Far too often I see people praise this game. That's not to say they are wrong, however i don't think very many people understand how much better this game could've been.

The entire point of your title is to catch peoples attention, if your title is doing nothing but pissing people off just to make them rage click the video then your basically just being a Kotaku urinalist trying to get views. I played both of them in a row and i like the tight and fast paced level design of Origins more. Not that Legends is slow but i personally don't like the new things they added in Legends like that one frog creature thing and the races. They were good as a one-off thing but trying to fully complete Legends is monotonous because of the Evil Rayman races. Also not a big fan of the scratch cards and the whole hub world in general but that might just be a small nitpick. The addition of a rhythm-based musical finale to some of the levels is definitely the best thing about Legends

i always wondered if they kept the clothing but made the nymphs less busty would people whine as much because the origjnal Rayman 1 nymphs have more of a fairytale book kind of vibe that doesn't fit at all with the atmosphere of Origins while the modern nymphs look more mystrious and interesting

Watching this video again, and to be honest I find this video very weak. I think you've could've gotten way more in-depth about...well, the game itself. Because most of the video is you being very disappointed that there isn't a detailed story, making weird remarks about how "horny" the Nymphs are(which can I say, I'm REALLY sick of that. The only thing that plays up how horny they are is the people who get really bothered about their designs. The game itself doesn't really play into that outside of the music when you rescuing them being kind of saucy. And they're such a VERY small part of the game anyway, their presence is not enough to make Origins an "inappropriate" game. Rayman 3 is more edgy and risque; anything that came out of Bégoniax's mouth is frankly shocking for a family game), and very little time is spent on how the game plays or what the levels are actually like. It comes across like you didn't spend much time with the game; you brought up how much of a pain it is to not have enough lums. Speaking from experience, I almost never had that problem; the only level that gave me a hard time was the first level of Gourmand Land, that one is weirdly tight with its Lums for some reason. If you're just being thorough and not rushing through the levels, you should be able to have enough lums. And I generally prefer to complete Origins, because I find it the most fun and fulfilling way to play the game. It seems like your too focused on the game lacking the story that you couldn't appreciated the game for what it is. I find Origins to be a very well designed game that oozes in charm and beautiful imagery; the world is cohesive and breathtaking, striking this nice in-between of Rayman 1's surreal environments with Rayman 2 and 3's more subdued settings. The thick outlines of the characters contrast wonderfully with the painterly worlds you run around in; I find Origin's presentation better than Legends because they do a much better job making the experience feel like a coherent world, while Legends feels more like a checklist of fun activities that only 20,000 Lums Under The Sea compares in terms of Origin's cohesion. The costumes actually have neat bits of lore; when grabbing onto Polokus's beard, he has unique things to say about each costume, which are implied to be characters themselves. I do agree that Origins could've had a better story and perhaps should've included those manual details somewhere in the game, but it's not *lacking* a story. It's about on par with Rayman 1 in terms of how "deep" it gets; hell, Rayman 2 and 3 are really not that story driven. They just have a lot of dialogue, which I think is the real sour point of Origins and not so much it not having a story. It does have a story, just not a detailed one. Rayman and co. are snoring too loudly which angers the inhabitants of The Land of the Livid Dead, and now they must save the world from them. Along the way they rescue the Nymphs, and must cure the Four Kings to gain access to the final world. By the end it's revealed that The Magician was behind everything(to give a real critique of the story here, the game doesn't do a good job conveying that idea. There's actually a lot of unused plot details surrounding The Magician that were just removed in the final game; he was the one that put the microphone in The Snoring Tree which lead to the events of the game, he secretly hold a lot of adoration for Mr. Dark, and other details that further fleshes him out. It's a shame they were removed because it would've made the story feel way more complete and coherent; as is, it feels like some context is missing.) Polokus and The Magician are the only characters with flavorful dialogue, the rest of the characters who do speak don't have much interesting to say, and they could've done a better job with that. But even so, I think Origins does well enough with its more minimal story the same way Rayman 1 did, and I would argue that it's more coherently designed than 2 and 3. I love the worlds of those games, but you are just going through portals and stuff to progress; Origins aims to make each world transition seamlessly to another, which I really appreciate and it's something Legends doesn't do. To speak more on my feelings towards Legends, I do think that game is very fun but I overall prefer Origins. Legends has a lot of cool ideas and fun levels, but it feels way less cohesive. Levels feel more like one-offs, the Murfy levels aren't really my favorites, and the Painting Gallery as a level select is more disruptive than Origin's worldmap. The game also just...doesn't have a real story, even less so than Origins. The intro cutscene is "some bad guys are attacking, IDK do something" and then for the rest of the game nothing happens. Olympus Maximus is such a weak final world because it doesn't build to anything, compared to other worlds it's the least coherent, and the "final" boss(I put that in quotations because you can fight the bosses in any order to finish the game, so you could make the case the Legends doesn't really have a REAL final boss) is just really lame. I think it's interesting how perspectives on Origins and Legends differ from Rayman fans and a general audience; a lot of people adore Legends and think it's a vastly superior game to Origins, while to Rayman fans it's actually one of the more polarizing games from what I've seen due to how similar it is from Origins and how it loses on some of the finer details. I'm kind of confuse Origins "not having a story" is a dealbreaker for you, but Legends gets a pass even though it's even worse about that. Not saying you're wrong for preferring one game over the other, I just think you could've explained yourself better. But yeah to wrap this up, I don't hold any ill feelings towards you for this video. You're a smaller creator and you have a lot of room to grow, and the video is fairly well edited even if the points you were making aren't very in-depth. I'm not saying you should change your mind about the game or anything, if you don't hold strong feelings towards it than more power to you. But I do think that how you approach this game is kind of a disservice to it; I think it deserves way more in-depth analysis than what is presented in this video. And yeah...that's about it, sorry for the long comment. Origins is one of my all-time favorite games, so I just wanna throw my thoughts out here. I wish you the best in your future vids!
I loved Origins, although I played it co-op with my (then very young) nephews, which is definitely a different experience to playing it by yourself. It has very good mechanics for playing with kids; you can always bail them out even if they keep dying, and so even though it has some challenging platforming, it doesn't get frustrating and feel like you're making no progress. The stacked fairies were definitely an odd choice, lol. But as I said I played it with kids and didn't think twice about it, so I wouldn't say it's too much or anything, it's just a bit odd is all.

