The thing I'm most disappointed about, out of all things, is that Scorbunny's name isn't Hopscorch. The pokemon company missed a perfect opportunity there
2:50 My friend put it perfectly when talking about Zeraora, a mon which he thought had the same problem: "Zeraora is like, my favorite Digimon or something." They're not poorly designed, just... not Pokémon-ish?
I like your copperajah redesign line but... They are supposed to be steel-type so the original design conveys that more accurately with the more square edges. I think designing Pokémon is a delicate balance between aesthetics and type-based designs. We can’t just have all normal type looking Pokémon.
Agreed. I like the concept behind Copperajah- not only is it an Indian elephant, but India was- or might still be- a mass importer of copper. What Rea called “squiggles” were supposed to look like copper ore veins, and the shades of blue-green is oxidized copper.
@@pixlbelle8081 ya and I thought the redesign for esicue wasn’t that amazing because it doesn’t look like that much of a penguin no more to me esicue is the most simple and the most realistic.
@@pixlbelle8081 copperajah I can understand being fine, but cufant, that throws me off everytime, it doesn't look like something that would turn steel type or be related to copper
Hi!! If you’re about to comment complaining about my pronunciation please first be aware that reading is really difficult for me and I’m trying my best 💗💗💗
Was really hoping to see a Coalossus redesign... when I evolved my Carkol I was vastly disappointed. I feel like the wheel and/or coal car concept should have stayed consistent. Coalossus is just Golem with a pile of chili on its back.
Jingy Riceball it’s based of furnaces- going from a lump of coal, to a mine cart carrying coal, to a furnace using coal. I believe it’s meant to represent the process of coal in the past from how it began to how it ended up in the past.
@@cillianstewart9441 Yeah the change from Carkol to COalossal was equal to the amount of wings on a human body- none to normal people but if you get too high you can see a few
It's exclusive to Sword and only appears in the late game in it as well, so, if you want to play the whole playthrough with them, you should get someone to trade them for you! Have fun!
Icecue's design is so simple and stupid, literally a penguin with a single strand of hair and a huge icecube on its head, with a weird round head underneath... I can't help but love it because of that though ??
I feel like Stonjourner should have been like a WishiWashi situation. Kinda like?? One would be a single stone. Like maybe a turtle that hides in its shell and looks like a rock and every so often peeks out. And then it can have some sort of ability where a bunch of itself stacks together when it gets a status condition or something to make what stonjourner actually looks like. And then it’s evolution would be a rock turtle out of its shell.
I understand your points on stonjourner, but what makes me love him is that his dex entry says that a group of them come together and just hang out in a circle once a year, like a sojourner.
I like Stonjourner now mainly because of the pokedex entry where once a year, the stonjourners meet up to form stonehenge. and I think that's hilarious. The only part i dislike is that he has high defence, but low special defence.
“Drizzle looks like cry baby kid turned emo.” Yes and I love him I’ve had him for five hours and if anyone makes him faint I will fight everyone in the game and then myself.
"they looked good, but not like pokemon designs" FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES OMG edit: dear god i'm starting to get scared an argument might start up in the replys helb edit2: okay so i'm seeing some people thinking i'm saying the design look bad, but that's not the case. read what i quoted from the video *"they looked good, but not like pokemon designs."* i think most of the design look great! most. impidimp's line looks like pokemon trying to ripoff yo-kai-watch and it's ugly, and blipbug looks like a 3 year old's crayon doodle. edit3: okay gotta adress something thats been buggin' me a bit- "people have been saying that since [insert gen]" okay, but which pokemon did people say that about? and how many pokemon per gen? yeah. okay. listen, what i'm saying as a long-term pokefan that literally every gen before galar looked perfectly fine and understandable. so maybe there might have been a few pokemon people said that about, sure that makes sense. but with galar it's almost every pokemon that doesn't feel like a pokemon. i hope this didn't sound angry! just clarifying some stuff.
@@omegaelement yo kai watch isn't a pokemon knock off.....The only similarity between the games is that their both the same genre, being pocket monsters games. But otherwise i do agree
Lets not act like "Stealth Bomber" wasn't TOTALLY incorporated into the Diplocaulus design. Seriously even the dex entries and the fact it shoots kids from its face as missiles screams "Stealth Bomber" cuz yeah......Diplocaulus's totaaaaalllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy kept their young in their face to launch as ammunition.
