On this episode of R&B Money, Tank and J Valentine are visited by the legendary Ray Parker Jr. Ray will talk about his beginnings in music, first learning the clarinet, breaking his leg and learning to play the guitar, which landed him at Motown making more money tan most adults at 15 years of age. Ray will discuss his close relationships with Marvin Gaye, Barry White and teaching Stevie Wonder how to drive. His knack for flying aircrats. And of course, his legendary catalogue of music. Listen and enjoy!

These youngins don't realize that Ray Parker had some jams back in the day. Not Ghostbusters. Ray was talking abt "I'm in love with the other woman"..."A woman needs love just like you do. She can fool around just like you do"..... Ray was talking abt "I wanna be 2 places at the same time. Inside you and inside ya mind". He was ahead of his time because alot of R&b artists weren't setting out those kinda topics that would come much later with artists such as R. Kelly and K. Sweat. #GOAT

I don't know if everyone really "listen" to Ray and what he was saying. First for those that don't know Holland Dozier Holland was the super Motown producer that wrote and produced all the major hits for the Supremes, Marvelettes, Four Tops, and others. They were the hitmakers of that time. Think Jam and Lewis and LA and Face for the '60 and early 70's.. When they left Motown and formed their own label Invictus/Hot Wax Ray was playing for them which means it is he who you are hearing on most of those songs like Band Of Gold, Want Ads, Give Me Just a little more time, etc. I'm a radio Dj and have worked on many many radio stations and Ray is right. When Ghostbusters came in....we were like "what is this?". We are used to songs that Ray did like "For Those that like to Groove" "The Other Woman" "Two Places at the Same Time" "That Old Song". Ghostbusters sounded too much to me like Huey Lewis "I wanna new drug". But oh well....we didn't care. It was Ray Parker Jr and he was a black core artist for radio. By the way make no mistake.....That story about Frankie Crocker I'm sure was 100% all the way true. Black radio Programmers really ruled the airways, especially in the major markets. Some could be ruthless. Some are STILL ruthless. Trust me. For those that disagree..talk to me when you have your #1 song on the radio. This episode was very enjoyable and not just because it was considered "old school" but the knowledge that "SIr Ray" gives is something that young people can take from. Lots of wisdom here. Thank you for an amazing episode.

I could make a list of r&b related goats that I would want to eventually see on here, but after hearing the Stevie wonder driving & fight story, I think we all know who y'all need to get on here asap. Also that episode at a minimum has to be at least 2-3 hrs long or I'll be forced to report this RU-vid page.

RPJ suggesting one invest in crypto, stocks, real estate is why he is 💯. It’s why he is so wealthy. Having lost money he has learned how to accumulate it. Great public service to have shared what he did at the end of this interview. Shouts to T&JV for this!

Whenever you can get insight from someone whose been doing it as long as SIR Ray Parker... You need to take that advice & run with it. To think that he wrote a song, out of his comfort zone, got record placement, AND movie placement that has gone through FOUR iterations & spanned FORTY YEARS (1983 TO CURRENT) is Mind Blowing. Then you add all the other stuff... Heck my niece LOVES Mr. telephone man and she was born 30 years after it was written!

I love this interview with sir ray Parker jr! The financial literacy game that he was giving is very well needed among all nationalities especially black folks! We have the tendency to overspend on dumb stuff & not think about real estate & stock options! Thank you tank & j Valentine for bring this brother on your show! I remember listening some of his music when I was growing up-( jack and Jill, a woman needs love, the other woman, you can’t change that, as well as ghostbusters) Great interview, very well needed!

This show was epic! I was always a fan of Ray Parker, Jr., but I had no idea about his deep roots in the music industry. He is phenomenal and still fine! Please have more R&B legends from the 70s and 80s on the show. Great job, gentlemen!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Wow! RPJ is still handsome and in great shape. A legend. I'm a dancer and approach music from a rhythmical place and he and the bands he's worked with are my soundtrack. That crabs in a bucket story is wild! Jealousy is a real monster.
