Wonderful little ponies and riders. It’s fantastic to see so many enjoying the sport. I loved Eventing- I competed for just over 10 years; I started riding when I was 5. In regards to the adjustability and shifting of gears, it reminded me of something one of my trainers told me about cross country (my favorite phase to ride), “Cross Country is Dressage between the fences.”

I looked up some of the ponies I liked and some of them are registered as Irish Sport Horses. How come they are not registered as a pony breed?

That depends on the way horses are registered, and whether a breeding association has a separate pony registry. Here in Germany, if a normal normal sized horse has a foal that‘s to small for the normal registry, they‘re usually registered as “Small German Warmbloods“. But a lot of countries don‘t have this kind of registration set-up, often the horses are registered by breed, not by size, since the studbooks are usually closed, in contrast to most german ones. As far as I‘m aware, Ireland doesn’t have a separate studbook for pony-sized sport horses, so all of them are still registered as Irish Sport Horses. I hope I didn‘t word this to confusingly.
