HOLY CRAP there are a lot of you now..😂 Im not entirely sure what caused this video to pop off like this, but hello! Welcome! Im glad you all enjoyed the video so much. It means so much to read your kind words and seeing people have genuine discussions in the comments. This whole RU-vid thing has been a big passion of mine and I've had the thought of it turning into a job, but never actually thought of it as feasbile, but after this single day it definitely could happen😅 I'm gonna really try to make these videos more regularly. I dont wanna make any crazy promises, but im gonna shoot for one video every month since i have a full time job on top of this and am also looking at starting community college soon. I hope you all enjoyed the video, and if you did, why not subscribe? Its free and you can always change it later! I have some pretty fun video ideas cooking up in my ginger melon, that i cant wake to make into reality. Thanks for watching and thanks for reading. ❤❤❤
In the Captain Laserhawk show on Netflix, Rayman being angry about being used and then basically thrown out on the streets and dismissed, pretty much sums up the state of Rayman.
With how massively popular Rayman is in Europe, it's a mystery why Ubisoft just sits on this IP. He was the mascot for the French World Cup team for crying out loud! He's long overdue for a new entry
@@Crispybiscuits No that's totally wrong, Michel only left a few years ago, he made the rabbids, Origins and Legends, the only mainline Rayman game he didn't work on was Rayman 3 because he was busy with BG&E. Soliani only worked on Rayman on the GBC and Rayman Arena.
Aren't the top players in the world European? Also every single time I see a diamond cup user in Rayman legends Online Challenges they are always from Europe.
I just find it insane how Rayman as a franchise has produced nothing but insane bangers of games, while Sonic Team barely are able to make Sonic not fall through the ground most the time. Rayman Legends was easily in contention for top 5 platforming games of all time, it is insane how good that game was. And yet nobody cares. Like, at some point you kind of understand how Ubisoft just gives up.
It is more like Rayman had big pauses between "awesome games" where Sonic didn't. Heck, The most common problem you see EACH time they go into details about another Sonic Game Development and what went wrong it is always: - Crazy Deadline - Team was split between different projects ...And after '06 fiasco.. - Small budget - Not enough people. Heck, Sonic Frontiers was Literally Sonic Team's director "Last Hail Mary" because he resolved with his whole team of just 70 people to talk Sega into actually giving him TIME to develop the'"open zone/world" game (still no extra money or ppl btw and for reference in 2000s GTA3 - not San Andreas - The first GTA3 - had 150 people working on it. 70 ppl working on an open world game in a Current Day industry IS A SHEER MADNESS) Sonic Games Franchise is more of a testament of Sonic Team NEVER GIVING UP no matter how many times they get screwed over by management, how they for 15 years were no longer "favorite child" (that would be in 2010s - Ryu Ga Gatoku Studios aka Yakuza devteam and freshly acquired Atlus of SMT and Persona games fame) getting neither money, time or workforce. Heck, Sonic Frontiers has "One Way Dream" Song in the credits which is basically "Sonic Team The Song" directed towards community with lyrics reflecting them stumbling again and again, never giving up and being EXTREMELY grateful to fans for never giving up on them.
@@orangeslash1667 nah. Rayman is a clear case of being "consumed" by their own creation. As you pointed out Ubisoft just focused on a more profitable options but it was "more profitable direction for these series" Assasin Creed - was born from Prince of Persia. Raving Rabbids - replaced Rayman. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - replaced in pipeline by Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. (kinda a rare case where it was supposed to become mainstream successor but instead predecessors came back with vengeance... Though nothing close to like they were in late 90s) After this happened - "revivals" of these series in 2010-2020s don't feel like New Main Series with all might of Ubisoft behind them... But more like sideprojects with more creative freedoms due to not being part of THE BIG PIPELINE that keeps churning out AC/Ghost Recon/Rabbids games one after another non-stop. Either that or Ubisoft tries to make another Live Service game... And this doesn't end well.
A big part of it is really bad release times for the origins/legends games. Origins came out just days after Skyrim. Legends would have been the one big game on the market during the Wiiu's launch but then it was delayed for a multiplat release...Competing with GTAV's release window. Pretty tragic
@@Ghostel3591I don't know. Modern technology has made game development significantly easier than it was for the team working on GTA 3.But yeah, time matters. It's just that, for as great as he is, he never gets enough success to be worth it. I mean, ugh, Rayman Origins didn't deserve only 50,000 sales. I really can't blame Ubisoft for not caring given how poorly he sells.
Grew up with Rayman and love him. Every game of his felt completely different. Rayman 1 is a colorful cartoon, Rayman 2 is dark and mysterious, Rayman 3 is satirical and whimsical.
The intro of Rayman And The Phantom Show contains 3 different Rayman leitmotifs Also i love Rayman in Captain Laserhawk. It's a fun momentary look into a world where Rayman was pulled from his happy-go-lucky world into a dystopian cyberpunk city, and how it effects him. It feels very in character despite his character developing VERY drastically.
