I have like 500 hundred blu ray movies and about 300 hundred 4k movies I'm going to keep collecting I love to buy blu ray movies and 4k movies I love physical media and it will never go away 💯
@@mountainmonkey15 trust me it did but it because I love physical media I love buying blu ray movies and 4k movies and I will never stop buying them and physical media will never die never 💯
You should have left a few spaces at the end of each section otherwise when you purchase new disc’s you will have to move entire sections starting from the end of your collection.
Damn that is a very impressive collection! Re-organizing my DVDs/Bluray is always a daunting task. One recommendation I would make it to maybe leave a few gaps at the end of each letter so as you add to your collection you have a spot ready for them. Maybe on the more popular letters you mentioned (S, T, A, B, etc.) leave a larger gap than the less common letters (O, U, V, W, etc.). But then again you do not have much room for gaps haha. Well done!
I have my collection sorted by genre and then alphabetized within those sections. I’ve tried your way but I find it easier to find what I’m in the mood to watch if I have them by genre. Like “ok tonight I want to watch a horror film” - boom, go to the horror section and see what I have. Great collection though, keep it up!
Whoa dude. I thought I had a tonne of movies. This is an exceptional collection. And congrats on the channel growth. 20K man. That’s amazing. Well done.
I finally consolidated my collection into slim cases: single, doubles and multidisc cases, essentially doubling my capacity. Although most of new slim and super slim cases I bought are the DVD size, the Bluray inserts fit into them quite nicely, giving it a letterbox look to the covers. The slimmer spines read just fine, too. Bought colored cases too (matching them to graphics), clear and blacks (that i use mainly for Noir films). I also crafted movie collections into one multi case: The Omen, The Godfather, etc. Like you, I left the Criterion discs as they were, since the look nice and elegant. Only my big box sets and steelbooks get display real esrate. All in all, I like my stuff so much more now! Shelving is at a premium, so had to do it this way. I plastic recycled all my old cases, too!
I just came here to get some tips on cataloging and organizing movie collections and I absolutely flipped out when you said Bull Moose!!! I lived in Maine for 18 years but I moved away 16 years ago. I haven’t heard the name Bull Moose in 16 years!!! I’m so glad I found this video! Thanks for the advice and the memories! 💙💙💙
I alphabetised my collection the same way, although when a title started with a number, I translated into its word form, so 1917 for example is with n's.
Wow nice collection 👌😎👍!and a fun video I felt like I was there with all that work it's going to be crazy when we have V.R utube video then it will be really interesting!!! thanks for sharing I wish they would put more 80's movie's in 4K !!!
This is my introduction to your channel. I'm planning to start a movie collecting in the new year and this is good inspiration. I got a 4K TV and player for black Friday and I'm super excited to start a library.
@@JeffRauseo So far I have Batmans 89-97, Dark Knight Trilogy, Gremlins, Shining, The Simon Pegg/Edgar Wright Trilogy and baby drive. I still need to get my player but I have the TV ready. Are those good titles visually?
We buy dvd movies in bulk to resell individually. I asked my handyman husband to build me a big wood shelf to organize these dvd’s in alphabetical order. I have about 550 I recently organized on that shelf and it was a task. I had originally organized them horizontally but sat in my thinking chair in front of shelf and decided to stack them vertically on each shelf so I can read label better without turning my head sideways to read label. So I actually worked on it twice.
After trying to sort my collection alphabetically over the years I simply gave up. I now put every new movie I get onto a "current" shelf which I expand as required. Each "shelf" holds about 25 movies and each shelf is alphabetized independently, plus each shelf is uniquely named. The whole thing is wrapped in a "MyMovies" collection with the location of each disc noted. My collection is 3,211 discs (split between BD and DVD). Now I never have to shuffle and rearrange discs. Sweet. Plus, the whole thing is on my phone AND online so it is always instantly accessible. And my shelf names have nothing to do with movies or movie genres- names are arbitrary. It works. It just works. I do, however, make an attempt to give "shelf" names an alphabetical system. For instance my oldest shelf names are in the "A's", and so on. I've culled quite a bit from my original size (5,000+) so I doubt I will ever run out of names. Plus, at 75 I won't be picking up that many new releases.
