I just love Ray Lynam think he's the best country singer Ireland ever produced, went to see Philomena and him with Mike Denver in the Gleneage Killarney recently they were just brilliant and well worth seeing.
They've a real feeling for the lyrics, and a beautiful measured delivery. It's hard to separate Ray from George Jones. Keep on performing, Ray and Phil...
First heard this song coming from a morris minior car outside Jacob Leon Rubenstein's pub in Cappagh at 4 am in the morning in 1974. I was having a drink with Shane McGowan inside . Shane asked me who was that singing on the car radio outside . I told him, next thing he wrote about Ray and Phil in a song , A pair of brown eyes. By the way Shane thanks for the halfin and bottle.

Ha, yeah. If there's one thing I've learned, over the years, it's that inspiration is where you find it. It's a kind of syrupy song, but it has that element of dreams and wandering that fits with "A-rovin', a-rovin', a-rovin' I'll go, for a pair of brown eyes."
