Please note, this is not the RC Range Rover out of the box.
It has had some modifications.
I saw a video of this MN168 Range Rover a few months ago.
It seemed to take a while to release. The body is very nicely detailed & scale but the wheels & axles design are added just for crawling ground clearance & performance in my opinion.
I gambled I could change these to standard straight axles to improve scale looks. It still has good ground clearance I think for trails. One picture in the advert shows the vehicle with smaller axles & MN78 wheels. So it gave me hope the mod could be done. It was actually quite easy. Just four screws to the bridge & the drive shafts. I chose not to go full metal links to keep the cost down. But can easily be further upgraded later.
I'll use the portal axles on another project later. Maybe another Unimog?
I haven't done a full review video yet. Generally it's not that good. It's based on the MN78 chassis. Motor is needs more power. So hopefully a 370 conversion should be straight forward. It presently can't crawl at all well. Big wheels or small. But better than the MN78 did.
It is two speed ( just power reduction for slow speed), Full working lights including break lights. No reverse, but I don't know if a 1970s RR would have had reverse lights anyway. Good interior, opening front doors, opening bonnet, (for the battery), good accessory details.Shocks seem quite good as standard.
I designed the Rostyle wheels. Took a couple of attempts to get the offset right. But happy with the classic look now.
LINK TO THE WHEEL STL FILE: cults3d.com/en...
This wheel will fit all the WPL tyres. But I stuck with C34 versions as they fill the arches without having to lower the suspension.
Quick details:
* Typical MN metal axles availble from Aliexpress or Amazon. They fit straight onto the standard plastic bridge
* Metal drive shafts from Amazon to fit MN78 (larger output diameter on the motor than previous motors)
* 5 inch driver Doctor Who figure, without the legs
* 3D printed wheels
* WPL C34 tyres
* 3D printed mudflaps & brackets
* 3D printed rear number plate
* Still standard electronics & suspension
Thanks for watching...!

First: my very warmest congratulations on a job well done. Second - it's surprising to see how little you found it necessary to do to this truck. You were happy just to replace the drive train, really.. Third - I was impressed by details on the body, such as door pulls and keyholes, that black vent, the side panelling, the front and rear wipers. Fourth - @ 2:29 it suddenly seemed to be imbued with the ephemeral, hard to pin down quality of...effortless grace that is displayed in abundance by the original machine. I have had the pleasure of owning two of these Spen King-designed masterpieces. One of them was a Vogue, in this very colour. I'm afraid I tore the engine and radiator out of it, and gave it away. I put the engine in mine. Thanks for reawakening my desire to build an RC Range Rover!

Thanks Del. I took a gamble that these axles would fit & be slim enough. But luckily due to the interchangeability of these types of RC it was a quick success. Also in a promotional photo I could just see that an earlier version had this setup. The body looked better than it's toy grade appearance. But all in I'm happy with the outcome. The shocks are actually quite good as standard. So that helped to glide across the rubble scene! The motor is very under powered for a crawler. But there are upgrade options thanks to the chassis being based on the MN78/82. The motor was good enough for an initial trail run. We've all got vehicles in the past that would be worth having again now. The number I added to the rear plate of the RR was from a Hillman Imp I used to own.

@@RC3DPrintAdventure You had an Imp! Aren't they marvellous? I love watching them (and Minis) nibbling at the heels of Ford Galaxies at Goodwood. Do you recall the posh Singer version, the Chamois? So, I know I want an MN 186, but thanks to you I now know that I also need a 370 gearbox and motor...

@@Del350K4 Oh yes, I always liked the look of the chamois or even the California! (TV series, 'man with a suitcase' I believe had one?) I've had a few minis too. So I do appreciate the small nimble classics. I have a lot of the old number plates on the shed wall for reference that I used to own. They creep onto some of my RCs. The number plate I used on my FMS series 2 Land Rover was from a mini traveller a family member crashed rather spectacularly. The good news for the MN168 is it's based on the MN78 chassis. They came out a while ago so all the upgrades are getting cheaper. I just ordered another set of metal drive shafts for £4 from Amazon. Lots of cheap upgrades on Aliexpress as well. Also the MN168 seems a little cheaper on Aliexpress now if you were so inclined.

@@RC3DPrintAdventure I want to build a replica of my old bobtailed Range Rover. 1:12 is my favourite scale, so the 168 looks to be a perfect starting point for me.
