"So, which one would be your pick? The Razer Blade 14 or the ROG G14? We are very sorry about the low overall volume. We will look into it for our next uploads!"
When you can get a 4080 G14 in the US and still have a few hundred bucks leftover versus a 4070 Blade, the decision becomes a bit more obvious. You have to REALLY want that Razer MacBook-esque aesthetic, otherwise the Razer just does not offer any good value. It’s a great laptop still, but just not justified. They should’ve done more with it. A 4080 G14 has more vram and way more performance, and then of course if you spend a little more in the US you get the 4090/Mini-LED model. I’d argue at that point there is no comparison. The display quality is so much better, it’s still a great chassis, it runs fairly cool and quiet for the power it holds, and not to mention the G14 in SILENT MODE performs way better than the Blade 14 in its performance mode at that point.
Hey Josh, what's your Silent score on Time Spy (Stock, no OV) ? With .10 BIOS it's like really bad, way, way behind Blade 14 Balanced. Even worse than Blade 14 Silent.
I.think its.hard to justify razer in the USA however they are similar prices in Europe so razer is a viable option g14 4080 is more expensive than.4070 blade in Europe and that's without miniLED also
@@tinybit780 yeah I made a post about this on the G14 subreddit. Just stay on or go back to bios 306 and enjoy insane performance in silent mode. Asus will likely fix it permanently in a later bios update, as it’s bugged on the Zephyrus M16 as well.
@@JoshCravesTech I'll try, Thank you. By the way: Comparing the two displays side by side, I have to say that the G14 Mini LED is not MUCH better (at least for me). The difference with the Blade 16 Mini LED was greater when I had it here, as it has twice as many dimming zones and up to 1100 nits. The brightness levels between the Blade 14 and the G14 are relatively similar. The Razer has a native contrast of 1300, which is better than the usual IPS panel. When it comes to OLED HDR content on YT, the G14 is only moderately better in my eyes, as it would have needed more brightness to make use of its dimming zones, thus allowing colors to pop out more compared to black. It's still great and is better, it just feels a little smaller than I expected. The Asus Nebula's IPS display is definitely worse because of the contrast being 950~. I remember comparing the Blade 16 (MIni-LED), G14 2023 (Mini-LED) and G14 2022 (IPS) at work with a colleague and the difference was very obvious & much better as you'd say. Of course, if you want to watch lots of HDR movies, I'd definetely advise to go with the G14 Mini-LED! To be honest, even if you have to pay 200 bucks more.
@@tinybit780 yeah in SDR with the Blade 16 and G14 right next to each other on my desk right now, they look about the same brightness. I think both are around 600 nits in SDR, or at least close to that. The dimming algorithm is pretty good on both. I actually see the dimming zones more on the Blade despite it having double. It’s a little more obvious or slower to dim I guess on the Blade. In HDR though the Blade definitely gets a bit brighter but the smaller screen on the G14 makes it appear a little brighter than what 600 nits normally looks like. It looks closer to like 800. The Blade definitely hits 1,100 and it’s blinding. However in content the deep blacks look great on both. Now throwing the Legion Pro 7i in there, which has about the same specs as the Blade 14 (100% sRGB, 500-600 nits), the difference is much more noticeable to me. The Legion’s colors are not nearly as vibrant and in HDR it’s not even close. The Legion and Blade 14 don’t have a wide enough color gamut for true HDR so it looks pretty washed out and dim in comparison. Also the G14 has the option of turning single-zone mode on for more accurate color reproduction and uniform brightness. I still don’t get why no one else has implemented this in their mini-LED displays. It’s a huge advantage for creators on the go or just casual web browsing.
the real difference is in raw power the G14 has 4080 or 4090 options but if you are comparing the G14 4070 or 4060 then the Razer wins on heat and fan noise emissions are better, also in Europe the G14 4060 is much cheaper than the Razer however the 4070 G14 is only slightly cheaper than the Razer not sure why
The only problem is that asus makes it very hard to buy their laptops. Either the specs you need are not available in your country, or they're in the wrong color. It's been like that since the beginning.
