It is INSANE how much space you guys have. I think under the folks place (put on lot in 85'ish) there is maybe 12-18" of clearance and other spots a bit more. To get under there years ago at 145lbs I would have to shimmy using my ankles and arms to move fully horizontally. In one spot I had to curl into a ball to even turn around and make my way out towards the only exit.
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair

Most double Watts are put low to the ground. Don’t ask me why if I ever had to have one put on a lot like this one I would ask them to give me 3 to 3 1/2 feet at least space in case I had to ever get under there.

@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Yeah its crazy. My mom and dad were in the middle of building a family and I think my mom was home by herself when they put the home in. no one thought it would be a good idea to put the thing up a foot higher. When renovating a 1984 mobile home, do you suggest using insulation in the bathroom walls? Some form of sound barrier? For the underpinning - just saw the 10 most old video about the wooden panels vs the traditional plastic. Which is more insulating? Aso, where does one find quality insulating windows for mobile homes? I'm near Raleigh. Doing my window shopping and getting an idea for pricing. BTW - I'd like y'all to reseal my roof this Spring :). I'll contact you you in January for an estimate.

Thank you so much for your videos. I moved in to my grandmother’s 2001 Clayton that had been empty for 7+ years. When we turned on the air conditioner this summer, the flooring began to soften all along one side. My husband is going to be replacing the subfloor (using your videos) along the side of the house with our kitchen and dining room on it. In your experience with handling mobile home cabinets, should we go ahead and buy new cabinets to put in when we take the old ones out to replace the subfloor beneath them? I’m just concerned about how sturdy the cabinets are when it comes to moving them around like that. Btw, thank you so much. He was a little concerned that it was the new A/C unit that he installed that caused our flooring issues. It’s kind of nice to see that this is a common problem when the trunk lines are left exposed.
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Год назад
When you turn on the air in a mobile home that’s been sitting. Empty for a while probably with animals living in it. We’re always going to have to replace the insulation. And the insulation around the pipe is probably going to be destroyed so when you turn on the air the condensation will create moisture under your house, which will cause floor damage. When you do do the floor, use a quality flooring like in Vantex or adventeck you see it in all my videos is the best. I’m glad our videos are helping with your problem. As far as I’m concerned yes, when you take out the cabinets they’re going to be junk. They are very hard to remove and when they do come out generally they fall apart they’re not made of much so I suggest replacing them with new ones for sure you’ll save a lot of headaches

If paper backed is used, which side goes against the floor and which faces the ground? Or, do you not recommend paper backed? What about the plastic that goes on top? Are you going to put the under belly plastic back? Or just leave it exposed??
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Год назад
Actually, the plastic is like a vapor barrier and after I remove the old insulation and the underbelly, I re-insulated the floor Joyce. Originally the floor joists are not insulated. All the insulation is laying in the underbelly I removed that and therefore I had to insulate the floor joist. There’s no real reason to put another vapor barrier under there as the vapor barrier is facing the floor already, so I’m gonna leave it like it is yes

How often the insulation should be replaced? If it gets wet will it still work after drying up?
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Год назад
Well, as far as I’m concerned, the insulation never goes bad. It is made of fiberglass I like insulation without a vapor barrier built-in in other words without the paper. If your fiberglass insulation gets wet in it, it will dry out and be fine. If I was working for an insurance company Because they always try to make that extra money they will always say if it gets wet, it’s no good replace it. Insurance company makes their money from getting jobs done whether it needs it or not if it’s my insulation and it hasn’t been walked on or laid in. I would probably keep it. If animals have been under there I would get rid of it. Wet or not wet. Sorry about the long answer. But if you are talking about your insulation, just barely got wet it will dry out. I’d like a dehumidifier in a single wide mobile home. I think it is detrimental to the Moisture
@naturewatcher7596
@naturewatcher7596 Год назад
@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Ok, thanks. Good to know. In my case it was dripping wet because of a leaking outside faucet into the underbelly, then it dried out, then after a couple of years our water filter dumped all its water in our carpeted closet and bedroom - it did dried out but the floor is bumpy now and probably should be replaced even if I don't notice any mold. Plus we have a rodent problem and I'm guessing that they live in the underfloor insulation, so it should be replaced some day, but how to keep rodents away from it?
@marcoandres8830
@marcoandres8830 Год назад
@naturewatcher7596 No, I don't know what this guy is talking about . If this type of insulation gets wet, it looses it's r value. So it's essentially worthless once it's wet. Fiberglass insulation cannot get wet and is known for other problems as well such as sagging. You will loose r value and your air conditioner will have to work more to cool your home and your energy bills will be high. I would recommend using a mineral wool which is fire and moisture resistant. And it doesn't sag.

What did you disinfect with to eliminate smell?

I bought something on Amazon. Some of it was liquid and I sprayed down everything and the other was a powder to absorb odor.

@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair What do you think about pointing an ozone generator down there? I had plumbing leaks and lots of water over a long period of time under my DW. Finally got it all dried out :-) Now working on getting rid of the smell.

I've seen some videos saying you need to have the paper side of insulation facing down and then some other video's people put it in facing the subfloor. Which is the right way?
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Год назад
The vapor barrier always faces inside. 1 exception mobile homes with and underbelly. The underbelly is a vapor barrier already and it’s hanging under the floor. To be honest I like faceless insulation no barrier. I think it’s useless.

@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair I see. Thank you. Your videos have been extremely helpful for me. I'm about to remodel a room in my trailer and I'm going to tear up some plywood I installed a year or so ago to install blocking all the way around like you do and put OSB down, then a water proof underlayment paper on top of that. Then use those tiger claws to hang the insulation from underneath the room and then install an underbelly. You're the best source of knowledge about these things. Appreciate the videos!
