I agree, i own 3 fatboys (one nos) and 3 slims (one also nos) and although i like more how the Fatboy looks, i also think the slim shaves a bit better.

. You restored my Slim (K2), in rhodium, for me years ago. I thought you would tell me it was destroyed but you made it look mint. I use it frequently and always get wonderful shaves with it. Thanks again for the excellent restore!

I was at a yard sale and I asked as I always do if she had any old time safety razors. The lady went to look and came back with a Gilette Slim Adjustable. I tried to pay her for it but it was so grody she gave it to me. I brought it home andcleaned it up. Now it's the best shaver I've got. I've really learned alot from your videos. Thanks alot. I got mine on eBay for about $23, coded H-1. It still works perfectly, and gives a very close and smooth shave. And I can dial up or down the aggressiveness of the blade angle. I respect collectors who leave these in the package, but I use mine daily.

I was born in 1967 , my dad always used Gillette had a few of them and took the blade out of one used to put shaving cream on me and teach me how to shave probably around 1971 I was four or five I would look forward to that every morning .....

i've bought a revamped slim adjustable, it made it through the customs last week and since then i use it daily: no cuts, no itches, perfect shave, far better than the Mühle razor i own. Impressive engineering of Gillette and craftsmanship of Razor Emporium. Thank you.

A 1963 slim adjustable is my go to razor. I default to it as a rule. It is more flexible than my tech, and tends not to collect hair between the blade and the plate, as the tech does. I have not yet found a blade that doesn't work well in the slim adjustable. I don't have a fat boy to compare to... yet.

Also, in the commercial did you notice the hand off. One guy finishes his shave and the other guy steps up grabs the razor quick swirl in fresh water and off he goes. No blade change even.

Hi Matt, great video as always. I own a 1967 slim. I got it recently from a UK shaving shop (Executive Shaving). They had got it restored and re-plated and it is like new. I absolutely love the slim, gives me some great shaves and I feel its a razor I could use blindfolded, its fantastic.

when i was growing up i watched my father shave with a slim adjustable he also had a gillette super speed plated tip that he used. he taught me how to shave on the super speed which was my first shave ever. I have recently come back to wet shaving. I am six months back into it and purchased a slim adjustable which is my every day shave. I love the razor and it brings back memories of the 60s to me.

Thanks for a great walk down memory lane! I love my second (relatively new) “slim” more than the first one that I used as a novice shaver in the 1960s. In that 50 year interlude, I succumbed to Gillette’s cartridge razor marketing and then used an electric razor for awhile to cut replacement cartridge costs. Shaving was a chore and seldom satisfying. The renaissance of “traditional” wet shaving - with so many soaps, creams, splashes, balms, etc - was welcome news indeed. Shaving is now a very pleasurable way to start the day. Wanting to try an adjustable razor, I picked up my second “slim” last March per your generous suggestion when I sought your advice. I love it and can’t remember the last time I used any of my other three razors. Thank you for touting the virtues of such vintage razors as the Gillette “slim.”

Paul: Same exact situation with me. Started with the Slim along with the straight razor and strop in the 60s….then the Trac II and Mach 3 until just recently. I bought a King C. Gillette to get DE started again…along with the rest of the gear…brush, bowl, shaving cream, etc. I wanted an adjustable and researched brands…Merkur, Rockwell, Parker, etc……and then I started reading about the old Gillette Slim from the 60s. In conclusion, I bought one on eBay and am awaiting delivery. My original cost $2. This one cost me $60. That’s inflation for you. Like you…I’m back to enjoying OLD TIME SHAVING. I always used my late father's 1966 Slim Adjustable that he got while he was in the Army or Navy. It's in rough shape, but still works. For years I have been looking for another one, so I could retire it, like I did his 1964 slim flare tip that was the same year, but never found one. Today I was in an Antique store and saw a Slim Adjustable and picked it up for $16. It's from 1964 and looks in great shape and it works. It's a 1964 J1.

My 1962 Gillette Slim Adjustable is my go-to razor most of the time. It's easy to maneuver under my nose and the jawline under my ear lobes. Perhaps in the future you will do an archive video about the Gillette Super Adjustables in 84 and 109 millimeters.

Hi Matt, Always fun and informative watching your videos. In fact, I used your tips for restoring my recently purchased Slim Adjustable '68. I wanted one as it's the first quarter of my birth year (N1) as I was born in January that year. Still to use it, but looking forward to an authentic 60's shave with my original Shulton Old Spice soap and matching aftershave. 👌💈

Yes, I have three Slim adjustable razors, one in the case with blades and instructions, one bare bones but nice and a never used gold Aristocrat Slim Adjustable that came from a museum..👍 I do use the bare bones one and enjoy about mid way on adjustment. 60 years old and still work like new, amazing. Super series still enlightening us, great information and examples for us to see. Enjoy!

