I don't understand why Razer can't simply release a Viper Mini with updated internals and slight weight reduction for $59 and $79 wired/wireless. Literally no one asked for the cobra.
so they can bundled the thing you really want like a wireless Viper mini with a lot of stuff that you don't need like wireless charging, all around RGB etc to have a higher price i think it is all just a business move to push loyal fans of the Viper mini on to a more expansive product and only release the good stuff that have actual mass market potential after the sell slow down, this is a classic move and companies do this all the time for well like product. so my guess is that sometime in the future razer will give us a wireless cobra that don't have all the fancy stuff for a lot cheaper
Bcz they want to charge more, and the initial impression of mini line is budget mouse, so they have to make a new one since logically speaking, it's a different lineup even if it's exactly the same so they can over chr0arge people
@@profosist true but they came to Reddit saying the viper mini products will please the niche market as well as the mainstream. They managed to displease the niche market and in time we'll see if they didn't do so well with the mainstream market (I doubt they will)
@@flashjor98 I'd say in their eyes the signature pleases the niches market. There's also quite a number of people that this exact mouse is perfect for. Ofter is people that game but do more with their PC than just game.
I'm glad all outlets are in agreement, this was a huge miss! This release alienates the core fan base of the Mini by overcasualizing the iconic shape. Too much fluff and weight for it's size, for a 2023 release. And the funny thing is they could have made a true V2 Pro with less 'features' and the same price and made more $ per unit 💀
When i saw that people really want light mouse, i used to think that they are overreacting. Then i thought that maybe i have a light mouse, thats why i dont know what are the problems faced by heavy mouse users. Then i checked the weight of my $3 mouse...and guess what!! ...it was 120gm 😁😁 What i thought was a light mouse actually was a pretty heavy one, and i am totally comfortable with it and play fps games easily with it.
During the release of the Viper Mini SE, Razer reps specifically answered "summer" when asked "When will we get a standard Viper Mini Wireless". They've gone back to being stupid.
Cheers for this video, razer doing this is just a typical profit taking move. Wanting to upsell some rgb bloated garbage.... Personally I love the viper mini (wired), got two of them, one for the benchmark setup and one for main editing rig. The snap master's mouse of choice. Might have to head down my local electronics store and stock up on them lol, the new cobra going to be double the price me thinks.
I'm also using a viper mini. My hands are small, so it is the perfect fit. Also the extra RGB and a really affordable price (like $25 in my country) made it an absolute killer deal.
I have used a lot of different mouse over the years and Viper Mini is the only one which I loved. It fits perfectly in my hand and felt really great not just gaming but in general use too. I just want a simple wireless version without any fluff.
razer basilisk, my favorite mouse, its cheaper then then the viper (at least here it is) the wired and the wireless version is great, the wireless one no frills just a great mouse that fits ,y hand great and replaceable that lasts for ages
@@peteg1696it’s a completely different shape and weighs a ton more…. Yeah it’s cheap and reliable but is not what we were asking for :( small symmetrical lightweight mouse with the great razor sensor and switches
I found lamzu atlantis mini to have a very similar shape, but it fits my 18.5x9.5 hand even better. It has holes on the bottom and it’s not as advanced in terms of tech as Viper V2 Pro, but the shape is just amazing and it weighs pretty much the same as Viper Mini SE. I think anyone who wants a wireless Viper Mini should consider Atlantis Mini
I love my viper mini so much, I managed to actually find people who were making custom pcbs and modifying the base so that it would work with Logitech sensors, in order to make a WIRELESS VIPER MINI. Its at a point where some random etsy store has made a better product than razers own implementation…
i've had my first gen viper mini since release and its missing the left mouse click cover. im using the middle tiny button above the scroll wheel as my left click please help. i need to find a better mouse that has a mini form factor because i have small hands and autism makes it hard for me to handle bigger mice thank u
Its very simple, if they just continue the mini line, since its a budget mouse, they cant really charge high price for the wireless version, mos5 they can do is probably 80 to 90 dollars since its basically the same design, but with a new name, they can just claim its a new series and charge 120 to 150 dollars or even more for limited edition
interesting insight on the charging dock statistic. I think Razer shld make a performance focus line with wireless charging, noRGB. Make it 60-69g. Boom win win
Can't have that there is reason why the pro versions of the Death Adder and Viper are stripped down as far as they are. Also there are people out there that want more buttons features and heck even RGB it's two different markets razer is one of the few brands that plays both at the high end.