Ever thought about using those thin library plastic card book dividers with letters on it so you can see where one letter begins and the other ends? It seems like that would help
I'm a low key collector. Im close to 2000. When I hit 1000 movies. I went to binders. I saved the artwork. I have 11 binders separated by genre and alphabetically. The only issue is reorganization when I have new movies. So I've decided to wait till a binder is full to integrate later purchased movies.
You should digitize your collection and build yourself a plex server! You can still keep your DVD's, or sell what you don't watch anymore, but still have a digital copy in your plex.
That becomes difficult when you start getting into the 4k movies. The amount of storage space needed for that would be astronomical unless you downscale the data. In that case, what's the point?
Your method is very similar to mine. I still like breaking up genres, so like animation, comedy, action, horror, drama, fantasy. Needless to say, the action section is huge lol.
I've done this project myself and man it's a chore but so worth it. I also had my Criterions by spine number for years and as my collection grew I could just never find anything quickly so I caved this year and alphabetized them.
All ours are in numerical and alphabetical order .have very limited space here so we chose to go with cases that hold hanging sleeves .went from over stacked bookshelves to three cases one disc per sleeve with movie art on other side plus each case holds 1.000 when full and are way easier to put new movies in correct order .i know many are into keeping the orginal packaging but I never plan on selling .plus will be an easy move to a bigger place 3 cases compared to boxes of movies .major win on that one
Great video .looks good that you finally alphabetized your collection. I have my collection the same way. But have my 3d collection and tv shows separated but still alphabetized as well
I have a large music collection (CDs, Cassettes) and you need gaps so it can expand dynamically. You don't want to shuffle EVERYTHING to fit in new movies that you purchase.
Dude I did the same thing earlier this year. I alphabetized right down to the final letter. While my collection is probably 1/4 the size of yours, it was a massive undertaking. My eyes, legs, back, and brain were spent afterwards. Fun and rewarding experience though.
I have so many thousands of discs I had to go drastic to get a hold of it (or move to a larger house lol). I bought a ton of Case Logic CD binders and put all of my cds, and all of my DVDs into these, recycling the cases. Drastic for sure but now my blu-ray and 4k section is still crazy but not ridiculously hoarder lol. Each binder holds over 300 discs and 20 binders fit on the shelf pretty well. Heh I put the remaining discs in piles of A, B, C etc just like you, except I left space on each shelf for new additions.
Lol that's funny people actually complain about a room and a collection that's not theirs. That's quite an awesome collection bro love it. I just started myself so most of mine are 4k if I had to take a guess I'm sitting around 200 movies but I'll get there ha. Thanks for video.
I organize my collection by editors. Warner/Paramount/Fox/Universal/Disney/Sony/MGM and so on. But I used to work in this sector so it's easier for me to find a movie from its studio and easier to organize ^^
It is a funny phenomenon that so many movies start with S. It's the same with my music collection, there's way more bands starting with S than any other letter. I wonder why that is...
Good question: it's one we with large collections have to deal with sooner or later. I try to leave extra space for each letter, enough for say 5 to 10 standard cases depending on the popularity of the letter (more room in S than in Z, for example). If you're still obtaining a lot of discs for your collection , you will have to face the fact that a major reorganization will be necessary every few years, ugh.
@@juliemiles2834 yea I asked because I to want to alphabetize my movies but I collect every Tuesday and new movies cause problems. On the other end seeing a 5-10 gap space for new movies will drive me nuts.
Am currently sorting through my collection, but am doing them by genre, only other rule is am keeping series, sequels, reboots, and all that together even if I think they are classed as a different genre (e.g. the original jumanji I put in classic films, but the newer ones I would class as family genre but I've kept them with the original so they are all in classics) just the weird way I'm sorting them out on the shelf.