I just got my slim adjustable in from Ebay yesterday. Produced a great shave on setting 4 for 2 passes and then setting 1 for the last pass. My new favorite razor!

I have a 1967 Slim (M1) in great condition that I use in a rotation with other Gillette Vintage DE razors...it's one of my favorites. The only cartridge razor I have is a Harry's Winston set and I think these are the nicest of this type, but there seems to be little to compare to a Model 195. I started shaving with a safety razor a few years ago. I tried a straight razor, but I haven't managed to get the stropping technique right. I recently bought a shavette for that reason. But a few weeks ago my granddad passed away, and today I inherited (on account of no-one else wanting it) his Gillette slim (model N2) savety razor (came across this video as I was trying to figure out what kind of razor it was). Pretty cool to think that I can shave with the same razor that he used for almost 50 years. I'm probably going to use it for shaving just for that sentimental reason. He didn't have the packaging anymore, just the razor and the plastic DE blade holder (which might be a later purchase).

Great video as always. I have a 1964 Slim that is one of my top four (with a Rocket HD, 6S and A2 DS). I use Feather blades in all of them and I'd say I get about the same shave from the Slim on 4 that I get from the Rocket HD. Both are great experiences, although I like the shorter handle on the Rocket a little better.

It does make it extra fun! My slim was a bit banged up when I found it and needed an overhaul. I figured if I was going to have the work done I’d go with the Rhodium over the nickel mostly for the (slightly?) better scratch resistance. I like the result - the original nickel was mostly brown when I got it so I don’t notice that it doesn’t match lol

Just picked up a slim on Offer Up for $15. It's in fantastic shape but decided to bring it to your shop for a tune up. Just dropped it off today. Really looking forward to using it. My gillette slim adjustable was the first safety razor I ever owned. I love it it's right up there with the Fatboy. I am going to be using it on my birthday with my old spice shave soap in my old spice mug with the old spice aftershave you can get from India

I found a nice condition K1 (my birth year and quarter) a while back for relatively short money on ebay and was glad to see it was in good condition when I got it. I shave with it a couple of times a week in rotation with my Rockwell 6s and Timeless Bronze.

Love it? Ah. I love it so much that I own 5 of them. I loaned 2 to my wet shaving kids, and I have 3. One is on my main shave den, one in my dopp kit, and a backup. Being born in 1965 adds to the love for the slim. Best Gillette razor ever made. Period. Fun fact: I have a K1 and a K4, both my birth year, but the K4 is my birth quarter (Dec 1965), and they both shave exactly the same, but one click below the other. For example, the K1 at setting 7 is the same as the K4 at setting 6. I've tested it multiple times, and also on my shaving channel doing side by side comparisons.

Hi from Greece...Yesterday when i have a conversation with my mother for my grandfather she give me a razor that belongs to him(he died the year i was born 1985).When i clean it i saw under the razor and my surprise was huge...A gillette slim adjustable with letter K and number 3...Today i have my first(emotional)shave...Thanks for all the info...

bluzer 1 only major difference with the skins across all production years is the early ones have a solid center bar / end caps (all 1 piece) whereas the later ones have end caps that are clipped on.

I actually have 2 slim adjustables, 1 that was my uncle's razor, a 1962, in absolute mint condition that I use very rarely, and another one, a 1965, that is in decent shape and I use as the "bar" as far as adjustable razors go. It could use a revamp, maybe some Rhodium plating, and I think you can help me out with that.. 👀

I love my Slims. I can count on a great shave using nearly any blade in it. I have several vintage Gillettes: Old Type, New Improved, New, Tech, Super Adustables and Superspeeds, but most of them seem to prefer a particular blade for best shaves. Sure I have a Fatboy, but it takes 2nd place to the better Slim Adjustable performance.

The farthest left with a blue case is the UK version. Gold inserts are G3-I4 (‘61-‘63), red insert J1-K1 (‘64-‘66) and black L2-N4 (‘66-‘68). The blue case blue inserts are 1965 baseball editions.

Hey Matt, great video. But I have one request as a collector. On your vintage Gillette videos, can you give us viewers kind of a ball park price on some of these razors. Some sellers on the Bay think they have a brick of gold and the only one, “RARE”😂. I pretty much know what the pricing should be but it makes it hard to collect when the prices are all over the board. Makes it somewhat discouraging. Thanks