i think it might have been because they couldn’t find a right price for the viper mini wireless, if they charged it at like 80 bucks with the same spec and connectivity as the v2 pro maybe the pro would sell and everyone would buy mini, but if they charged like 120-140 people would complain that the reason why the original mini was good because of the price and now it’s too expensive. i think they should’ve launched the mini wireless at 100
Long story short, I've used Viper Mini for 1.5 years. Sold it, prices went up. I recently wanted to buy one as I miss it so much. I was performing with the Viper Mini the best in Valorant (immo 3). Now, it's discountinued and I've felt so sad that I couldn't buy one anywhere and there it was, one store in the whole country with 3 pieces. I immediately went and picked one up. I may regret to not pick up two actually. As I've tried the Cobra (wired) and it's AWFUL. They did kill the Viper Mini. ALL THE COMMUNITY wanted a WIRELESS VIPER MINI. Then Razer comes and say, nah... We don't want that. Well, let's see who is going to end the upcoming years with worse profit than before. DAV3 / DAV3 Pro is also a failure, nobody buys it, and those who buy it sells it. Pros are turning away from them as well. The Cobra is a failure too. You had one HUUUUGE chance Razer.. You blew it.
Dafuq the DV3 is amazing and alot of people love it ? Also which pros return it ? So far in Valorant many play it xD I want the Viper mini wireless as well but don't talk nonsense about the DV3 pls
Cobra wired is a direct upgrade to the Viper mini wired. LOD is fixed, Synapse doesn't try to install when you plug it in, and LED changes are saved to onboard memory. For those who wanted the wireless though... my condolences.
@Vittra0 can we add weight? Both the Viper mini and deathadder mini are too light for me, the Logitech G305 is fine in weight with lithium but oddly shaped (for me anyways). Still looking for that "perfect mouse" for me 😔
I have the Cobra wired and LED changes are NOT saved to internal memory. Maybe that's the case on the PRO wireless version. When I close synapse it reverts to the default RGB pattern.
@@Omarock I was referring to the wired Cobra version specifically. I was able to save LED changes and get rid of Synapse. Not sure why that wouldn't be the case for you, but that's a huge cause for concern if it's inconsistent like this.
Great content as always Dimitri. I was never a fan of Razer products but was won over by the viper V2 pro and it's been my main now for months. Looks like their high price tactics and unwanted products are back and that really puts me off future releases.
Very disappointed to not see a true wireless successor. I did however get the Cobra wired. Better switches, LOD is fixed, Cable feels less stiff. I feel the $40 is fine but wish they did more. I wouldn’t mind paying $50 if they upgraded the sensor but then again i didn’t have issues with the original Viper Mini other than the LOD.
All they had to do is make two versions of some popular shapes: Pro for low weight, no dock, no rgb. And Ultimate for medium weight, dock support and lots of RGB. Another odd thing is that Cobra/Viper mini shape is definitely loved by performance focused players, so it’s a big miss. What would make more sense is to make Viper V2 Ultimate, with basically all the features of Cobra Pro, but it would also cause no backlash, since performance focused players already have an option to get Viper V2 Pro if they like that shape.
Whoever made the decision at the top of the chain really missed out on a hell of a lot of $$$ with this one and also betrayed the trust of not only the public but some representatives who made the promises in r/mousereview
and the Viper V3 pro is nonsense aswell, they preferred to put in a bigger battery for people playing 4000 or more polling rates instead of working that weight a bit more. Literally none plays 2K+ polling rates. I'm fine with the actual viper shape but I do also feel like i'd gain a bit more accuracy (especially for small movements) with the mini shape, i'm equally disapointed by the Cobra which is too heavy for today's standards. About the Mini SE, why do they want to work magnesium so badly? I'm sure it'd be cheaper for them to try carbon based materials like graphene
I loved the viper mini for those few months before it started double-clicking (yes, just a few months - my old logitech g303 started to double-click after 6 years of playing every day for a few hours).
