I live in Huntingdon County and my friend from Jersey truly believes she saw Ray last summer while swimming at one of the islands below Hawns overlook. I told her it was probably a goose, haha. She said she was swimming from the island to the henderson hollow peninsula with her kids and she saw what looked like a dinosaur head (head approximately the size of a large dogs head) swimming towards them. She screamed for everyone to get out of the water. I've been swimming in this lake for over 30 years and have yet to encounter Ray. Although, Ive seen huge musky!

In the late 1970’s I worked with RK from Bellwood.,who was a member of a local sportsman association. RK claimed to have talked to a diver who was doing some sort of inspection at the Raystown dam. The diver told RK “ if you saw what I saw you wouldn’t want to swim there” . The diver said there is something really big in there that actually scared him. He told me the diver came up and refused to go back in the water. Sadly RK has since passed away so no further information is available but I hope this helps

Every lake in America has a story about about a diver, going down at the base of the dam and seeing a big fish or something that scared him and he refused to ever go back in. Seriously Lake has this same silly story. Sometimes it’s a giant catfish the size of a Volkswagen and for some reason, they always say the size of a Volkswagen. Sometimes it’s a giant musky or pike that was seven or 8 feet long. It’s just stories. The Juniata river, which they damned to create raystown lake was not a big enough river to hold a creature 30to 50 feet long without literally hundreds of people having photos and actual credible eyewitness accounts

Great video and detective work Scott!!!!! I actually side with you. It all adds up, and lines up with many of your past videos. I commented on a previous video, about my Dad telling me years ago about divers seeing huge pike/musky in the dam. They said supposedly 10 feet long. The water isn't always clear, who knows, maybe a snake. Keep up the Great Work, I appreciate all your hard work. By the way, my wife was on the edge of the sofa almost the whole time. She also said that you're a very intelligent man!!!

Here's a similar story, but it's already solved. Shows what small towns will do to get press and possible tourism. A few years ago, I was driving through northern Minnesota. Stopped at a restaurant in Crookston, MN for lunch and in the entryway was a life-sized Bigfoot. At the counter was a pamphlet telling a story of desperation😂. Back in the 70s, local businessmen gathered (over beers, I assume) and hatched a plan to put Crookston on the map. They got into the press a story of multiple Bigfoot sightings in the farm fields around Crookston. They tried to brand Crookston as the Bigfoot capital of the upper midwest. The funny thing was, as I read the pamphlet I remembered as a kid (late 70s), seeing the story about the Crookston Bigfoot on a tv show about investigating mysteries. The show was narrated by an actor with a dramatice voice. I dont remember the name of the show. Does anyone remember it? The lengths small town America will go to become famous and watch the money roll in.😂😂

@johnfitzgerald5158
@johnfitzgerald5158 5 месяцев назад
Scott, I thoroughly enjoyed your breakdown of the Raystown Ray story. I have another PA local legend for you. It would be cool if you looked into the "Cat Man" of "Cat Man's Lane." I believe the setting starts in the 60s - 70s timeframe in the LaFayette Hill, Miquon and Andorra area, just outside Philly city limits, near the Schuylkill River. There was a sort of lover's lane just off of Manor Rd. Other notable towns that the story emanates from are Conshohocken, Plymouth Meeting and Whitemarsh. While it is sort of a local legend, I believe it has some basis in reality...like a real, disturbed, semi-feral human being. Picture teenagers getting frisky on a pitch black lane while interrupted / assaulted by a being lurking in the dark who leaves their signature claw marks upon their victims. As teenagers, we talked about it, we would drive down Manor Rd slowly and act like our cars would stall to scare our occupants...lol. I even remember one of my highschool teachers discussing how they went out incognito with the police to try to lure the lurker out.
@ODDySEEy
@ODDySEEy 5 месяцев назад
Ok... so when I lived in Juniata (neighborhood in Philly) there was a story of the Catman going around. I knew there was a story about Catman of Conshohocken, and the Frankford Catman, and just so you know it IS in my list because further research took it back to the story of the Appalachian Catman in the Susquehanna Valley. That led me to the early 1800's Frankford Delaware Catman, not Frankford Philly, as some man who had cat features and was the caretaker of the Long Cemetery in Sussex County. I will move it up the list a bit so I can get to the root of that story and share it out.
@johnfitzgerald5158
@johnfitzgerald5158 5 месяцев назад
@ODDySEEy cool, thanks. It's interesting to hear there were more Catmans. The reason I mention Conshy and the other towns, (I am originally from Plymouth Mtg) is because I figured it might be better referenced to one of those towns. I'm pretty sure the precise spot of the attacks was a crappy lane cutting through the woods in a little no-mans land in the hills of the Schuylkill valley, off of Manor Rd, in an area I consider between the boundaries of Miquon and Andorra. It was chained off in my teens, but I managed to get my car under the chain one night and plowed through the overgrowth and vines. I ended up getting it stuck in a drop-off on the side of the road. My friends and I had to make the creepy trek out to a pay phone by light of a Zippo. I paid a pretty penny for the recovery...lol.

