More content like this is needed. Because some people feel if they don't live _solely_ off their art they're a failure. But I'd say: "Wife, kids _and_ creativity? This guy's made it!"
💯 it’s not hard to forget that sometimes but it’s really the good life. If you get to perform or create and still have money and a family, you’ve made it!
@@ThePinkLadyAppleHousethat’s even crazier, you get up and then travel to the Stu before work, that’s some iron clad will right there. I’d be lucky to get 30 minutes in before work lmao.
I have started a home studio at 45, amid two toddlers, a wife, a 9-5 job and an MBA degree. I was waking up early too, just for fooling around with music. Those couple of hours (not every day) gave me the mental strength to overcome all the difficulties at that period of my life. But I didnt have separate place for my studio untortunately. Anyway this is the power of music I guess. Wish you all the best, my friend!
This video means a lot to me, as a visual artist that's constantly struggling to maintain a balance between work, life and art. Life is like a constant cycle of doing what you hate in an attempt to give you excitement for what you love.
44 years old now, been making music since I was 20, I also have a family now and all the other commitments but that creative impulse is still strong, it's good to see that there are others out still finding ways to keep at it. for me it's late nights but I have always felt that if I could do it mornings would be more productive. cheers for video mate
I'm in a similar situation (sans wife/girlfriend or kids), but I'm still finding it hard to take time to give to my art and creative projects. This video was encouraging, and showed me that there _is_ a way. John Hughes, the writer/director, apparently took periods of time being nocturnal just so he could write _and_ have a family. He would write all night (this was the pre-internet era so there were no distractions), then he'd wake his sons up, get them ready for the day, drop them off at school, and come home and sleep for several hours. He'd wake up, pick them up from school, come home, have dinner with his wife and kids, and go back to writing and repeat the cycle all over again. And that's how we ended up with Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Home Alone 1 & 2... _and_ two sons who have grown up to be well-rounded and balanced individuals. Not an easy task, but John did it.
Relatable - I push the time at the end of the day though - I can't get up for shiiiiiiit in the morning - 4am ain't happenin'! Drag my arse out around 7am and go to work. Home. Eat. Chill a bit. Music until midnight-1am. Rinse and repeat. Like a dirty habit 😂 PS nice tune dude 🙌
Love this man. As a fellow beatmaker with a full time job, partner and kids i can heavily relate. Inspiring to see you carve out a daily practice to express yourself ❤
Brooooooooo.......as a dad and husband with a full time job and love producing music, I can relate to this so much . My sessions start in the evening after I shower cause my work day starts at 5 in the morning, we need more content like this bro, it's inspiring to see.
Brooooo! I connect with this so much - husband, father and musician. I have to get up at 4:30 to have time for making any music. I feel you, thanks for posting this! ✌️🤝
Family first! The fact that you put your family first shows so much about a persons character. Thank You for being a loving dad first not many have their priorities in the proper perspectives. Never sacrifice your family for anything. Your family is the reason and purpose for your sole existence especially when that's your Source of love and support. Continue with what you're doing... I grew up with MF DOOM and 1 thing he always told me deal or no deal always get the music out especially when you hear it in your head. I miss my brothers. Much love to you and your family Sir. Love the music. It definitely takes me back .. just listening to different albums for hours trying to find that right sample... until I started playing around with fruityloops back in 1997... I told DOOM that using computers to make beats was going to be the future and he told me no we used to go back and forth on the subject.. needless to say.. I told my brother before it happened. I miss them all. Ride the cosmic DJ SUBROC Dingalizwe DOOM KEVLOVE
I love your process, I’m up at 4AM before my day job as well, but not always putting in work like you sir. U have inspired me to do more. Great video and even better beat!
Cheers to the 4am club. Yeah I have to put in the time or else I get irritable haha I have programmed myself to make things so I am going to do it one way or another.
@@ThePinkLadyAppleHouse thanks again bro! “I have programmed myself to make things so I am doing it one way or another.” Brilliant! Simply said and words to live by.
Love this man! I am right there with you. I scored 3 feature-length films over the last two years, all while working a full-time job, and I've run my whole semi-career that way. We all want that big break, but the reality is that it's about the daily grind, and I LOVE my time between 3:00 am and 7:00.
My beat making skills evolved very slowly - if at all - over the last 20 years and now i even use more and more drum loops. Because I am not great at all. But I love every minute of my hobby and i can listen to my own loops with cool drums (which i can´t reproduce) for hours. I am always sitting there thinking I am the only one who ever heard this. No need to get it out there and become a real musician. Its YOUR TIME!
Man this and your “sorry I’m not cooler” vid really resonated with me. At 34 I just knew I would be a full time artist touring and providing for my family with my art. I work 12 hour days 5 days a week off on weekends. It’s a blessing because all my other jobs before I was married in 2019 took my weekends away. So not having time kills me. I finally released my first few songs on DSP’s last year but it was a chore to find the time to do it. I’m glad I found this channel tho, your style is inspiring and I plan on focusing more on creating and not the result. Oh and also, this beat is a pocket rapper’s dream! Love your stuff bro, definitely gained a sub from me!
