It may be a big trick of the eyes on camera as to me the strings lengths are now different, the strings take off points, where strings leave the saddles to vibrate, now seem longer... a good bridge but can you string damp easy while playing it ?... i looked up the design and it is well made with easy ajusting wheels, makes sense & to me sounds better but i would have to try one.. 👍
I've heard that the fender height adjustment pins are much more uncomfortable than the Ray Ross. Makes sense. You have tiny screws digging into your palm, whereas the Ross are big rounded bulbs.
@@edwardjohnson1660 ...thats true..all my Fender bass's used to have sharp grub screws...first find out if metric or imperial, measure & buy any length you want bud...got my mixed length bag of grub screws on EBay for £5...only needed 2 sizes & no sharp stabbing grub screw heads...never tried the Ray Ross bridge, seen & heard it on RU-vid ,i have a £40,000 AV system.... good enough to hear differences in footpedals, speaker cabinets, bass's etc etc, it looks well designed & built....
I don't get the point of this design, to be honest. Probably just innovation for its own sake. I hear less harmonics, attack and high end, probably due to the lack of downward pressure (no break angle!) and a certain amount of damping caused by the extra string wraps @ the ball end. And if there's any silk around the string ends, this effect might be even more noticeable. And talking about damping: This bridge doesn't exactly look as if palm-muting was made any easier or more comfortable...
I don't think it will catch on. Mostly because their is no string thru option. And it's not that big a difference. Nothing that can't be fix in mix down. Cool idea! But not very convincing. Although if you have a extra long scale bass and you have a problem with string length? Then maybe.
Okay harmonics sound like shit (3rd set of comparisons). Same with slap. It was impressive with the first set of comparisons because it’s so overwhelmingly bassy. Then the rest of the clips show it’s just a loss of high end detail. The double stops sound the most similar. The Ray Ross performs progressively worse as highs become more important.
It’s not rational, but there’s just something about this bridge I don’t like. It seems……unnatural. (Appearance only I can’t hear a difference in tone).
