For the allergies question. While I think Positive Punishment is the best answer to this question since we're adding medication to eliminate an issue, I can see why the answer may also be Negative Reinforcement. Eliminating the runny nose will make me want to retake the medication. The most likely scenario is that I will reach for the medicine again because it worked. But which came first, the chicken or the egg? Ask yourself what the issue is, what you did to fix it, and what it led to? I wasn't taking medication to reinforce taking it again. My problem was my runny nose. The intervention was the medication. The outcome was that it stopped. But yes... as a secondary consequence of eliminating the runny nose, I will want to take medication again. I see the correct answer, but I feel it completely ignores taking the medication as an intervention in the first place, which is why people will get this answer wrong if it is worded this way.

Remember that punishment will reduce a behavior. Your behavior increases/maintains in the future, so reinforcement is involved.

@@ABAExamReviewbut it didn’t say they will be taking the medication more often in the future, they just said that it is removing the runny nose. That’s why I also thought it was positive punishment

Same here, Im assuming information that is not stated in the question. I thought it would be positive punishment too

I don't really understand the Negative Reinforcement answer. I thought that it was Positive Reinforcement because it's increasing the behavior....
@tiffanymoss6125
@tiffanymoss6125 Год назад
Is is because we imply that it's going to happen again and that's why it makes it negative because it's on going?
@ABAExamReview
@ABAExamReview Год назад
Negative, in ABA, just means to take away something as a consequence. Negative and positive reinforcement both increase behavior, since reinforcement increases behavior.

@@ABAExamReview Thank you for making these helpful videos. But this question is very confusing. I would like to ask for clarification by framing another question - Eg: The weather affects Anna's allergies. Anna assumes her allergy medicines are not working. So she refuses to take them, and her runny nose gets worse. Please could you correct me if I am wrong,would this be a more accurate example of Negative reinforcement? As she removed something (implies negative) which increased a consequence(behavior increased).