Yknow its kinda goodin a way that ubisoft rarely touches rayman because it means they don't soil his legacy or series like they did with assassins creed or farcry.
@@orangeslash1667 Not at all. Rayman 3 was done without him. Also he left, because there were allegations against him. It was said that he was very aggressive abd toxic towards his coworkers. Not saying it's true or not, but he wasn't free of controversy as it seems.
10:03 Leave it to rayman to parkour from “silly hard 2d platformer” to “unsettling and depressing 3d platforming sadness” to “great goofy 3d platformer” within a decade
Growing up, the only rayman game i had was raving rabbids on the dsi, and i distinctly remember that even in my childhood days, i wanted to learn so much more about Rayman as a character and his world. Im glad he’s getting attention again, and i sincerely hope he gets a good game or something eventually. There’s so much i could say about this thingamajig, despite my only introduction to him being right as he was being phased out. Its like seeing an old friend again in a way
i love the rayman singing sexbomb this is keeping me alive, great video tho as a rayman enjoyer for years that shit was awesome, now lets wait 10 more years for a new game
I have always heard of Rayman but never got into it myself, however the thumbnail and title really intrigued me and oh my goodness this video has me hooked!! You are so underrated, your content is absolutely amazing! You have got a new sub!! ^^
Yeah man! Crash of the Titans was unironically my childhood! First ever Crash game, played the demo for hours on end, I loved that game as a kid!! It's so mid, but it holds a near and dear place in my heart
@@orangeslash1667 trust me, i know about LOTS of indie games. so many i think i would love but right now me and my family don't have the money for fun things like these (and also other personal reasons as well :()
@@orangeslash1667 mobile games aren't fun anymore for me, sorry. I've emulated some games, they were fun, but I'd rather wait for a console or a decent powerful laptop.
Tbf Rabbids Invasion had 4 seasons, a youtube short, and a netflix movie and lasted 2013-2022 so clearly someone was watching where watching (Me) Anyways this was a decent video man you earned a sub from me
DUDE! I saw you on Twitter talking about Ant Dude's recent Rabbids video. Thank you! I was worried I might've been a bit too harsh to the Rabbids, considering how attached I am to the Rayman franchise lol 😆
I loved rayman origins. I remember inviting my friend over to play the game. Since we were kids, the game was so hard for us so it took us months to finish the game 😅
Just binged through every video on this channel, love it! And also love to see the algorithm working and recommending me a great small RU-vidr, you got a new sub mate
I like that perspective that even though Rayman never interacted with Mario, the fact that the marketing and the DLC itself used Rayman as the main selling point was great and should be appreciated more.
You know you were young when you recognized Rayman Legend's music stage's songs from the game rather than from the actual original artists themselves. Recognizing "Black Betty" on the radio was the 2013 equivalent of seeing a Lamborghini and saying "Holy Cow it's a Zentorno from GTA Online"
(Sorry for the late response, but this jogged a memory) When I was younger, I was playing Castle Rock and I didn't know it was a cover of a real song. Then my dad walks in and starts singing the lyrics to Black Betty along with the level. I then played through the others and he actually knew all of them lol. It was a very fun and wholesome moment from my childhood
The quality of the vid, its pace, the commentary, it all gives u a vibe of a channel that atleast has tens of thousands of subs.. Keep it up man the sub count is definitely gonna jump in no time
The show was a pretty interesting concept of trying to remix Ubisoft’s properties into a shared universe. Rayman’s character is what got me to look more into his history.
This video was really good and I really enjoyed watching it, I haven't seen any of ur other videos, but I really like ur editing style and humor with this video. I'm a Rayman fan myself and hope he gets a new game in the future, hopefully by the Ubisoft Milan studio since they clearly know what they're doing with the character since sparks of hope dlc came out. If not then that's alright, just seeing him get acknowledged in a way that isn't just through mobile games and random game crossovers is refreshing to see, and I hope we get to see more like this in the future.
If I get into game development, I’m pretty much destined to work at Ubisoft. After all, I live WHERE Rayman was made. I even used to go to a place called Ubisoft World. I really hope that I’ll be able to work on some Rayman game.
I guess so, but come on! You just have to make a game with Rayman in it, and you'll be getting FREE money. And I'll be dammed if I have to work on Assassin's Creed 64 Plus.@@orangeslash1667
Thats so weird, i wanted a Rayman mario maker when i was a child (born in 2007, only played rayman origins and legendsz) but i never knew this thing was the original mario maker. Surprising.
I'm not sure if this was released internationally but I'm French and when I was a kid I played an educational game for first graders with the graphics of the first Rayman game. I have fond memories of it and it actually was my introduction to the character. This video was really good! Glad I've discovered your channel.
Fantastic video, really enjoyed it! Really happy that Rayman is getting more attention now, and if anything, this will pave the way for fans to do so many different things with him, like the fangames you mentioned! (working on one myself as well).
I couldn't disagree more about Legends being a major improvement, but they're both masterpieces regardless and any fan of 2D platformers owes it to themselves to play them.
