One of my earliest memories is my Dad taking me to see a double bill of 'Jason And The Argonauts' and 'Sinbad And The Eye Of The Tiger' To say my mind was blown is an understatement. I not only became a huge fan of Ray Harryhausen that day, i fell in love with movies too. RIP Ray Harryhausen 🙏❤🦖📽✌

Both Talos and the skeletons scared me silly when I saw this in my younger years. That is probably why I love this movie to this day. I have to thank my father for seeing that I watched these sorts of movies.

Many years ago I attended my first fantasy film convention in the 'burbs of D.C. After Mr. Harryhausen had concluded his presentation, he told the fans that he would be available for autographs in about an hour. Pressed for time, I shamelessly waited for his departure from behind the curtains, then I sprang onto him requesting an autograph for his book," Film Fantasy Scrapbook". When I explained my urgency, he reluctantly conceded. At a distance, another fan saw us and soon a crowd formed and came rushing towards us. I quickly departed hearing Mr. Harryhausen say, "Oh-no." Looking back then, I still feel bad for being so selfish.

I also met the great Ray Harryhausen at a fantasy / horror conviction in Los Angeles. Circa 1980's (about that time somewhere.) I know it was the '80's 'cause of how I was dressed. I patiently waited in line, and was a well behaved, love-filled fan. However, I could see Ray slightly narrow his eyes as he took in my torn jeans, black harness boots, my metal-studded-punk-rocker-black-leather-jacket covered in patches, enamel pens, and spikes. I told him how very important he was to me, and how he changed my life. Sure, I bet he's heard it all so many times, over and over again, that, yeah, he seemed a little jaded. When I reached the table where he was signing photos, I was informed he didn't 'inscribe' photos "to anyone" anymore. Too many names to misspell, etc... However, when I happily & VASTLY OVER PAID for a black & white 8x10 of him (and his 6 inch skeleton), he smiled and inscribed: "To Brad, 'sweeping slash' Ray Harrhausen" ~ no trouble. I blathered on about how he inspired me to become an artist, and to go after my dreams, and now I was making a living as an artist. "Weeellll..." Taking in my appearance once more he dead-panned; "As long as it keeps you off the streets and out of trouble." Then, he gave me the slyest smile. I was in heaven.

I saw Jason and the Argonauts on the big screen as a kid, not on its original release but as a Saturday morning film at the cinema in my town, and it was amazing! I still love all of Ray Harryhausen's movies.

Absolutely incredible work!. - Unbelievable - Ray's a ONE-MAN stop motion animation team - ( yes, he worked alone! ). His creatures have more emotional impact than most other animation you see. Ray had a real sense of how creatures moved I the real world. Ray studied how animal's moved, and how people moved, how they move while they weight the 100 lbs, or 200 lbs they are supposed to weigh. HE takes that ll into effect, and it shows. That's why they look like they are alive - fooling the brain on some primitive level.Ray Harryhausen helped direct the movements of "The Hound of Resurrection" in the first "HELLBOY" movie - he showed them how to animate The Hound with more realistic animal movements. Ray's stop motion creatures move like they have WEIGHT to them. Most animation doesn't take that into effect... much CGI looks like it's weightless, it bounces around with no since of physics - and the creatures are so unrelated to the rest of the way things are moving in the film that it's far less convincing. Ray also has a real high sense of building suspense, and building anticipation - everything is so dramatic. You get that sense of 'shock' along with the actors when they see something that just 'cannot be!" You "FEEL" the tension, the fearfulness of the actors facing this monsters. Ray Harrahausen, lost of the real Movie Magicians!

Ray Harryhausen. Magnificent! Wonderful humble genius. One man: 50s, 60s, 70,s cinematic magic. All one man: if it was spectacular, it was Ray Harrhausen.. Creations the pathos of which could make an audience weep. All on a shoestring budget. Stupid billion dollar Rings of power could have learned from him; but are unable - because Ray Harryhausen was an old white heterosexual man who put entertainment and audience first!
