One of the great stories involving Ray Conniff. When Marty Robbins C&W hit "Singing The Blues" started making an impact, Mitch Miller got Guy Mitchell into the studio with Ray and cut a 'pop' version of the song, and it went to #1 on the pop music charts. Meanwhile, Marty's version had not only reached #1 in Country Music, but also made it to #17 on the Billboard Hot 100. Marty was rather ticked off that his own label had undercut his hit and let everyone at Columbia know about it. Mitch, recognizing that Marty was selling a lot of records, offered to make up for that by bringing him to New York to cut some songs and Columbia would give him a full marketing boost. Marty went to New York and into the studio with Ray Conniff as the orchestra leader. Out of that came "A White Sport Coat (And A Pink Carnation)", a #1 C&W and #2 Pop music hit and a million seller.
What a treasure!! To see the great master/maestro Ray Conniff at work on the tune that started it all for me, when I was a little kid, when I first heard this on my parents stereo back in 1963! This was the tune that caused me want to become a drummer/musician! Thanks so much for these great videos, Manfred!
I'm smiling as I listen to this gem,.................................and at the same time angry with myself at 81 for not discovering the magic of this maestro much earlier....say 40 years ago. Lesb Griffiths Australia
I grew up with this music thanks to my dad and I always thought I'd meet a marvelous man to love me like these songs popularized. Well bull shit life can hand you nothing like what you dream of.
Ray Conniff along with his Orchestra and Chorus was a Grammy Award winning band leader and conductor. His 2 biggest hits were " Love Me With All Your Heart" in 1962 and "Somewhere My Love"-The Theme from Dr. Zhivago in 1965. Throughout the 50's and 60's they provided the background music for many artists including Guy Mitchell's 1956 hit " Singing The Blues"- Ray Conniff is the one doing the whistling. They also backed up Connie Francis on many of her hits.

Corrections: "Love Me With All Your Heart" was a hit by the Ray CHARLES Singers. Conniff never backed up Connie Francis.
@ - I apologize. I thought I recognized Ray Conniff on a couple of Connie's songs but I checked her discography and I couldn't find any reference to Conniff. Was sure that was Ray Conniff whistling on her hit "Many Tears Ago". I can admit when I am wrong. Also it was the Ray Charles Singers on "Love Me With All Your Heart". How could I have been so wrong. I pride myself on my knowledge. Ray Charles and his singers had about a 30 year relationship with Perry Como and sang background for him. I do know that. Thanks for setting me straight. I will research my info from now on before I stick my foot in my mouth.
Early in the morning when i was on my way to work at Land Rover in the 1980 i used to listen to Ray Moore on BBC Radio 2 when he played this record he used to say l can hear a thousand tape recorders clicking
Hello the 9 persons that thumbed down this video, please kindly share what is it that made you thumbed it down. I honestly would like to know. Thank you kindly.
Most likelythey do not know about real music. Do not ask to explain why they did not like to see a Real musician transforming a feeling into sounds to end in this wonderful tune.
Brainwashed into believing that current computer generated studio sound is somehow music, the louder the bass the better it is, the more aurotune used the better and don't get me started on rap, this is old people's music, the kids who think McDonald's is great food those kind, I don't know I grew up with two teenage sister's in the sixties who liked the Beatles our uncle even took them to see them in Atlantic city, I was only 6 or 7 but I waa a nerd before the word was even invented and I listened to the two easy listening stations there were in the NY NJ area, WPAT and WRFM, what can I say, i still love it.