Although I won't choose small mouse at all, the cobra reminds me few years ago what razer is doing, that is focus on rgb and some fancy stuff but not the performance, but logitech instead focus on the raw performance of the mouse, they just change back to what they used to....... I am a big fan of razer, but if they are going to this direction, it won't be good for them in long term:(
But people don't seem to understand is they have always been doing both things that was essentially the Ultimate line was the Chroma line and now the pro line for the Basilisk and Naga.
@@profosistno we all know that. but now they've taken a very popular mouse in the performance sector and remade it into a casualized rgb version. this is the main thing people dislike about the cobra and also is directly addressed in the video
@@profosist it was popular mouse for aim scenarios mostly because it was the best really cheap option for them and if you wanted a technical confirmation, a razer employee cleared up on discord that the viper and deathadder lines are made with competitive intent while the basilisk and naga (and now cobra) are made for the more mainstream audience
I’m shocked and surprised that they didn’t increase the price of the wired Cobra. I would have thought that would have been reason number 1 for this change.
i'm watching this video as my viper mini's left click stopped working. i want to purchase the same mouse again but viper mini is out of stock. should i go for cobra or look for some other mouse?
Just ordered a Viper mini only 2 in stock when I looked on Amazon, I was waiting for a "better" Viper Mini generation but it seems that wont be happening
I think the reasoning behind Razer creating the Cobra product line instead of renaming to Viper Mini V2 pro or whatever was the introduction of the Viper V3 Hyperspeed. The V3 clearly is done with the form factor that the Viper Ultimate or the Viper V2 Pro has, and is trying to mimic the Logitech G Pro X form factor (since the superlight version saw better sales than the V2 Pro). So now, since the Viper line is going to a more GPX-like form factor from now on, Razer is mantaining the old Viper form factor through the Cobra line. It makes sense when you look at it this way.
They still use a tactile switch for middle button. No wonder many of us have problems after months of use. Many cheap mice use proper switches for the 3 main buttons, but Razer decided to save up on that. Or maybe planned obsolescence.
Hey man! I may be one year late but, Thanks for the thoughts! Never had the Viper Mini. My first experience was with the Cobra wired, like 5 monhts ago, so it was a new mouse for me. Coming from Basilisk V3 that is. My Cobra just got replaced a few days go, as the first one started randomly disconnecting all of the sudden. This is a bit worrisome. Yet i love everything about it. The shape, the weight, the buttons.. It's a joy really, whatever it's called: Cobra, Viper or Lachesis ^^. Just hope i wont have to replace units every 6 months or so.. Thanks again ! 😘
I have a theory that the reason razer made the Cobra the way that it is, is because their Viper Mini SE would not sell as well if they released a lightweight plastic version of the viper mini because most ppl would just buy the plastic version. So they are in a way forcing ppl to buy viper mini SE because it's the only lightweight wireless viper mini that exists. I hope I'm wrong.
Not necessarily related to Razer (I don't think they have ever attempted a genuine non-"e-sports" mouse in their existence), but I'm still waiting for someone to make a hefty, solidly built mouse without a billion holes punctured into it. I've got a Corsair Ironclaw, and whilst it's alright feature-wise, it's still designed for smaller hands; if I want to lay my hand flat on the mouse, two fingers (not counting my thumb) overhang the sides, meaning I either perpetually claw grip the mouse, or have to hover my pinky and other finger in the air awkwardly. Not to mention that the rubber grip just completely evaporated under those conditions. I wish the mouse industry would just throw me one bone that isn't the damn MadCatz thing that looks like someone glued plastic panels and knobs to a roll cage. Just, one good, big mouse, made of materials that would last more than a blink, that I can palm comfortably. Yet, the more mouse videos I see across the tech space, it seems like people won't be satisfied until they get 1 gram mice made of magnesium fly mesh with 7 trillion dpi, that's Bluetooth exclusively. Keyboards figured it out, how hard is it for mice to catch up?
One thing Razer REALLY needs to work on, is a new scroll wheel tech. Both my Tartarus V2 & my Basilisk V2 have scroll wheels that not scroll radically up and down when going one direction. :( And yes, what Razer is up to here with these mice is very weird. Too many different models. So many of their keyboards and mice look so similar!