Thank you for doing the serious research needed to get some actual answers about this particular aquatic mystery. It's always a shame when a potentially spectacular undiscovered animal turns out to be nothing more than lies spewed by smirking creeps who enjoy defrauding and disrespecting the public. (I personally hope there's an especially bad corner of hell set aside just for hoaxers.) Originally I had speculated that Ray might be one of the (seemingly) many large aquatic reptiles (or mammals possibly?) that appear to swim the waters of the world, waiting to be acknowledged by science. I had imagined that a population could have found their way into that particular body of water through any number of routes, following the construction of the dam, and that there was no reason to assume such a thing to be an impossibility. Out on the west coast, where I live, we almost certainly have at least one species of huge aquatic reptile which is seen frequently in our rivers, lakes, and coastal waters, so why mightn't a similar animal have found it's way to Raystown? Sadly, if your research is as thorough and accurate as It seems to be, (and I have no reason to doubt that it is,) it would appear that Ray is not an undiscovered species at all. I am disappointed, but it it's good to know the truth. If you aren't looking for the truth in life you are wasting your time, I believe. All the best to you, and thanks again for the great work that you are doing! --N

Yep I got 3. Firstly I was told about 16 years ago about an incident that happened years before of a "rich" couple on a pontoon or houseboat where their poodle jumped or fell off the boat and as they were swinging around to retrieve it it just BLOOP disappeared, gone no trace. Not surprising tho cuz a BIG striper or catfish would defiantly swallow that whole. Second was divers inspecting or repairing the relief gates at the dam itself reported seeing...some kind of fish...at a length of around 8 feet. For the record I personally believe BOTH of these. Third I heard about either a shark or an aligator/crocodile idk some predator like that that an irresponsible owner couldn't take care of and so released into raystown but that it either only survived until the first winter or made it 2 or 3 years b4 it was never seen again. The whole loch Ness stuff is stupid though, this is an artificial lake, not a fjord or something connected to a sea that's been around for thousands or hundreds of thousands of years.

Used to go swimming near the current Entriken bridge at night at least once a week. We'd all don life jackets and jump off the boat with a floating cooler. We'd drink some beer and goof off. The last time we went a large let's say "fish" swam between my legs and I ended up kicking it with both legs while treading water. The fish immediately shot off and smacked into my friend Joe. He was, um well, quite under the effect of the bottle of JD he was enjoying. He screamed like a girl and to us it looked like he jumped out of the water and ran to the boat like a "Jesus lizard" I laughed and said it was a big carp looking for the snacks we were dropping in the lake. It felt like a carp, large scales, thin but it did feel rough maybe a sturgeon, but I doubt it . On the short boat ride to Shy Beaver Joe, mad at the harassment he was receiving for the shriek, attempted to jump off the boat to get his revenge on that "shit talking carp". So to this day we laugh about Raystown's shit talking carp and Joe has never again swam in deep water.

Be careful, those carp WILL eat you, just ask Publius Vedius Pollio. But that is a GREAT story. Fortunately the Muskie seem to stay either really deep or sun along the banks. Those boys would tear you apart.

It would be SPECTACULAR to actually see a GIANT snake swimming around the lake.

I don't know, the lyrics are catchy and accurately portray the history of what was recorded about Ray. LOL

The only thing I keep seeing for any form of a photo is what looks like a large shoal of schooling fish such as shad or herring. If you have no idea what anything in nature looks like it could look like something big in the water, but it’s just a school of baitfish.
@ODDySEEy
@ODDySEEy 5 месяцев назад
That is one of the things I go back to is the baitfish. April is stock season for the Lake Trout as well. BUT... the images with body OUT of water while IN the water are the compelling photos that lead me to "snake".

Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely to be a Sturgeon. Not only because they are endangered but as far as Pennsylvania is concerned, they are only found in Lake Erie with no direct or indirect route into Raystown.

Well that's a man-made lake made by the army engineer corp although after visiting raystown several times the lake is massive and there are massive fish down there there's probably stripers and muskie in that lake that are over 6 or 7 ft long but as to some sea monster and wouldn't have been in there very long It was an actual town not too long ago😂😂😂😂

Ummm... yeah. I am the person who has made the videos telling people about the history of this lake area on youtube. And if you actually watch the video instead of commenting on the title and thumbnail, you would realize nobody said anything about a sea monster in the lake.

People make fun of these so caalled fables but quess what soon your going to question yourself for thinking such a thought when a veil of secrecy becomes factual and not fiction at all! I'm sure there's something unusual in that lake that's probably similar to Loch Ness!!

I don't think you understand what gaslighting is . An unredacted April fools joke isn't gaslighting
@ODDySEEy
@ODDySEEy 5 месяцев назад
Gaslighting - When someone causes another to question their memory or perceptions. So, Beall straight forward attempted to place blame on the story of the Raystown Ray on an article written by the Huntingdon Daily News on April 1st in 2006. When indeed HE and the head of HuntCo Visitors Bureau coluded together to actuall draft the story and idea and bring it to the newspaper for print. Yup, he definitely gaslighted and I definitely understand what it means. Interestingly enough, for your to detract from me clearly stating that connection in the video and trying to change the reality into "an unredacted April fools joke", which I NEVER stated and NEVER alluded too as the bad part, makes your statement gaslighting. But, thanks for watching and thanks for commenting.