Sure you can criticze the level design and what the game gives you, may be you could say the lack of story makes you uninterested... But why call out them for putting a story behind the manual? Bruh you should know that happened A LOT in early gaming, like NES, SNES, may be even N64 era stuff. Not to mention this is a 2d platformer, which part of the time didn't have major plots.... But I suppose that is me making excuses for why at this rate. I guess all I can say on that is that whenever I saw this game, I assume it wasn't exactly a story heavy game, but a gameplay based one (as I note the lack of much cut scenes I see being shared and epic story details) kinda similar to Legends I think. I can’t agree with this video…it’s just a bunch nymphs…it’s not like it’s the main focus of the game. I personally don’t mind their re-design. Legends and Origins are literally the same game…
I'm sorry, but this has to be one of the most disingenuous reviews I've ever seen. You're just saying all this stuff in such a voice that it exposes how little you actually seem to care about the game itself. Yeah, not everyone has to be super energetic per say, but you could at least put some more effort into talking about the game, because I've seen a review of this game that actually makes me want to actually buy it and not just remember it.
Complaining about the lack of story in a game that isn't about having a story at all seems rather... redundant. The Nymph designs are fine. A bit of cartoonish sexiness never killed anyone, and you'd have to be an incredible prude to be bothered by it. Origins deserves the praise it has gotten, but hey, it's ok to be wrong sometimes.

For the fairies I agree having sex appeal is good in some games but I'd rather it not be in a children's game. Most people I've called out about them wanting "sexual ideas" in a kid's franchise has since deleted their comments. But hey it's okay to be wrong and miss the point of the entire video.