great! now finish the zenbook review 😁I have to decide if im keeping mine very soon, and I trust your opinions, even though I have the 4060 version here. Hurry! 😘
My only problems with the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 are : 1/ it is not some "universal" looking laptop, you cannot take it to a business meeting, etc. it is meant for gamers. The design is ... simply for gamers. Period. 2/ when you open the lid, the entire laptop gets "picked-up" which is something I really don't like (the reason is obvious, it allows more airflow from under the device to enhance cooling) but imagine you have many different things connected to the laptop body by different cables, like the power cable, USB-hub, HDMI to external monitor ... and all these are being picked-up everytime you open the lid (this routine will most definitely damage the ports very soon), besides, when opened, the laptop is quite unstable on the table and is moving all the time ... The pluses (compared to the Razer) are : you can choose better GPU, so for gamers, it will be better. But as for the rest, the Razer 14 (2023) is the absolute winner here. 1/ universal "apple-quality" look; 2/ great upgradeability; 3/ very stable on the table (compared to Asus); the minus (compared to Asus) is the price, but who cares? If you decide to buy a Macbook you also don't complain about the price, right? You want a Macbook, so you know it is going to be costly. It is the exclusivity and the quality without compromises you are getting. Razer is NOT exactly for "all gamers" or "just for gamers", it is for anyone who wants very powerful yet compact device, with excellent build quality and design, where the price is not the main turning point. You either want it and you are ready to pay the price, or you go and get Asus ROG.
Just a little feedforward, you should normalise your mic audio (0db). Thats around broadcast standard. I needed to turn my volume all the way to hear you properly)
It depends. For some use cases the Blade is preferable; for others the Zephyrus is preferable. Then again, in use cases where the Blade is preferable, a Zenbook/Zenbook Flip/Zenbook Pro is basically always even better, so there is no point in ever paying the Razer tax. Just pay the Zen tax instead if you ever feel the itch to pay tax.
Over the last 3-4 cycles these models were CLOSE but often there was a HUGE trade off. IE: one would only have a xx60 and 1080P screen options. While I find it comical at best that nobody is complaining about the mere 8GB of video RAM some of these models have the 14" form factor is my favorite - small enough to be truly portable but stuffed with enough CPU/GPU/Screen resolution that with the addition of a external power source you can do some serious gaming on one. While the pricing is surely UP on the 2023 models the still VERY effective 2022 models are still in stock and getting less expensive. :)
Both are out of my budget :P but if I had to pick, I always prefer hgher end parts at a lower wattage. So the G14 with 4080/4090 and quiet/Silet mode would be ideal. I still would prefer no dedicated GPU and do the heavy GPU work on a desktop, where I can pick the VRAM I want
I should have watched your video before buying the G14. In the US all Models besides the one with RTX 4090 got a IPS Display instead of Mini-LED. Because I am very sensitive to PWM I really hoped, that the Zephyrus would be the perfect laptop for me. Sadly all versions in Germany have Mini-LED. (does anybody knows, if the smallest one with the 7735H maybe has IPS instead of Mini-LED?) I really would have preferred it over the Blade. But now the Blade will arrive soon and hopefully will be good! Thank you for your comparison video!
I've tried both Blade 14 and Zephyrus G14 in the store, Blade 14 looks and feels like a premium notebook, almost like a MacBook, and Zephyrus G14 looks and feels like a plastic toy.
Atleast their form factor is like a block.... Most Pc nowadays has this stupid curve form factor to make the laptop look thinner and save cost. Fucking idiotic designer.
In Europe you can NOT get the G14 4080 for the same price as the 4070 Razer its about 300 Euro more for the G14 4080 WITHOUT the MiniLED screen option, in USA the G14 is much better value and cheaper than the Razer with the minLED as options for the 4080 also so they gets get much better options, no idea why..
Yeah, I should have clarified that. Asus’ pricing is all over the place and to understand which configurations are available where, you need a degree of some sort!
Yeah it's confusing, I'll be getting the razer as it's not as hot surface compared to the g14 and it performs better on balanced somehow, I will never run either on high or max performance too loud
Sorry if I'm confused by your comment, but in the U.S. the only model with a mini-LED screen is the 4090 configuration, which costs around $400 more than the Razer with a 4070.
