Let me make sure I understand this correctly. According to Kyle, the right way to mix a beat is to •Color coordinate your daw. •Assign sounds (that should automatically go to a mixer channel) to a mixer channel. •Change your mixer settings. Not so you can see the correct db, no no no, but so you can see a neat little graphic of the waveform which does absolutely nothing to help you mix the beat. In fact, not seeing the correct db, may very well render your mix completely out of wack. •Add effects. But only if you need it. But then I should add a low pass, high pass, or band pass filter, even if i dont need it just for the sake of adding a low pass, high pass, or band pass filter. • Raise the velocity in the piano roll. And immediately after doing that, go into the mixer channel for the sound i just raised all the way up, and lower it. 🤦♂️ •Add the drip plugin, which I may or may not have. (Because hey, who doesn't like to watch tutorials that teach you how to mix with plugins that you don't have?) • Add a low pass filter to my 808...... Again..... And not because the highs of the 808 are interfering with other sounds in my beat, just for the sake of adding a low pass filter. • Add Maximus, turn the post up and I quote, "click this button" ... I shit you not.. He actually said... "click this button" In a "How to mix the RIGHT WAY" tutorial. Click... This... Button.. 🤬 • And last but not least add a limiter to the master but turn all the knobs down. I'll tell ya, I don't know what I would do if I didn't watch this tutorial dude. This is gonna take my mixing to a whole other level. I'm so glad he didn't bore us with things like gain staging, VU meters, soloing tracks for reference, busses, sends, returns, parallel compression, panning, frequency masking, stereo widening, dynamic range, and LUFS. Now I think I'll go watch a "How to be a better photographer" video by a blind guy.
In the past year or 2 there have been pretty big improvements to FL's workflow, specifically routing stuff to the mixer. But you need to know that instrument tracks exist. They make projects so much tidier. Kyle clearly has not discovered this feature yet.
I paid $300 for FL a few years ago, thinking I was going to make it 'My DAW', it was just so unintuitive I couldn't get a good workflow going. Tried Ableton one day, and was blown away by how fast I was able to make a beat. Haven't used FL since.
Correct. the sound is not coming from obs, it’s been this way forever and I have no idea why he dose it. Especially in a mixing tutorial, wouldn’t you want us to hear everything your doing as accurately as possible lol
Ah yes... the #1 issue with FL - Mixing. WinTFYo? I saw another FL video a long time ago on loading stuff into the mixer and bought Live Suite the same day. Also... drip reminds me of a Unison plugin. How does cutting high frequencies help the 808 and the kick again? The room he is in must be the bathroom.. has that toilet sort of ambience.
It's been a while since you posted this but I'm curious if you now realize why it's good to EQ basically every sound like that if ya leave a little low in every sound it'll clutter the mix, if you have an unwanted resonant frequency then might as well completely remove it
