Nick, Alum is also an effective antiseptic - useful if you do not use an alcohol based aftershave. Also, some people (with sensitive skin) may need to thoroughly rinse it off after a few minutes. The best news:: Alum is cheap enough everyone can afford to have it on hand!

Hey Nick. I am just getting into wet shaving and I have a question for you. How should I store my alum? I got a block that came with my DE razor assortment pack, but it didn't come with a case. At the moment, I keep it on a small dish in my bathroom. Should it be kept in a case while not in use, or does it matter? Thank you. Great videos! Keep up the great work.

Wipe it with a towel n then keep it in a soap dish or a soap container.

I like that the one has a holder, so I don't get the alum on my fingers. I am satisfied with this product overall. Also, I just leave it on my face after applying it.

The Alum is deodorant. If you look up "mineral salt crystal" you'll bring up a bunch of stuff, it's actually the best deodorant I've ever used.

nick i love this block i just got my first de i got the murker 34 c i love it only made a mistake n didnt get it in the long handel version wich i think im going to buy it soon and buy the 3 pice travel case murker the one comes with the leather case n i got a semoge owners club badger brush cherry wood brush with the corn king skuttle i love it started with the persona red blades n tryed the included murker blade im ready for feathers now

The deodorant is a different salt Ammonium sulfate vs Aluminum sulfate.

Hello Nick! Awesome videos. I absolutely love them. I would like to ask you something about alum. I read that alum has some health risks such as kidney cancer, alzheimer’s and others... Due to heavy metals it consists. I am new to wet shaving, and I like using alum. My skin is rather sensitive and alum helps a lot. Do you really think alum has a bad effect on our health?

Does one still need to use an after shave splash (like say, a Thayers Witch Hazel)? And if so, should I do it before or after applying the alum?

Well, I just learned something. Don't laugh. Call me a hick, but I always thought alum was for styptic properties. I never used a block, just a Pinaud pen for small nicks on occasion. That block doesn't leave a residue on your face like a styptic pen?

Its doesn't leave any residue, and alum does help stop bleeding - though its primarily an astringent

I started using alum a few weeks ago. It doesn't leave any noticeable film on your face. It feels like it sucks the moisture off your face. It doesn't dry it out, just kinda dries it off, and yes, it stings when it goes over cuts and irritated skin.

Does anyone have experience with just applying it and not rinsing it off? Just wondering. If you rinse it off, how long do you keep it on your face?

+Stoeff1987 I will usually rinse it off with cold water. As soon as I am done shaving, I rinse with cold water, use the alum block, place it on a towel to dry and then I start cleaning my brush and my razor. Then I rinse the alum off my face and apply an aftershave balm and/or alcoholic aftershave.

Cheers dude! I basically worked out the same procedure. After my last clean up pass I wash my face with WARM water and apply the alum. Then I clean my brush, wash out my shaving bowl etc and after about 3 minutes I rinse my face with COLD water to get the alum off. I finish off some witch hazel and "Balea Hydro Gel" - you can get this in Austria for under 5 Euros as it is a store brand of the "DM" drug store. Has a nice cooling effect and hydrates the skin without feeling oily.

you know razorock isn't really made in Italy its owned by a Chinese company and manufactured in china

Razorock is an Italian company. The alum that they use to make their blocks and sticks is harvested from China.

Scott Toomey I heard that Italy has this weird law that if you pay a tax they'll allow a company to stamp made in italy on their product even though its made in china

nick shaves It's partly true. It pertains more to companies that manufacture clothing, handbags, etc. The Razorock stuff is the real deal.
