I bring out a few drift cars and discuss the bumpsteer
aspect of RC Drifting and how to eliminate bump steer to a certain extent.

I think if you wanted to fully eliminate the bump steer, you would need a setup where all arms and tie rods are equal lengths & parallel. Unequal length arms will effect camber throughout suspension travel, which effects the toe. A tie rod that is longer/shorter than the arms will stop being parallel throughout suspension travel. You might even have to go 0 camber/caster but I'm unsure on that one.

Great point. I agree. Just wish I paid attention to some other chassis I had beforehand because I do remember a owning a vehicle having 0 caster.

Nice video! Your bump steer changes with steering because as you turn, your tie rod point on the knuckle moves up and down due to the combination of caster angle and steering axis inclination. The way to (nearly) eliminate it at all points of travel would be to set your steering bell cranks up so that they swing in essentially the same arc as the knuckles. Lean the physical pivot back to match the knuckle caster angle, and set the bell crank length somewhat close to what the knuckle tie rod offset (vs the upper vs lower ball joint axis). Of course ackerman would get in the way if everything were exactly identical, but I think this would be the best bet to minimize the effects of bump steer across the widest range of travel. This is not too dissimilar to what desert racing trucks do. Neat channel, keep it up!

I've reduced bumpsteer on my YD-2 by adding spacers between steering rack and ball stud. Just like you said, no bumpsteer isn't good and some people like it, I like having some controlled

Personally I wouldn t care for no bumpsteer when the steering is straight on a drift car. But thanks for the vid, I need it for my onroad car! ✌🏼

Unequal length arms will cause bump steer. as well as non parallel arms.
@idealautofactory
@idealautofactory 2 месяца назад
I’m paying attention to that as well. Good point. The little diagram in the video had all 3 arms at equal length.

@@idealautofactory high performance academy (online motorsports/tuning courses website) has a motorsports wheel alignment/suspension course where part of it goes through bump steer. 👍

It’s very possible to achieve 0 dump steer with the ddss I have the same front end, try getting rid of the spacers that were added at the knuckle and increase the servo angle with some spacers, the parallelism will stay more through the sweep of steering, buuuut a low profile servo might be needed due to the design of the ddss

@mattchew9583 ok. I’m gonna shoot a video doing exactly what you stated above. I think it’ll be cool to put some more angle on the servo to make the steering arc during the sweep

Off topic question.. is that the shark dss front?. I have the yd2 ZX. And i want the shark front end with dss.. but i dont see a solution for the top deck. Cant find anything online. Im based in Uk btw..
@idealautofactory
@idealautofactory 2 месяца назад
Yes it is the Rhino Racing DDSS front. Have you ran your current setup without the top deck? I would give it a try first and see if you like it… then get the DDSS if you like running only a bottom deck.
@MrMikeAlright
@MrMikeAlright 2 месяца назад
You would need the gearbox too, but I run without and I like it, you could adopt your own way to stiffen by using a similar style as the rdx stock chassis, or just use what you have and mod it a bit.

get the front gearbox from team AD, the "DDSS" from team AD support YD2 upper deck mounting