Ohhh, yes! I remember that too! But why they took that game off? It would be cool to have it somehow on smartphone. I mean games on smartphone are not as good and nice as on consoles or PC, but still, why they took it off c_c
I was a fan of Rayman as a kid, and I knew those rabbids existed (beside never playing any of their game), but I never knew they came from Rayman in the beginning. This kinda proves your point to me
8:49 I actually got the chance to meet Billy West at a con about a month ago and had him sign my Rayman Yootooz figure. It was so cool! He says he still gets asked why he gave Rayman that accent to this day
i just wanna point out that Rayman raving rabbids / rabbids TV was a completely different experience for the DS and it was left out 😭 but i absolutely loved playing them again on my phone
I think with the next Rayman game they gotta market the heck out of it. Reveal it in a Nintendo Direct when everyone's watching and make it a big deal. The original Rayman Legends sold best on Wii U, iirc. Nintendo fans love wacky platformers, so to target it directly to them is a good idea. Of course, make it multi-platform, but if anyone is gonna understand how much potential Rayman has, it's Nintendo. All this Rayman stuff definitely makes it seem like he's gonna make a big return soon and I _really_ hope he does. Legends is actually the only Rayman game I've played, but I was super curious about Origins and Rayman 2 as a kid, and I really wanted to play them. And Legends was enough to hook me on the character, and I'll surely be supporting any of his games to come.
I'm surprised to learn that the shots of Rayman from the Netflix show was just fans making some weird cringy adult version of Rayman and it offended me. I love Rayman. I can't picture him being this way but to learn it's an actual Netflix show that he's in just baffled me.
Speaking of fangames, we're getting a recreation of the Rayman Raving Rabbids prototype which was going to be Rayman 4. It's called Rayman Raving Rabbids: Reburrowed.
The only Rayman game I had or played as a kid isn't mentioned in this video! It was an edutainment game called Rayman Brain Games (or Rayman Junior). It basically had the same gameplay as the first game, but you had to do math as well.
I'm just gonna say a thing: the worlds in Sparks of Hope are basically Rayman worlds. Sure you could make a mario game with these worlds without the rabbids and maybe it would work fine but these worlds to me feel like they were designed for Rayman. I've imagined an alternate timeline where Sparks of Hope was a new Rayman game with a balance of combat, platforming, and exploration.
The Rayman Origins/Legends team made the Prince of Persia The Lost Crown recently and, while it’s definitely a different game, it’s very well made and that team proved it still has talented developers. They should be allowed to reboot the franchise.
Imagine if they make Rayman Legends like GTA5 and when the next Nintendo console is announced they show that they're gonna port Rayman Legends AGAIN to PS5, Series X, and next Nintendo system.
Soliani - the Italian director behind that fantastic DLC - is a huge Rayman fan and said not even a year ago to IGN Italia, that he would love to make a new main-line entry to the series. The decision doesn't lie into his hands nor Ubi Milano though. The game needs to be greenlit by the higher ups first and (exactly like BG&E2) it might never happen now that Ancel left the studio. :/
Great video on an IP a lot of people are exremely passionate about Soliani will bring him back I have total trust in that rayman 4 is on the horizon I feel!
Just like how at some point in the early 2000s Kingdom Hearts Mickey Mouse was the newest version of Mickey Mouse we had. Drug fueled off the deepend shooter Rayman from Lazer Hawk is the newest version of rayman we have lmao
Damn, you love Rayman more than I do. There are WAY more Rayman games than I thought! I got started with the GameBoy Color version of the first game (which, having since played original version, is far better). It was just a random game that looked interesting enough to try. Then I played The Great Escape, and I fell in love with the IP. I've tried Hoodlum Havoc a couple times, but have never been able to get into it. Origins and Legends were great, I completely agree. I have so much ire about the Rabbids taking over Rayman. I feel the same about the Minions ruining Despicable Me. This was a fantastic video, thanks for sharing!
These 90s reviews really put in perspective how low we've fallen, when you consider the fact that one Cupman reviewer couldn't figure out how to jump over a platform in the tutorial while the instructions were being displayed on the screen
This franchise means the world to me ❤ I grew up with the original Rayman, and it shaped my whole life. Rayman 2 & 3 were spectacle experiences, while Origins and Legends were pure art. Rayman 1 & 2 take the crown to me personally. 2 because of it's world building and serious treatment of the plot. It had so much soul and heart. I miss this mysterious and magical tone. While the original Rayman had this unbeatable charm, and aesthetics. I love its crazy surreal world, and sorroundings. And do not worry - Rayman 4 will be back. The signs are too good! Ubisoft is mentioning or referencing him very often lately. The Laserhawk tv show will push for his meaning hard, and his role in "Sparks of Hope" just proves that Ubisoft is slowly preparing for his return.
Fully agree, but don't count on it. It's still a matter of profits for Ubisoft. Source: someone whose first game ever was Rayman 1995, and played all of them except Rabbids stuff, already waiting too long for a full-on Rayman 2/3 sequel. "See you in Rayman 4" echoes in my mind, dammit Murphy.
