Someone streaked at the '74 or '75 Oscars. David Nivens was presenting as the man ran behind him. Niven's response was something to the effect of "that man is showing off his shortcomings" 🤣🤣🤣

Back in the 70's we had a lot of silly songs on the radio. They were always family friendly and so much fun.

The song came out in the early 70's, but the video wasn't made until the 80's. When it first came out, it was everywhere, on radio and juke boxes, along with people playing it at home for friends. We saw Ray Stevens in Branson, Missouri in 1991 and bought the VHS of his greatest hits which this video was on. During the show we half-way expected someone to start running down the aisle as part of the show.

Great reaction. Ray Stevens has said himself this was one of his most successful songs. Ray Stevens has stated that he first got the idea for the song while reading a news magazine on an airplane. The magazine included a brief item about streaking, and Ray thought that it was a "great idea for a song" and started writing notes; later, he wrote some lines after returning home from his trip, but did not complete the song at that time. Some time later, Stevens says he "woke up and it was all over the news. Everywhere you turned, people were talking about streakers". Ray then rushed to complete and record the song and have it released. According to Stevens, there were already 15 other songs released about streaking by the time his was released, and there ended up being 35 to 40 such records in all. Ray had released the song less than a week before the televised 46th Academy Awards, during which Robert Opel created an uproar after he streaked across the stage behind host David Niven. Thought you'd like a little bit about the song. Another good Ray Stevens song is "Sitting up with the dead".

This song is now 50 years old........had the pleasure of catching his show LIVE for a week, at the theatre at Knott's Berry Farm in California,....it was released at the 'end' of the streaking 'craze'. In 4months after the release he sold, like 3 milllion copies of the single. He has his own studio, production company, he writes, plays most instruments......he is a producer......Great memory.

This was the first ever record I bought in '74 when I was 11. I still have it and chuckle every time I hear it. I have a fascination with comic songs and have a good collection. "Don't look, Ethel!"

50s-70s had lots of novelty songs. They have a short shelf I was a Michigan State University when this was a hit. The university had 45k students. Thousands streaked in the dorms and outside. The fad ended quickly. I wondered in this PC climate would there harassment laws now. There was peer pressure to streak but I don’t remember anyone being forced. Of course there was safety in numbers.

This was a 1970's fad. This song and David Niven's quip on the live Oscar's broadcast when a streaker ran onstage in front of the world were the only good parts of this narcissistic fad.

I also was proud of my physique and was part of the fad.

I'd never seen the video. I'm sure I still have the 45 somewhere in records. Fun memories.

Dude its not so much that you pause too often its that you talk for so effen long make notes. music has a flow. ive seen you pause and talk for 4+ min. in the middle of the song. I admit i really do enjoy your videos. about Rush, i talked to Geddy Lee at a book signing and his preference is studio first live second.
