More speed or More torque , more top end or more acceleration - When racing the win can come from the smallest alteration, and gearing is a great way to get the best out of the car.
How to gear an RC car for speed and Performance…
We take a look at how gearing is measured and how it relates to the track. We start with the basics and move through to more advance information, so you will know what changes will do to the behavior of the car.
spur gear teeth /pinion teeth = gear ratio
gear ratio X internal gear ration = Final Drive ratio
final drive ratio X wheel circumference = Roll out
there are several online ratio calculators that you can use like this one.

roflmao!! I literally have that chart saved on my phone as there's always someone either at the track or on one of the many Facebook pages asking about this hahahaha... Good break down of grearings and ratios - so diffenrence between 'high' or tall gearing compared to 'short' gearing. Also good to see difs getting a look in...depending on whats allowed at each club/race series rules, some have to be left stock, whilst others can be locked/upgraded.. Great vid mate 👌👍

We have not got strict rules in place at the moment but our diff is completely stock.

Hi there! Great video and information! I’m new to the RC world, I got a used TT01 stock and put a brushless motor in it, but it ate the 61t plastic spur gear. I bought a metal spur gear 70T . Still have not installed it but was wandering if that could be done? If not , how can I make it work? I still have not he stock pinion! Thank you for the help!

Tt01 is restricted with the gearing based on the motor mount and therefore 61-58-55 are the spur options. What are you using the car for… just bashing or racing or drift . High speed brushless motors will wear the gears quickly. Running brushed motors I am still on original gears and cars are a couple of years old …

@@PopalongRCI'd like to add an extra question to this comment... I got an extra tt02 high speed gear set for my tt01e, I can not use the 68T spur that comes with it? *edit I also have the tt01 alum motor mount if that makes a difference

I have seen people mod their TT01’s to fit TT02 gearing but it is not something we have done

Hi can I ask what’s the fastest gear set up for the t-01 ? I want to change the pinion gear and large cog but what’s the best tooth size for speed

Interesting... I build my first kit (Tamiya tt02) this year and got the mesh wrong. Gladly I tested it and it was very hard to push 😅 I have a ftx buggy with a stripped plastic spur. I installed a metal one and now the brass pinion spills shavings everywhere. The gears are super smooth into each other. Makes me angry 😡🤣
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC 2 года назад
There is definitely a knack to getting the mesh right and it is key if you want your gears to last … thanks for watching

If you have mesh issues simply use a strip of paper it says how to do this in the build manual so if you have further issues just buy a traxxas or wltoys.

Do you use a setup table for racing? If you do, could you do a how to...Please and Thank you :)

We used to use them when we ran touring cars, but the Tt01 isn’t really precision enough to warrant using one, but we could definitely do a video on how to use one, thanks for the suggestion👍

What size pinion for a 10.5 turn brushless please 🙏
@PopalongRC

What are you using it for???

@@PopalongRC just general use mate it’s a tamiya tt-01 and fusion exceed 10.5 turn combo
@PopalongRC
@PopalongRC Месяц назад
@chrisprud7688 I would start mid range and then build up but you need to keep an eye on the temp of the motor. Also 10.5 brushless might wear your gears quicker than normal . Some clubs race them with 21.5turn and it is more than enough on a track. However just on the street 10.5 might be ok