@@lyteedge I just checked Amazon UK. The 4080 model has MiniLED but for some reason it's at 3,400 USD (USD 100 more expensive than the US 4090 at USD 3300). Odd pricing schemes.
Im sorry but in Europe the G14 only has the option of a MiniLED screen with the 4090 which costs 4K Euro + crazy money and not a fair comparison to a Razer 14 which is 3,300 Euro for the 4070 obviously there is also no 4080 or 4090 option anyway on the Razer
Are the 8gb of VRAM for the 4070 with 1600p gaming in the blade not a concern? Obviously the G14 4070 also only has 8gb but I have the option to go to the 4080 with 12gb on the G14 which should be enough for 1600p gaming for the foreseeable future.
I honestly think it’s not as bad as some launches made it look like (the last of us, Hogwarts, Star Wars..) but the 4080 is definitely the safer bet, for sure!
Tried both (And MANY more as I have a tech shop) and I will give you the short answer: - If you find the razer at the same price or AT MAXIMUM 100 dollars more of the Rog, pick the Razer - Otherwise, pick the Rog In both cases, i swear you won't be disappointed. And always look for deals in the used market, believe me, Gaming Notebook are insane in the used market.
In Korea, there is no 4090 model and mini led at all. It would be great to have a 4080 with mini led but i guess it's not happening. great video by the way, it helps alot.
I hope to see a review of the 4070 Acer Triton 14 with the Mini-LED Screen. It is $1200 cheaper than the mini-LED 4090 Asus G14. I love the G14 and the screen, but $3200 is steep....
Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 5i is on sale now at USD1250 (RTX 4060, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 240 Hz QHD IPS Display). Is it a better buy over ROG Zephyrus G14 2023 (16GB RAM, RTX 4060, 512GB SSD) at the same price ?
These are two very different machines. If you want something that has a numpad, a bigger screen and all the IO you can wish for, get the Legion. If you value portability, get the G14.
What were the power profiles when running the battery test? Also, I cannot understand how a Razer is "stealthy" with that bright neon green logo. It looks super gamer-y aka tacky.
Have you checked our written review? In the battery section you can find all the details about our results: www.notebookcheck.net/Razer-Blade-14-Zen-4-laptop-review-Lots-of-changes-that-matter.725419.0.html I think apart from the logo it does look pretty clean, but yeah I wish they would go back to the logo from the Razer Book they had a few years ago!
Hey Notebookcheck, you say there's no custom calibrated profile. However, many reviews say otherwise and I can confirm this. I have a calibrated Blade profile and my screen is quite accurate already. Razer also promises a factory calibrated profile on their official sources. A few quotes from other reviewers: "The superlatives didn’t end there, though; the Blade 14 covered 114.3 percent of the DCI-P3 color space and 161 percent of sRGB. The Blade 16 was the next-closest competitor, but its colorimeter results fell well short of its smaller sibling at 93.7 and 132 percent, respectively" Toms Hardware " It also has an anti-glare treatment, and the panel’s color is factory-calibrated. Our tests using DisplayCal revealed that Razer has delivered on its promises. The panel features a strong maximum brightness of 542 cd/m² and a DCI P3 color space coverage of 103.9%, with 146.6% sRGB space coverage. The average Delta E00 is 1.87"
Interesting! Both of our samples came without calibrated profiles (one in the US and one over here in Germany) I will see what I can find out about that, but it’s good to know that even users who do not have access to calibration equipment can enjoy the stellar display! Thanks for the heads-up! You
@@NotebookcheckReviews Your battery runtime may be wrong, too. According to your website this was measured with "dedicated GPU" because there is "no Optimus". However, you were able to switch to Optimus in BIOS at this time. And now it's a new option in Synapse after the latest software update.
Interesting. What's your views on Matthew Moniz when he reviewed the G14 2023. He claimed to have got 12 hours with his 4090 one. You seem to have alot less battery life. How come?
Yeah I saw that too, but I do not know how he got his numbers. We simulate web surfing with a looped script with different kinds of content at 150 Nits display brightness. Maybe he tested idle runtimes?