My collection isn't as big as yours, I'm only somewhere in the 1900s, I would like your opinion on a potential organization method I've been contemplating for a long time now. DVD binders. But not just any 3 ring binders, I'm thinking the Bellagio-Italia Tuscany storage binders from Amazon. They would look like Olde Timey leather books, but hold up to 96 movies each. The initial organization would be expensive, about $600 (the books don't come with enough sleeves for 96 discs and I'd get a few extra books so that each book isn't jammed full), but I think the end result would look fantastic. I'm a fan of old style libraries full of leather bound books. I love the thought of having blu-ray shelves like yours organized alphabetically or even by genre, but I don't have the wall space for four shelf sets (assuming each shelf set holds 600ish dvd/blurays). Plus as I acquire more physical media I would have to constantly be moving potentially a thousand blu-ray cases to put it in its proper alphabetical place (although this is mitigatable by including some extra space on each shelf). Whereas if I use the binder method, the best that happens is I move one disk, the most likely thing to happen is I have to add a sleeve page, and the worst case scenario is I buy another book and move a few older books. But it would all be contained in one book case. The empty cases can be packed into moving boxes and put in the attic or other storage space. Steelbooks, Criterion or other cases that I like could be kept out on display. I would lose the ability to casually browse the shelves for something that catches my eye to watch or to see if I own the video; although I already use CLZ to keep track of what movies are in my collection, so this isn't a deal breaker. Any thoughts?
Watched, The Girl with all the Gifts, again tonight before watching your clip. Movie arranging is challenging. I have all my Blu-rays (and 4K) in alphabetical order and separately, all DVD's in alphabetical order. However, box sets and television series in different area again. My cases are 2 deep, so adds to the challenge of putting them in order. However, only got about half of what you appear to have. I enjoy the aspect of physical collecting and have a really eclectic collection but some titles have become harder to find and some big online retailers are reluctant to ship to where I live, New Zealand. All the best with your collection, particularly with finding those rare titles and bargains.
i have my films by genre then in alphabetical order. the only thing not by genre are my criterion collection titles. i have considered pulling the arrow and possibly a couple other boutique labels and keeping them together like i do criterion. I probably have 1500-2000 but have been keeping them in order for long enough that it isn't too hard. i used to have to sell movies when i got sick of them or didn't like so much so i could buy more. i luckily don't need to do that any more or my collection would be 4000-5000 titles probably. lol.
Great video. I arranged my movie collection into alphabetical too, so much easier when i go straight for a particular film now and even when i add new films, its not that much of a job or hard to shuffle the collection down to work a new title in like ppl are making out, doesn't take me long anyway. I have all my boxsets together too and that includes say like a sly stallone boxset with demolition man/tango&cash/cobra, i just keep that with boxsets, then i keep all my arrow, eureka, 88films etc films together..then from there it goes to numbers (3:10 to yuma etc) then into alphabetical. The only difference that i do is, is the films that begin with THE, like THE BLUES BROTHERS or THE LOST BOYS, ill list those under 'T' instead of 'B' and 'L'. When i upgrade a few of my favourite films to 4k, which i intend to do shortly, im gonna keep them separate i think, but still in order, just on another shelf i think👍
I’d go crazy if I didn’t alphabetize. I have about 3,000 now, down from about 7,000. I have genre sections and then special collections together (Marvel, Star Wars, Hitchcock, etc.) but always alphabetical otherwise. And then I leave space on each shelf for a few additions later. Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed it. Happy holidays!
I have a lot of blurays like you, but I organize them by genre and then within that genre I alphabetize. I try not to mix the genres, because I watch movies almost every day, and I do it based on my mood. I also get a lot of new movies and I'd find it be a big hassle to move the collection each time I get a new movie. I do separate the Criterions, Arrow, Scream Factory, Kino Lorber, Synapse, etc as well though.
OMG I remember doing this when we had to paint our media room had to take them all off the shelves uuggh I did the same thing you did in piles As Bs Cs etc took all day but things we collects have to do 😣😩😏
I REALLY hope you got great insurance in case of a fire ..& have a great security system for your house as well..Nice Collection..Have a great Christmas & New Years.
nice collection man.I used to collect physical copies of movies but now i got about 6 hard drives in my computer and went digital.I love the fact I don't have to get off the couch/chair to find a certain movie since everything is on my computer and super easy to find.