I like him just not his cape. It is too angular for his sleek look and it is too bright for a spy. :( aside of that though. He took a while to grow on me but I kinda like it after seeing snipe shot too. I'd want some color palette tweaks and his cape to be softer and rounder looking to go with his fin though
Ok so I think the reason drakloak’s head looks like that is because its based on the diplocaulus which is an ancient, extinct salamander with a boomerang shaped head. Their heads look like that normally lol, save for the aerofoils
To be fair I like Stonegeurner in concept but I think the design is not my favorite. It feels cartoony but not in the way geodude is and for just some rocks it feels a little over designed which is why it doesn't feel Pokemon-like to me. It is cute I like it mostly in concept but I think it needed less pattern and more face. Eiscue needs the opposite. It needs more ice and details so it blends into its head and doesn't look like an irl penguin but cartoonized with a blue square for a head. It needs more jagged of ice in more places and to blend into it more kinda like Rea's design I think my main problem with the pokemon that don't feel like pokemon is even boring simple designed pokemon like Grimer, Voltorb etc. Had a very anime look. Or in the case of Pokemon like duraludon that look monsterous we have ones like Tyranitar. Small angular eyes etc. But they always either look like a pet from an anime and a natural progression as it evolves or a monster from a superhero comic. Here not all of them get either treatment. I feel it's why folks don't like Chandelure. Litwik isn't as expressive as like Cubone or Geodude though it kinda works for something that turns into a pretty but spooky snd lifeless flying ghost chandelier.
but this is the big league! they can't just throw arms on a rock again!! idk i feel like i get what they were going for but i also KNOW they could've done better
I think geodude is a great pokemon, it's a simple design but it looks like a fantasy creature while stonejourner just doesn't work as a simple design, they also didn't bother to make it actually look like a creature.
I know I’m not the only one who noticed the ‘approved’ medals were either gold, silver or bronze, depending on how much Rea liked them (I think). :0 ALSO YES THE JINGLE IS BACK!
The medals were the ones used to grade your curry as well. I believe charizard class was the highest you could get and koffing (is that how you spell it?) was the lowest.
I like his concept he needs more face and less details XD then I'd love sweet little stonegeurner's design much more Eiscue needs the opposite less real penguin with a smooth circular or square gummy looking head and more details that blend it's head in with it's body a bit...I like her redesign of Eiscue way better. Though, I like Stonegeurner's concept of sentient Stonehenge and he is trying his best. I think he needs a more anime looking face like how geodude or voltorb have (not totally just like not beady eyes and a mouth only though) and less details on its lower body to detract from the face so it does feel more alive.
This was great and I love the redesigns, but as someone who isn’t as familiar with the new Pokémon and especially with the changes in design being more minor, it would have been really nice to have some kind of side by side with the original and the redesign to compare
@@PeachTIgerDraws that's cause all he needs to do is wait, he is inevitable In all seriousness probably the best designed pokemon in the gen in my opinion, just that fact that they took this pokemon that was quite useless and made it a bear trap is badass, 10/10 for effort to the guy that came up with that idea
Rea: "with the power of God and Anime on my side; I shall fix thy pokémon design" God, Arceous, Lord Omastar, Lord Kabuto: "she's talking about me" Me: "actually she's talking about him" **Points at Dady Sakurai**
I’m glade to hear other people noticed the big art style change and didn’t really like it, to me they didn’t read as Pokémon eaither to drastic a shift of style
@@sr.racoon4961 No you're right. James Turner took over for Sugimori on this project. He's been a supporting artist since Gen V, so it's not like it came out of nowhere. GameFreak has been pretty tight-lipped about the reasons why and whether or not it's permanent. Nevertheless, that's why everything looked so different.
@@66Roses he worked on gen 5? But i loved a lot of gen 5's pokemon but a lot of the new designs in this gen are iffy, intellion, i cant get over how skinny he looks, its uncomfortable for me Side note, wouldve been cool to see krookadile, one of my absolute favourite pokemon, has cool design and its pretty strong, though wouldnt have made too much sense with the uk setting Then again, pandas and elephants arent what one usually finds in the uk
@@areallymeanperson I agree so many designs this gen do not look like pokemon. The starter evolutions are too humanoid. Impidimp and mogrem do not look like pokemon. Obstagoon is a furry. Boltund looks like a furry head on a dog. Carcoal does not look like a pokemon. Eiscue is just a penguin with a weird cube head. Micery doesn't look like a pokemon. Chewtle looks stupid. New Mr mime somehow looks worse than the old one, though I like me rime. But i do really like cramorant, corvonight, polteageist, duraladon, toxtricity, frosmoth and all 3 of the starters 1st forms.
I'm just realising now how much Raboot looks like a roadman, and now I can't imagine Raboot not going up to people saying "wagwan fam, you looking peng today fr man"
What I don't get is why Boltund looks so weird in 3d. The art looks really good for it, the cards look really nice, but the 3d model looks really off to me. I think Yamper's lone would've worked so much better in a 2d generation, because the 3d models aren't doing them much favours considering they both look so so much better in 2d
after she finishes her nuzlocke series, i feel like her pilot would be more important to her studio than a passion project. just kinda my opinion? ngl i lOVE her nuzlocke series but i wouldn’t ask of rea to postpone an important part of her career to make her youtube audience happy with another nuzlocke comic series.
