Can I just say that I respect this so much, no screaming before you unrack, no ammonia caps, no loud music, etc. Your ability to lift so much under such calm circumstances is amazing
Incredible. It almost made me nervous how long he stood there before going down. Most people would want to get that over with asap, but then again...you've got to respect that much weight. You can't treat it like it should be lifted quickly and without care. Ray Williams is a beast!
Love how hard this guy works and how humble he stays with such phenomenal lifts (in addition to lifting in a federation that's notorious for stringent form and drug tests). Keep going man, you're an inspiration to us all.
@@IamWoodstaman just replying in the hopes that 3 years later youve grown up enough to be embarrassed by how you act online. Totally silly rude comment.
Barrack Dovahkhiin this is just training so who cares...he holds the world open raw record in a fed that is known for being ridiculously over strict with depth requirements...everyone knows hes the man
Almost as impressive is the fact that his body withstood the full load of 800lb + his own weight for nearly 2 minutes. Holy shit his nervous system must have been on overdrive.
Strong beyond belief and great effort - keep doing what you are doing - there aren't coaches out there that can lift what you do - don't over complicate it .
@@EmoPeter2000 ummm Mark Henry was at the very top of the powerlifting world before getting into entertainment wrestling for financial reasons. He's also a weightlifter who's competed in the Olympics and placed in the top 10 despite not having trained for very long or have specialised training (Mark started out with powerlifting), he also won the first Arnold's strongman classic despite weighing much less than his powerlifting days and only training for two months after a 5 year hiatus. He even dunked a basketball while weighing over 400 lbs, if that's not athletic, idk what is.
Btw, do you ever do chain squats? I added some chains to my bar and it helped a lot in my explosiveness. I also added some power cleans to help my explosion too. Just curious. Take it as you will.
Ray, impressive lifts! Congrats and keep up the good work. I agree with the others, try to get in touch with the coaches mentioned, especially Mark Rippetoe (you can find him on startingstrength website) and/or Justin Lascek, who by the way thinks very highly of you. With the right coach, you can become the best in the sport. Good luck!
All these guys are great. I am sure Matt Gary, Sioux-Z, and Mike Zourdos would work together to help you get to a 1,000 lbs squat and beyond. Great squatting!
Those look like the same plates at my gym! I actually weighed them. They were mostly 45.5 lbs. So unlike some other gyms, those weights are pretty much what they say!
My only advice would be to find a gym with equipment that can be loaded with the amount of weight you need for training. If you want to seek coaching, I would follow Rob Schmidt's (rhsalaska) and go with a very reputable coach. You're going to go far. Keep up the good work
It's kind of hard to tell due to you being massive, but are you really squatting high bar? If so that just makes this all the more impressive. Mark Bell would be an excellent choice to contact and I'm sure he'd love to talk with you.
Connect with a highly reputable coach in USAPL. Matt Gary (Coaching Committee Chair, Supreme Sports Performance & Training owner), Mike Tuchscherer (Reactive Training Systems), Mike Zourdos, 70's Big Jason Lascek, Starting Strength Mark Rippetoe, USAPL President Larry Maile. These people are all human beings, they are all available on Facebook or other sources, and all would be an invaluable source of information. You have the genetic gift. Stay humble, get a good coach, be a world champion
Others, in no particular order... Gene Bell (Ian Bell's dad), Brad Gillingham (Jackal's Gym), Bull Stewart (Team Phoinix, yep that's how they spell it), Sherman Ledford (Quest Athletics), Wade Hooper. Whatever you do, DO NOT associate with a coach not in USAPL. All the people I have mentioned have either coached, or are themselves, International Powerlifting Federation champions.
I know it's a psyche up technique to sit there for a sec, but try to shorten the time. When I do 485 for reps, I do admit I rest for a second...not too long though. It's the same reason you don't un-rack barbell bench and hold it over your chest for 20 seconds before pressing. All in all, you have some killer form on squat man! Keep it up and I will be rooting for you to hit 1000!!!
lookin good Ray. Keep your elbows down. when they shoot up you may have noticed that you lean forward, almost like your folding in the T spine. by keeping them down you will keep you upper back tight and you will drive right through that sticking point. give it a shot. Its an easy fix. could add 25 to 50lbs right there.
The best advice is to find some powerlifters and train with them when you can, an experienced powerlifting coach in real life is worth a lot more than video critiques online. Google "powerliftingwatch alabama" and click the first link, it'll have a long list of powerlifting-friendly gyms in Alabama
Are you suggesting that someone who benches 3 plates knows everything about squatting and programming and someone who doesn't bench 3 plates knows nothing? If so, then go look at his video of him benching 320 @ 175. Or you could have turned on the Arnold's stream today and watched him squat 501 @ 165. Pretty weak squat considering the best squat at the 1st IPF Classic Cup last year was 501 @ 162.
I know who Ray is. And it's not uncommon to squat high in training as with supers it may take max weights to hit parallel (as it does with Ray by the looks of things). It's constructive criticism...
Some of these people are good (Mark Rippetoe certainly doesnt know much) but your best bet is to seek out those that are even stronger! The Lilliebridge family would certainly help you if you sought them out.