Speaking as a layperson who's been dipping her toes into the trilogy but had yet to look at Origins and wanted to get a little preview of why everyone lambasted the post-trilogy stuff, this was enlightening, and I think especially the whole horniness aspect ABSOLUTELY brings the whole thing down from what I can see here, because it directly contrasts with prior themes. Like, Ly in R2 is pretty scantily clad, but they don't really draw attention to it or make jokes about it. She wears what she wears and that's the end of it. There's no animation of Rayman thirsting for her, or any shot of her trying to engage the player, and she's got a thin body type that's cartoonish and stylized, whereas Betilla and co. in this game seem to all have the same hourglassy shape that looks more like it would come out of a hentai than a cartoon. And as much as I hate the Bégoniax subplot in R3 (Razoff was a cool villain and deserved better than becoming her slave), it was enlightening toward Rayman's character. Like, in the footage you've played here, Rayman is staring at these fairies and occasionally...blowing their skirts up?...what...but it seems to be in this way where he's kinda harassing them a little. In R3, as soon as Bégoniax showed up, we saw that Rayman was instead the victim of that kind of harassment, and through it all, he was a perfect gentleman who was mortified that he accidentally crashed into her bathroom and just wanted to move on with his life. She ended her boss fight by making REALLY crude come-hither comments and he just presses on because he's got to take his best friend to the doctor. So having him suddenly be so interested in The Ladies(TM) kinda goes against what we saw from him before, especially given how Bégoniax treated him and how he reacted then. Like, I do think that there's a time and place for fanservice in games and it can enhance the experience to have attractive characters (of any gender). And, heck, I still love the joke in R3 of Globox being tricked into thinking a cardboard cutout of Uglette in lingerie was the real thing. (Because he's a loving husband who's always hot for his wife and that's awesome! We love marriages where the passion still burns!) But this DIRECTLY contradicts themes and plot points established earlier in the trilogy. It was just gratuitously added to a series that tonally was never known for that sort of thing. And so much of this footage is the game basically holding your hand and going "You're SUPPOSED to think they're sexy! Wink wink!" rather than them just...being. The way Ly was just allowed to exist in her own skin, and you as the player can decide whether or not you're into her. Also, that Globox redesign fills me with despair. I love Globox. He deserves better than to have the most unrealistic facial expression ever PERMANENTLY FROZEN ON HIM no matter what he does. ...I still kinda wanna look up fuller playthroughs and footage from this game though because I'm a masochist and the cat that curiosity killed, and maybe there are SOME lore bits here that would enhance the trilogy if divorced from context, and there is some art stuff that looks cool. Final boss monster tickles my horror sensibilities before it turns into the bonus fairy. But I thank you for the warning to lower my expectations significantly.
to be fair the blowing up the skirt shit is from the e3 trailer, and the game was majorly different back than, including actually having blowing things with ur propellors be a part of the game, though the suggestive themes are kinda strange, i didnt mind as a kid but now as a adult it seems odd, kinda gives the game a unique thing going for it ngl though, could just be nostalgia speaking
I just wanna say, I do highly recommend buying and playing Origins for yourself. I think the reviewer really undersells the game, Origins is a fantastic 2D platformer that's very much worth experiencing. There isn't much of a story, but the game doesn't really suffer from that; the game is designed very well with its minimal story presentation. Also experiencing Origins through Legends is the worst way to experience the game; the levels are tweaked to be easier and overall less interesting, there are missing levels, and the overall structure and pacing is just botched because you have to play a scratchcard minigame to even have the chance to unlock them. And personally speaking, I actually prefer Origins over Legends. Also, regarding the Nymphs; the game *really* isn't that focused on them. For all of them, you A) rescue them in the first level and gain a new power, and B) meet them again to access the final world. That's it, the game doesn't really objectifies them or make inappropriate remarks about their appearances. They are designed to look attractive(or at least, the Jessica Rabbit kind of attractive that's meant to be played for laughs), but the game really doesn't focus on that much outside of initially saving them and having the "sexy" music play. If anything, Rayman 3 has way more inappropriate jokes(that bit about Globox falling for a cardboard cutout? That's not his wife, the joke is that he's cheating on his wife). And I don't see why Origins is criticized for not being consistent with the trilogy, when the trilogy itself isn't consistent. Rayman 2 has an entirely different world and cast of characters that we're supposed to act like has always been the default. If anything, Rayman 1 is more of an oddball in the series considering how tonally and stylistically different it is. Rayman 3's appeal is that it's basically taking the piss at what Rayman 2 establishes for comedy(don't take it as me dissing the game, I love the game for that). The video itself is honestly pretty weak, no offense to them. I think it really overlooks a lot of the things that makes Origins a fantastic and beloved game, and it gets too hung on the game having "no story"(while also joking about not reading the manuel for the story, which leaves me confused.). And it honestly saddens me to read your comment and see you make a bunch of assumptions about the game, because it shows that the video is giving people the wrong idea about the game. The game is very much worth the pricetag on steam(It's $20, which is a REALLY good price), I highly recommend playing it!
somehow the entirety of rayman origins is available on rayman legends so I played it but I thought it sucked because the level design is boring. rayman legends is WAY better.
You cannot really judge Origins based on the levels that were in Legends, those were altered quite a bit and made much easier, they made them boring in comparison to the actual levels in Origins
@@dr.chickenfingers5696 The structure of Back to Origins in Legends is also problematic. To unlock Origins levels, you have to play a scratch card minigame to even get the chance to unlock them. And adding unto what Mae says, there's missing levels and context when experiencing Back to Origins; whatever story cohesion that was in Origins is just gone, and they mesh the first four worlds with their secondary counterparts which I think makes the pacing worse. You're better off just getting Origins on its own, it's a much more consistent and solid experience than what Legends offers with its versions. And it's like $20 on Steam, which REALLY isn't asking for much I feel.
Not the entirety (I can confirm that as someone who played both games recently). The Land of the Livid Dead level isn't there (just the boss fight and some portions of the level are in the challenges), some of the treasure chase levels are also missing as well as the short levels where you just collect Lums and have to defeat one enemy, and the reveal and escape levels before the final boss.
