From Vol. 1 of the 2-platter Philips 1958 stereo album, "The Ray Conniff Hi-Fi Companion". This is vintage Conniff, with his arrangements of some of the most popular songs of the late 1950s.
Ray Conniff was one of a kind. The first, and only, composer to blend chorus and music into a single sound. My favorite Conniff tune is La Mer or Beyond the Sea.
In 1959, I was in 11th grade and I actually went to a teen party that played only Ray Conniff music the whole time. I remember it being a good time, visiting with friends and dancing with a few girls. I have about 40 or so of his many hit LP's and I use Ray's music to "rock me to sleep" at night. Thanks Ray for such great music.
I first heard Ray when i was a young child in the 60s when my mum would play his albums.I get just as much joy today as i did then. That album Hi Fi companion was by far his best.
Oh, my. Ok, if you look at the picture to the left of these words, you know I'm a guitar player. I probably look like a "fairly modern rock guy". So what is somebody like me doing liking this "beautiful music"? I dunno...maybe because it's beautiful? lol I first heard this tune on an easy listening station from Tifton, GA around 1980. It just blew me away. Because stations like that played their music on rotation with no DJ, it took me years of detective work to find this was a Conniff tune. And it was worth it, because I just adore it. Listening to this is like running your hand across soft, smooth velvet. Exquisite.
This theme was used in a radio programme here in Chile. The radio announcer called up teenagers of that time to ask for a song according to a prepared listing. One of those radio listeners won a prize. The programme was called EL TOCADISCOS and the radio announcer was Julio Gutiérrez. The sponsor was a record shop called RAPSODIA (afterwards it became LA FERIA DEL DISCO) July 2019 Santiago of Chile
Simply a masterpiece... To my mind one of the most representative of Ray Conniff 's orchestral performances. Almost a hymn ! I remember I heard it at my 12-13 years old. Santiago, Chile. Hcrun thank you very much indeed !
Such wonderful (S'Wonderful? Ha ha!) music. Played this on the Pasadena City College station, KPCS-now KPCC--in the late 50s, early 60s, ahead of what turned out to be a really enjoyable radio career, mostly here in Los Angeles.
