Pro tip, get three clamps, weld chains to them and attach to a ring. Clamp to the outer ring and pull on the ring with a come along to engage the oring. Have a great day.

A machine just like that dropped its forks and nearly hit my colleague right in front of me. I believe something caught up the chain then it suddenly released. Stay well clear

No doubt Howee's has experienced this, so I guess the heads-up is for the next guy. While going flat it's possible for a tire to turn from its original location with the wheel. Meanwhile the outboard rings will stay "timed" with the tire. Be sure the mating parts are correctly "clocked" during inflation. If the mentioned "anti rotation lugs" don't land correctly things can become bent and miserable to separate/straighten. Best luck with your flat repairs

A length of hose, rope, whatever, packed into the gap will help to hold air well enough for the sidewall to begin to swell. Once the sidewall begins to swell it will push the ring outboard, closing the gap more, and things will be underway.

One trick that works for me after you jack up the machine, take vice grips, clamp the onto the cinch ring, and use pry bars to pull the tire out to the o-ring👍🏼
@HOWEES
@HOWEES Месяц назад
The vise grips don't hold enough on these rings, you can see 2 chain links still welded to the ring from a previous time of doing the ring pull method.

That tire soap is no joke and wear eye protection when you are inflating the tire afterwards because the soap will burn like a SOME B if you get it in your eye. It took me about 2 days to get it all out and not be inflamed.

Im just wondering how many hours one or 2 people have to spend trying to air up tires before it justifies buying some decent used ones? Or if possible having the ones you have repaired. Those look like they have decent tread justcleak air im assuming.
@HOWEES
@HOWEES 2 месяца назад
They hold air for about 3-4 months no problem. We missed checking it this winter. In 10 years we miss catching a low tire 3 times, but it is a hassle. Machines we don't use regularly we put blocks under, but getting the blocks out to use the machine is almost impossible in the winter.
@charleywalker2982
@charleywalker2982 Месяц назад
It might be hard to do in the Alaskan climate but on the equipment I use once or twice a year with bad tires I put timbers underneath it to take the weight of the bad tires and the hold up better when they go flat. They would probably sink into the ground in Alaska if you tried that!!!😂
@HOWEES
@HOWEES Месяц назад
We do that for spare machines, but You can't just go use the machine in the cold once the blocks are holding it, if you keep it on the tires & inflated, you can use the machine during the winter.

I love your videos and get a lot of information out of them. I've been machining for about 5 years at home with 1 year of college experience. Do you have any advice on how to find a job in that career path, im as knowledgeable as most people that first graduate (quoted by professor mcearihan) but no one wants to hire me, any advice?
@HOWEES
@HOWEES Месяц назад
Getting a job is very location dependent. If jobs are not available in your area you will need to move. If the jobs are available, but they are just not letting you in the door, apply as a counter person, floor sweeper, anything. It is mush easier to get a better job in a plant, than it is to get through the front door, so pick the best door opener, at the local mine the best opener is haul truck driver(I've seen professional engineers get in the door by driving truck). Very important, some will bypass you because of friends, relatives, brown nosing, keep cool do not get mad, if you get mad your reputation will not be good, and you will never advance.

One forklift may have been able to help lift the rear more by parking it at the fork end and raising the 988's arms. lol Seriously, if desperate for lifting gear, but with enough cribbing available, the lift arms can be used to "teeter totter" the rear up.
