Oh! I know this one! If the door was locked, Marie would ring the doorbell incessantly until someone answers, then act offended, accusing Ray/Debra of either hiding something that would necessitate the door being locked or sending a signal that they don't want her there ever again!

@@AndrewMacLaine Then do not answer the doorbell or disable the doorbell. if you look through the peephole and see someone who dislikes then you do not have to open the door.

If you already made up your mind and unwilling to change your opinion than just don't ask questions! If this is what you write: _Why not just lock the door?_ you invite other people to give you an answer. If this is what you write: _Just lock the door!_ people gonna understand you are just giving voice to your frustration and more likely to not reply to your comment.

@@AndrewMacLaine Also Ray is not brave enough to lock the door for the reasons you give so it could be only Debra who does that what means she would have to stand her ground alone knowing Ray will stand behind her mother's back as soon as she give him a bad look. It's a lost cause. The only solution is to move what would end the show.

So, when I said why not just lock the door, I am asking why Raymond/Debra just do not lock the door. Wanting people to give me a response. That does not mean I have to agree with that response. I actually most agree with @AndrewMacLaine about how Marie would react, but then that is why you do not answer the door. It does not take being brave not to answer a door. If I was Raymond I would have put my parents in their place a long time ago. I actually have a fanfiction I have been thinking about writing where Marie and Frank meet Ally's college BF and he immediately stands up to them. Because Marie and Frank are terrible people and for the most part nobody ever calls them on their bullshit. Now, I am going to ask you what is your problem? They definitely contribute.. But as we see, her family is equally dysfunctional in a different way. And though Ray messes up way more often, Debra has some quirks and toxic traits as well
