312 future doctors from 32 countries around the world donned caps and gowns to graduate from RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences today.
In response to the unprecedented situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic, medical degrees were presented to graduands at a virtual conferring ceremony.
RCSI’s School of Medicine conferring ceremony sees the largest number of doctors in Ireland graduate each year and today’s event was a celebration for students and their families.
During the ceremony, Professor Hannah McGee invited the Class of 2020 to stand and recite the Graduates’ Declaration with pride.
Professor McGee said: “At conferring ceremonies, I am given the great honour to lead the graduate’s declaration, today, in the situation we are faced with COVID-19 has the declaration never meant so much, to me, and to you as medical professionals.”
“The RCSI Graduate declaration which you will recite together this afternoon is a commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical practice in your career as taught during your studies in RCSI.”
“During the reciting of the declaration, the words will appear on screen, I encourage you, from where you are, and whoever you are with, to stand, and recite this declaration with pride, listen to, and absorb each word you say.”