You say Razer hasn't done this before but they have. The Mamba was the more feature rich wireless version of the Deathadder. Also normally any shape changes were tried on the Mamba first since it was more niche and would upset less of the market. Everyone also says it's the same. The shape might be similar but the ergonomics and angles are different and different than the Viper. I think things like the more flat sides better suit the smaller shape. Pro vs Chroma is what it used to be. Then they had the cheap wireless with the X hyperspeed. Even lower than that was old versions of mi e with the essential line.
This must be Dimitri’s personal choice in mice because I don’t remember hearing much when Logitech changed the g502 completely by taking away the whole weighted thing
Guys, I work at some random retail shop that sells peripherals in Balkan countries, the Deathadder V2 X Hyperspeed (at retail) is priced at 70 euros, but the REAL price, before 21% tax and other things is 25 euros. Just so you know, before you buy anything anymore xD
unpopular opinion: i kinda agree with razer. Like i get most fans wanted a viper mini pro, but wouldnt that be too much? the viper line is already big enough. I really do understand what the team at razer were thinking. another complaint people also have is the weight but i bet if a viper mini pro was released it would be the same as the cobra anyway. The cobra line may as well be a mini viper line where its basicly the viper but yk mini. If im being honest I just want a cobra x hyperspeed that w9uld be insane especially with how increadible the basilisk v3 x hyperspeed is.
The crazy part is on amazon the viper mini has 21k reveiws with a 4.7 star ratting compared with the viper v2 pro with 2k reveiws with a 4.2 star rating. I don't understand why they think people dont want a true viper mini witeless.
I purchased both Cooler Master MM-710/720 during Amazon prime sales this past week for the EXACT same reasons you stated. Am enjoying both mice tremendously. Razer be like ok, we got good products by listening now let's just doing own thing - instant failure.
My only issues with the Viper Mini was the shit lift-off distance and the lack of wireless. I tried the Orochi V2, and while I loved the shape, it was a bit too heavy and not rechargeable. The Pulsar X2 Mini ended up as my main, but I still feel like it's a bit too wide compared to the shape of the Viper. It's a shame...
I don't have an issue with them offering something heavier with a bunch of rgb. I'm sure a bunch of best buy execs said they needed something gamer-y to sell to parents buying something for their kids. The issue I have is that Razer promised a viper mini pro and thought that this would fill that need. I was ready to make an unnecessary purchase if they had a reasonably priced viper mini pro (~200 cad) but there's no way I'm spending $400 cad on a viper mini se.
Just an editing note I wanted to point out. It looks like you blurred your squad in Battlefield 1, I assume for privacy reasons, but didn't blur the chat in the upper left so when one of your squad mates requested ammo, you can clearly see the name. Not sure if it's that big of a deal, but figured if you blurred the whole squad, you probably would've also wanted the chat blurred. Specifically referencing 8:28
1:39 All are made for folks with small hands. I will stick with my Corsair Glaive RGB,still a bit small, but great overall. I still use a Razer rgb KB,but stopped buying its products around 2019 as the GREED became overwhelming,to put it mildly. Our host has Carpel Tunnel. I had it from gaming around 2004(Morrowind) had a arm and hand glove and still had to stop PC Gaming for 2 years !
As a Razer Orochi V2 owner, I'm disappointed by its bluetooth performance with Macs. On windows via USB Receiver it's flawless, but Bluetooth on Mac it's literally unplayable for gaming due to judder and lag.
What I don't get is why not just have the Cobra just be "Viper products but with extra bells and whistles" as the up-sell product, and keep the Viper line as the entry-level performance stuff to cultivate and grow their customer base? Like, there's no reason Razer couldn't have both the Viper and Cobra as part of the same family of products for different price points and features - they wouldn't even need to retool their factories if they literally have Cobras as bling'd up Vipers with things like more RGB, adjustable weights, maybe better sensors or switches, etc.
The charging dock and extra RGB look nice for Doom and Diablo and casual stuff tbh. I think those features are enough to justify giving the Cobra Pro it's name, but the wired Cobra should've just been called the Viper Mini V2. As for splitting products into immersive / performance lines, I think maybe shopping for them would be more straightforward if the performance lines were done by a "spin off" company - sort of like how Lian Li has SSUPD.