Yeah, it probably is best to get creative with the alphabetizing in a way that works for you. For example, rather than alphabetizing them each by their actual title, I just file the entire Evil Dead series together under "E" for "Evil Dead" and put them in chronological order (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, then Army of Darkness, then Ash vs. Evil Dead season 1,2,3)
You should also organize your collection not just by Alphabetizing but by also Alphabetizing by genre. Take sci-fi movies for instance After Earth, Alien, Aliens, Alien Ressurection , Alien vs predator, Alita battle angel, Allegiant, Andromeda , Annihilation , Arrival , Avatar ,Back to the future, Blade Runner, Blade runner 2049 ,Book of Eli , Caprica ,Chappie ,Dawn of the planet of the apes, District 9 , Divergent, Dune , Elysium , E.T. , Ghost in the shell , Godzilla, Hunger Games, I am Legend, Insurgent, I Robot, Maze runner, Jupiter ascending, Kong skull island, Reel steel, Rogue One , Short circuit, Solo , Source Code , Stargate, Star Trek , Star wars, Stealth , Terminator Transformers, Tremors .
I have the individual releases of the Sean Connery Bond films, so I just put them under "J" (for James Bond), so that the matching spines are all together.
@FilmsAtHome Dude I need to get some shelves like yours 2,500 damn I have like around 800 to 1,000 Blu-rays I know its a headache trying organize every movie but that’s the beauty of it sometimes I’m surprised to see some Blu-rays that I don’t even know I bought!
Jeff want to wish a great christmas. This is how i arrange my collection and i dont have any problems looking for stuff. I created a master list in my PC. Since i used the same kind of shelving i give each shelve a code. I have two different shelves cause after a while they stop making them. So i have these wire shelving which i have 6 of them. So i code them BS1 BS2 and so on also i put in which shelve they are on. Like i might have Smokey and the bandit would be like this Smokey and the bandit BS1 S5. I dont separate by genre. Now the other shelves whichh i have 8 those are media center shelves. If i am looking for alien that would be MC2 S3. I dont keep movie collection boxes the only ones i keep star wars and the pink panther collection. For all others i buy bluray boxes and i make my own labels. It's simple and it works for me.
My collection is organised by distributor, age rating and series/genre if possible in that order (doesn’t always work... Steel books sit in age rating)
i sort by genre & alphabetical.i make a few exceptions for certain actors/directors etc.. charles bronson , stephen king, jackie chan among others get their own section.
I do mine by genre and a few different other ways by like box sets and tv shows. I have a lot but not that many that's a nice collection. Do you get most for free for your channel or did you buy a lot of those?
I put all the movies that start with a in the a's. I put all the movies that start with the, in the t's. I know it's an uncommon opinion but i prefer it like that.
Do you use the digital codes that come with the movies? There are tons of Facebook groups dedicated to selling digital codes. Some people buy blu-rays in bulk just to sell the codes. It's strange but It's good to know you can make some money back if you don't use the codes yourself.
I have an idea that i seem to think i have a lot media myself dvd and some blu ray combo by chance. but seeing videos of others collection, shows me i have way less even though i try purge any if not care keep any old for any reason so i can get new or used and watchable anytime later. but yea can see just doing by all a's and then b's and so on cause if alphabetical just take longer i think. so doing by letter is easier and go for certain movie helps u know if what u wanna see can find faster and if not got by chance then just gotta get next trip out if can.
WOW!!! I use a 7 foot high, 4-sided, Media Tower that holds all 600 of my DVD's/Blue Rays/4K's in a 2 foot square of floor space...I am at a point where I am going to get a SECOND tower that will split my collection. One tower will be DVD, alphabetized-the other Blue Ray & 4K alphabetized...the total that can be held is close to 1200 movies! All not taking up more than 4 feet of floor space.....I wish I could show a pic here.....
Oh! Ok. Your man cave looked similar. I should send you a picture of my collection. Over 600 Blu-rays and over 500 dvds. Thanks man for cool videos. Physical media forever. Watching “Home Alone” with kids streaming on Disney plus, and crap compared to my blu ray.
