Oh my... Tell me you're not really a PVC guy! Isn't there a support group or something to help guys quit PVC? Oh wait, there is... My video! Get after it. You can do it!
Thanks Scott, I m new to the channel. Just got a zipkits shovelnose. Tons of great tips.thinking of going brushless with it as I m not going to race and also noise restrictions in my area
Hallo how do you measure the cg on a boat Is it also very important like a.for a plane If cg is not correct you dont can fly it Is that same with a boat thank you
Hi Scott, I'm being watching your videos and really amazed of the attention to detail you put into these pieces of art. Incredible builds! Do you know or have build plans for 1/8 scale nitro hydroplanes? Sure there would be some on the internet right?
Thanks Gerard! Check these out; If you're looking for plans so you can scratch build your own boat, Newton Marine has a huge selection here; www.newtonmarine.com/ Really great pre-cut wood kits are at MLBoatworks; mlboatworksrc.com/ Many good fiberglass boats and cowlings are also available from RC Boat Company; rcboatcompany.com/ Between these three you should be able to find almost anything you'd want. Happy building!
Do basically the same thing, I add a bottom with drain holes. When I tear down the boat after race everything get stored in the stand. IE flex shaft, tune pipe, engine with after run in paper towels. All in one place, ready to reassemble for next race. I know, sounds anal but that's my OCD. As always great vid. \m/
I like it! I used to strip my boats completely at the pond after every race too, but I guess I've gotten lazy the past couple years because I'm doing Monday teardowns now. Great idea though... Wished I had mentioned that as an option.

Your work is so neat. Thanks Scott. I'm at at the point of my catamaran build where I'm ready to start skinning the thing, so your videos have helped tremendously. Just a quick one, do you start from the top or the bottom when skinning?
Bottom. It's where all the action is. The top is just for show. Ideally when you lay the top on it'll overlap the edge of the sheeting you laid on the sides, giving you a clean and seamless top surface. Almost done... Keep going!
The rudder determines the height... Make it so the rudder won't hit the table or the bottom of the stand (assuming you need to put a floor area below the prop). Leave yourself a good 1/2" space below the bottom of the rudder. Then slope it upward 1/2" or so to the front so the boat will sit with the nose slightly higher than the rear. I tell myself I do that so any water in the hull will run toward the rear, but to be honest I do it because it looks cool that way!
you forgot to show the glue being used during assembly.... but at 13 mins, your talking about the mid brace, you can see the glue in the joints... sneaky sneaky my friend!
Yeah yeah, I know. I was afraid the video was getting too long and nobody would watch it. The video shows just the test-fit of everything. Next I take it all apart and glue it up. But you're clearly paying attention... I'm impressed!
@@M5PerfHydros I think a lot of us would watch a more detailed stand build, now that it is the off season. As you would say "Get to it!" thank you for all the content and help you provide.
All i want are the measurements--Front to back and the height of the prop cover area--And the height of the sides--Once i get the boat from Ken Olson then i can cut the front & rear panels for the tunnel width--Then glue and screw them on. Just don't want to waste the 1/4" ply.
All of this has to do with the size of the boat. Height just needs to be enough so the rudder will clear by 1/2" or so. For my boat (which may be different than yours!), the height of the side at the rear is 5.5". Be sure to take into consideration the cut-out area for straddling the table. The prop cover area overall height is 9", but again this should be adjusted to fit your boat!
I'm not selling kits Jerry, sorry. My plans are just traced parts on paper and as such require a great deal of hands-on work to prepare and assemble. The best place I know of to buy wood kits is MLBoatworks; mlboatworksrc.com/ Many good fiberglass boats and cowlings are also available from RC Boat Company; rcboatcompany.com/ Between these two you should be able to find almost anything you'd want!
Ha! Do I have to show you guys everything? Kidding.... I only showed the test-fit in the video, then stripped it apart and glued all the joints. C'mon man!
@@M5PerfHydros I have question..I have a cowl from RC Boat company and a hull from ML Boat works...there is quit a bit of gaposis in between deck and bottom cowl edges...how do you get rid of those gaps?
@@kyleboyer1074 - Sorry for the slow reply Kyle... RU-vid notifications don't seem to work very well. You've probably already solved the problem by now but we'll talk about it anyway.... Truth is there's no good answer other than a Dremel tool and grinding and sanding. You've just got to modify the cowling by whatever means necessary until it sits flush. Sometimes you just take off material until it fits, but other times I've had to cut them apart and totally reshape to fit. I guess this is why I make all my own cowls now. Oh and speaking of that, I have a new video coming soon that'll show YOU how to do it!
