Remember this MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) is merely compressed fine sawdust and is super water absorbent. If you don’t seal it then any moisture is sucked up and this suff will swell and distort.

Nice video. Question in this boats the sponsons are perpendicular to the bottom of the hull? Not angle inward like the Tunnel boats?

Yes the inside of the sponsons are parallel to the centerline, same as a tunnel hull

Good, informative video, thanks. I Always make a jig out of MDF for my mono hull boats. The work and accuracy I put in initially, pays back big time later on in the build process.

Yup, I have a 1/4 twist in my boat because my jig was constructed out of "green" wood and it warped slightly, during construction...did't realize it until i was putting on top decks.

Do you still a pilot hole for the screws so it don't split the mdf ??

Yes! Thanks for asking... MDF breaks easily and will definitely split without pilot holes. I would like to have made a video actually assembling a jig, and maybe I will eventually, but I don't need a different jig right now

You should make a series from start to finish on building one from the ground up. Im new to the hobby and just purchsed my first boat, a older (early 2000's rtr kit) 1/12 scale miss budweiser with a dynamite .15 nitro motor that i am going to do youtube videos on restoring it and running it and found some local clubs i will probably attend to. but would love to know more about building one of the larger scales.

also maybe a video on hull repair? My 1/12 scale I just bought discovered has a crack along the bottom hull area wondering what's the best way to go a out fixing this. Was thinking a dremel and grinding on the cracks and filling with resin and sanding smooth and repaiting.

Really enjoy you videos. I’ve always wanted to build a hydro since I lived near Seattle and used to go to seafair. The cost is what’s stopping me I guess. What’s the best way to get a kit or plans to make all the hull the least expensive ?

Thanks for the kind words Jeff. The least expensive way to get started with RC hydros is to buy a used one. It's risky of course, because you could wind up with junk, but if you're careful and seek knowledgeable advice along the way you can often get a whole lot of bang for your buck. But if you're intent on building new, the best place I know of to buy affordable wood kits is MLBoatworks; mlboatworksrc.com/ Many good fiberglass boats and cowlings are also available from RC Boat Company; rcboatcompany.com/ Between these two you should be able to find almost anything you'd want!

In RU-vid there is this possibility to set the speed of the video. I dialled it up to 2x the original speed of this video and still could hear every word he says. Just a suggestion for those who want to see this video, but also appreciate to save a little time.

Scott get Ur self a GoPro camera with a head band strap that way instead of Ur Phone .U can have the camera on Ur forehead so what Ur looking at is in frame allowing U to work with both hands 👍

Thought about that, but never know if your head is pointing exactly where your eyes are. Close up views get pretty tough that way too. My last complaint is the bucks.... Free RU-vid videos don't pay very well!