I don’t have any problems with the cobra pro, the shape feels pretty much like a viper mini. Yes its 77g but it doesn’t make or break the mouse, anything over 95g I can probably consider heavy
At this point I hope Razer is just confused. If they're very sure what they want to do, this is probably pretty bad. If they're confused at what people want (which they should because people want very different things) it's fine and well, things can still be fixed.
Really happy I managed to pick up a viper mini a few months ago. Very happy with it. The cobra pro is weighed down though. Disappointed by that. Glad I saw your video. I was v confused by the cobra line.
Honestly I’ve always been a fan of the Naga trinity because of the interchangeable thumb button pads. Reading up on it the naga trinity seems to have tons of reviews where it start double click after only 3 months which is exactly what happened to me. I wish them made that mouse but as a mini and got the double clicking sorted out.
Razer fd me over on a poor release on the signature viper, favouring bots and ebay reselling. After being a faithful costumer I decided to move on and suggest everyone looks elsewhere for their peripherals
I've been planning to buy the viper mini new edition for a long time. But now I think I will put my focus on the coming finalmouse ultralightX. Good bye Razer.
My issue is that they should call it Cobra Ultimate (Ultimate = wireless + most RGB, Pro = No RGB, Pro Ultimate = No RGB + wireless). Viper Mini Ultimate is what people wanted. The Viper is an awesome mouse for FPS's and a smaller version would be more comfortable for my hands, so I get it.
They have not released any more white/mercury keyboards either after huntsman mini. It is excellent but years later, I still have sticky keys (software) issue
I have been waiting so long for a updated orochi mouse, an upgrade from the v2 and hopefully with the new focus pro pixart sensor and usb c charging instead of batteries
I feel like they released this because the mini signature didn’t sell well, so they are like “hey, either you buy this, or the mini signature”, kinda scummy imo
Looking for a new mouse, got a Viper Mini and would like something similar, braided cable, small and lightweight. I was looking for the Cobra, but I heard it's like the mini but cheaper in terms of quality any suggestions for me ? The scroll wheel is horrible, clicking and scrolling, annoying sound while scrolling and the click is hard and not constant.
Naming it pro when it should have been named ultimate drastically reduces the chances of getting a no frills pro model like the viper v2 pro. So it looks like there will only be 2 versions of the cobra but not a huge biggie since a lot more mice with just as good performance are right around the corner, Razer took their lead in the peripheral market and are pulling an intel and resting on their laurels.
razer was getting a lot of praise for the death adder v3 and viper mini, probably made them feel out of their element not being used to that so they had to go back to their roots with this one
Lets be real. The whole thing can be summed up in seconds. Its too heavy and its too expensive. Its heavier and costs more than the RVU with dock right now and that has extra side buttons for left handed people.
i love the shape and weight of the vipe mini but my side buttons double click and my scroll wheel is scuffed this happened first month i got it. this also happened to 5 other razer mouses i got before. this happens to almost every mouse i ever got no matter what company it's from. if only reviewers like this channel and ltt started complaining about these companies like damn how is this still not a strong topic big channels talk about? we live in a capitalist society who cares what they price it it's their choice and as a consumer we should complain about things that matter and not about the financial decisions these companies make. we have competition for those price brackets.
idk, considering the success of the viper mini it makes sense to separate the model. short term it doesn't make sense but long term it's for the better since the names will just get more and more obnoxious and confusing as the updates come
I, like many others, fell in love with the Viper Mini shape when we got our hands on it. Optical switches and low weight (compared to GPX at the time). For the price, you couldn't beat it. So sad they went this route. We were patiently waiting. I have bought 3 copies in total and was looking forward to the wireless release, which never came. Swapped to Lamzu (Atlantis Mini). Never looked back.
Wired Cobra is pretty good in my opinion and it's basically a direct upgrade of the Viper Mini. On the other hand I think that the pro variant is too expensive for what it is.
I'm getting one through their RMA (return merchandise authorization) I had to send photos of me cutting the wire and proof of purchase whilst still in warranty 2years.
Razer been making some weird choices recently. Been a long time Razer customer but might be jumping ship soon as not liking the design and quality of recent releases especially considering the prices.
it really makes sense. All they want is more money. Greed is what keeps them running. Good thing we have other mice from China brands and those are really stepping up nowadays.
Viper mini lasted me for 3 years , I am happy was expecting something similar with upgrade I am not complaining about cobra(the wired one) but I don't dig the new design