Ikr cuz her animations keep on improving every single day. and can't wait to watch more of her nuzrea comic dubs when she's finished. I can't contain my excitement. 😄😏👍
It's the only reason why he survived my order 66 What's my order 66? Execute all Pikachu, it's evolutions, their forms, and all Pikachu clones And no, Mimikyu is not the target For she is a queen, and perfect pokémon
Ok, so, I know you were just trying your best, and you had trouble with a few, but I think you didn’t realize the origins for a few when making these redesigns. No hate, just some little notices. Greedunt is based on red squirrels rather than a gray squirrel, like Skwovet. This is to imply that the gray one is more common and effective than the red, so it would be cohesive. However, they should have just been counterparts. Theivul, based on Guy Fawkes. So, with your recolors, I would have added more white to the face. Oh, and saturation DID fit in... in gen 5 when all Pokémon had better colors. Gen 6 ruined the saturation for a lot of the colors. So, it seems like they’re trying to fix the problem the made, and I love it. Good on them. I do love many of your redesigns... Besides Boltund. Too attached to it. If you read this at all, thank you so much!
Yeah I mean geedent is on the “sleep paralysis demon” tier, but, the other ones do look pretty solid, like dragapult, it’s a fighter jet catapult ghost dragon, that is next level idea. Also snom is precious and flawless, I dare you to say otherwise
Vala agreed, like, I really love a lot of these bright designs, I know Pokémon are supposed to be animals but we already have quite a few with unnaturally coloring like electrike, Pikachu, arbok, so I can’t really see the color compliant with some of these Pokémon like Copperajah and Impadimp,
I like the stojurner redesign. It reminds me of the ultra beast that's a chimney. If they changed it to a Galar version of an ultra beast, that would justify turning such an iconic location to something unique. Keep the ghost/rock typing but have a whole ring of stones. Something like you have to fight it because it's guarding the rusted sheild and sword, rather than being somewhere in your backyard forest...
Okay, it’s such a small detail in the vid, and the video on the whole is amazing and beautiful, you gotta love Rea’s redesigns. But, like, around the beginning of the video, with the random sketches of Gen 5 Pokémon on the desk, I saw sketches of Purrloin, which is, like, my favorite Pokémon... EVER. No idea why. So... like, just that little detail there made my day. Thanks Rea!
Very creative character designs. Your work on poses and expressions are impressive: fun, organic and fluid. Color coordination is on spot and very well adapted for your art style. I'm no expert, but I am quite confident to say that you have incredible talent. I look forward to seeing what your future animation studios can do.
I physically jumped when you mentioned Hawlucha. There's a tie between Hawlucha and Gallade for my favorite pokemon. I love their colors, designs, and shinys
The fox pokemon doesn't look like a pokemon. And maybe the stonehenge: add scary eyes and clouds/fog at the feet to show that there is fog and it's ghostly.
Honestly when I saw her redesign, I thought she was going to go with some kind of Pokemon, puppetting the stonehenge to move like a marionette. I mean we have Runergius. Another new ground or rock ghost type would have been cool and could of lined up really well with Runergius line.
I would’ve changed Appletun’s eye placement. They look too much like ears, so I would’ve had them on the dome or in the dome like a ghost fish. Keep the flaps though, cutesy lil ears
I actually hated Appletun's design at first glance, and was still a bit offput by it when seeing its full design. But then I saw it's size was only "1'04", and then I imagined it slowly crawling on the ground making cute lil' pig noises, and it jumped to a 9/10 for me! Least till I realized those ears were its eyes, and it went down to 7/10. Shame. Still cute with its eyes flopped, though.
Canon Toxel line looks like a grumpy child who's dead inside with two parents who hate each other but refuse to get divorced. Rae's ré-design Toxel line looks like an actually healthy, really funny family that communicates, the kid's just grumpy because he's at the age when he's embarrassed by his parents' affection, but he loves them, too.
Nah, hardcore Stonjourney fan. I really love its simple, odd style--I would only change the mud on its feet maybe. It's pretty fast for a rock type too! I love using mine.
@@ymaets4673 exactly they say “omg they look so different omg omg” like shut the hell up to me the Galar region is the most realistic with Pokémon it’s like saying that animals don’t look like animals and people forgot voltorb was a design.
Me: *OH MY GOD ENGLAND REGION WE FINALLY GET ACTUAL STONEHENGE!* GameFreak: no we had this in XY the France region we get Stonehenge Pokemon. Me: *OH COME ON!*
I didn't gave a *hoothoot* about either. Sad that I didn't get to see Luxio return.. But at least we have Wailord, Gamefreak did something right for this region.
Romantic Outlaw I’m sad that my boy oshawott also got cut, but overalls, james turner (the new art director) does have some pretty solid design concepts, like: - poipole - golett and golurk - Shadow lugia - phantump and trevenant
Loved everything about this video. I love how it moved a lot and all the redesigns look really good! It looks like you’ve learned a lot from skillshare