I have both and will probably keep the Blade :) The G14 unfortunately has a much hotter surface, even on lighter tasks. That's annoying, especially in the summer. The chassis is clearly better on the Blade 14 to me, high quality material and I love the unibody. G14 on the keyboard deck sometimes feels a bit like touching a sandpaper, not so smooth if you know what I mean; otherwise it’s very soIid and in the upper league of gaming laptops, just not as good Razer. i really used them a lot and this aspect is quite important to me, so I’m not missing the MacBook too much 😀 The G14 4080 is going to my girlfriend or I'll sell it. Display and performance are of course better on the G14 BUT Asus keeps the G14 around 70-85W (GPU) on performance while the Blade pulls 90-100W on the GPU even on silent and balanced. This is the sweet spot for 4070. So the gap in some situations is smaller than you might think. Turbo on the G14 is simply too hot and noisy.
A 70-85w 4080 should still perform better than a 90-100w 4070. But I agree the Blades do have a good balanced/silent mode. My 4090 G14 in silent mode performs quite a bit better than a max-powered 140w 4070 though so that’s something to consider. Also does the Blade get hot in your lap? I have a Blade 16 as well and it’s very uncomfortable to use as an actual casual laptop due to the heat from the aluminum body.
Extra cost aside the razer is a no brainer. Actually nice and sturdy chassis, and doesn’t sound like a jet engine. I could never bring myself to spend $2000-$3,500 on a plastic laptop
I've tried a number of laptops this year and briefly had a G14 with a 4080- I didn't find the performance all that impressive compared to models with a 4060 and 4070. For me, the Blade 14 has offered the best overall gaming performance and sounds the quietest.
if you want to get premium laptop from the build and strong i think we go to the razer, oth the asus is valued with the money which comes in lower cost
You can find them in detail in our full G14 review: Bleeding edge compromise with Zen4 and RTX 4000 - Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Review ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0w42kGVEJ70.html
Your video audio is too low. The moment an add pops up, it blasts my speakers. Next time while editing make sure ur hitting the red line on your preferred editing software.
Asus Wins it for me because of the MiniLED Screen and the dGPU going upto RTX 4090. I don't need 64GB RAM. 32GB is plenty for me. In both cases this is really a win for AMD.
Asus is much better in quality and price. Razer is a relative new brand with excellent products. But Dolby Atmos (Asus) is better than THX SPATIAL AUDIO (Razer) for my personal music taste. Both are good and very similar (better Refresh Rate in Razer). My choice is ASUS because I love the white and magnesium case.
Egads man - if your going to make a video make sure your speaker/presenter is mic'ed so that PEOPLE CAN HEAR what they are saying!!! I attempted to watch this with the volume turned ALL THE WAY UP and still could barely understand what he was saying MOST of the time. I finally gave up. Much easier/quicker to have a WRITTEN review so folks can simply READ (or skim over) what you are trying to say.
While we acknowledge that the volume was a little low for this one, I tested it at a TV with a soundbar, two phones, headphones and a pair of laptops and I was easily able to understand at higher volumes. We are not perfect and are terribly sorry for this, but I think every now and then we deserve a little leeway ;) Our written reviews are linked in the caption tho, if you prefer to check out those!
Asus all the way. Razer is way too expensive. g14 with rtx 4060 can be had for 2100 euros while razer is 2800. and I think the g14 is already too much, but the price of the razer is just shameless. physically seems to be a bit more premium but that's the only attraction. A legion 7 with 4080 can be had for the price of a 4060 razer which is just ridiculous.
Haha the main problem of RB14 this year is that the $2800 is already M2 Max level price, while the 4070 didn't beat the hardware performance (3D Wildlife) of M2 Max. It should at least bring Mercury version down to 4060+16GB RAM.
Yes, how can you mess up something as incredibly basic as your audio level and then have the temerity to actually post the thing anyway with only a lame excuse for justification? It's 2023, not 1987, the dawn of the interwebs. And you expect us to take seriously your comments on sophisticated laptops when you can't even get this right?
Definitely the G14 with a 4080 or 4090. We edit our videos with Resolve 18, and it loves VRAM. Other programs might be different, tho, and it might also depend on the footage you are working with! The G14 is also much more flexible regarding its display colour profiles since Asus gives you an sRGB Profile, which is very handy for grading footage when out and about!