Duuuuude! Just came across your channel randomly and it's inspiring me to utilize those early mornings before work to create more music. Keep it up brother!!!!
I'd be interested in further detail of how you're managing this. I never want something I'd doing for myself to negatively impact my kids, but in order to be a good father, I also have to look after myself, nourish my soul with music, etc etc
It’s a tough thing man. I’m a new father and realized pretty quickly that if I wanna get anything done I better get up pretty early, haha. Having a family really changes your perspective and even when opportunities arise that could change your life (something I’m experiencing now) you MUST put your family first. There is sacrifice on either side of any decision you make when you have a family. I love your work, keep getting up at the butt crack of dawn!
i watched like 1 minute of the video and without hesitation i clicked the like and sub button, nice work, my kind of videos! keep them coming, btw amazing chops on that MPC! 🙌🏻
Yup, 47yrs old, always playing in bands, gigging, home studio as well, my whole adult life, but also working 12hr days on call weekends overtime, still have yard to mow house to maintain cars to work on, all that normal blue collar guy stuff. But balance work family and gigging in 3 bands because I play bass drums and guitar I had a band for all 3, and doing my home studio thing. Dude its a juggling act, now Im getting older, and just quit gigging out, moved to the country, and kids are grown and out on their own. I finally have time to “take my time” and just focus on home studio work and I absolutely love it. Also don’t forget the nobody really cares, and you cant give it away free now days. But we keep doing it anyway. Because that’s who we are. Keep it up man, never give up on that piece of yourself. Its who we are.
Dude I’m 23 working at Costco for two years in nov honestly been very unmotivated and uninspired and started slacking even at work, late, no call no shows, got suspended for three days but seeing this video just made me realize how good things are and what I need to prioritize. Thank you from this random viewer
This is dope. Trying to balance family, work and gaming/music is hard and part of the reason i haven't been doing anything music/gaming or YT wise. I think ima try getting up earlier in the morning than trying to stay up late at night. Keep it up. ~one~
Respect! 😊 I can totally relate to finding that balance and still finding time to be creative. It ain't easy but somehow we do it. I dig the raw groove too! ☺️
This was hella inspiring. I have a lot of respect for the process and how sampling and remixing both honours and breathes new life into art history. Keep chasing your passions and inspirations no matter how clear or aimless it can feel day to day. Take care, my guy
I’m in the same boat man. Wife and two children. Full time job. I’ve got ideas to escape my job and build my own thing but struggling to find time and energy after the grind. You inspired me to set an alarm!
Respect man. Family man also. I can relate to the irritation and frustration when not dedicating time to creativity. As well as the guilt when not being around for the family.
@@ThePinkLadyAppleHouse For sure. Would appreciate seeing more of how you organize your time. What time you get to sleep. How many hours of sleep you normally get. How many hours a day you get to be creative etc.
this is super relatable. I think even a lot of 'working musicians' require day jobs now, or at least 'work hours' to create some product offerings, etc. Those morning hours after sleep tend to be the easiest creative times when you don't have to force anything. Your mind is just a clean slate - open to channeling divine inspiration, I think that's why it comes easily. it's always harder to make time after dinner when household things or family grab our attention or interrupt the flow state.
@@ThePinkLadyAppleHouse it's always this- 9Pm... My dog: "whines to go out" me on the couch: "man, I just hit the record button" (covered in synths and wires) takes 5 min to unplug everything and get up 🤣
My day to day life is very similar. Wife, kids, day job and a home studio that I don’t get to utilize as much as I like. But I’m fighting the good fight. Salutes Bro. Dope beat by the way.
Man, you’re making me heavily consider getting up early to work on music before I go to my job as a mailman. I’m sitting on hundreds of beats and instrumentals that I always tell myself I’ll finish after work, but it just doesn’t happen that often with family time and being worn out from work too. Thanks for posting this (also been following you on IG for a while now). Keep bringing the good vibes brother! ✌️ ❤️
You should give it a try. And don’t think about it too much when it comes to finishing a beat. After work and family stuff, I am pretty tired too. The struggle is real! And thank you. 🤙🤙
Hey man thanks for sharing this video. It’s super inspiring and I appreciate your dedication to not only your creativity but to the other things that are so important. Keep it up!!
I too have a family and a job and a Lab I don’t get to be in my studio as much as I would like too, but it’s refreshing to see someone else in a similar situation. You’ve inspired me to start putting content on my channel again…so be on the look out for content!
You got yourself a new Subscriber bro. I wish we all had more time for our hobbies but yea that's life i think. I'm a hobby beatmaker and i know how hard it is to find time for yourself and be creative when you have a full time job and married :) Respect !
Respect man. Im a full on producer, DJ, Father and University lecturer...it's rough to find the balance sometimes, I feel ya! I begin at 0530 each day. ON my work days I'll stay in studio until 0830, then get to work by 1000, work until 1900 and be with my family. On my 'Studio days' I'll be up 0530 and work 3 days straight as much as I humanly can while doggy walking and family time. Weekends are either touring or family weekends. Sunday evening I get my place ready for cooking beats in the morning. The balance is hard to find....but we keep rocking it. We don't know how else to do it right?
