment we still have some bass, but the bream has now all gone, so undoubtedly I'll take a couple soon. I really like it, we make little scampi style bites with it. Very tasty👍🎣🎣

Thanks buddy, yeah I didn't know until my mate told me. He used to fish it as a youngster, and said it went on quite a way. So if you fish the left hand side straight out, only do that on the flood, so you end up missing it👍👍🎣🎣

Happy New Year Dylan! I have a question, how far do you have to cast when you fishing at Fort Victoria, when I went there it was full of seaweed, and great video👍

Hey buddy, happy new year to you. You don't have to cast mike's at fort Victoria, it does help to get into the deeper water, but if you can cast 60 yards it's still pretty deep. It can be really weedy there of it's blowing, and especially when the tide is going out. Try to fish it from low up, or a couple of hours before low. If it's a massive spring tide, you're better off trying somewhere else in my opinion. Hope that helps👍👍🎣🎣

My first session broke a long stream of blanks at a particular mark, and I caught my first three bearded rockling. I expect that everything will get worse from now until the end of the year, but that's ok.

Thanks mate, much appreciated. It's the prolific winter suit. It's basically the cheapest set I could find. And I have to say I really rate it. The straps are a bit rubbish, I have to tighten them up every maybe 5 times I use it. But for the price I don't think you can go wrong👍👍🎣🎣
