2:34 oh wow i never paid attention but this is intentional. idk if it's mentioned in the anime but ground dragons all have a divine protection that lets any vehicle connected to them experience no turbulence. it was important in the final confrontation with petelgeuse (he got caught in the barrier between the outside and the divine protection influence which got him stuck in the carriage's wheel and shredded) so yeah, very cool :)
31:05 You are absolutely right! No one brought up Rem in those episodes because the event had already happened. And it's also why the letter was blank. Because the letter was written by Rem, and all traces of that person existing vanishes when Authority of Gluttony erases them from the world's memory.
Btw even in real life it's possible to reattach limbs if its preserved properly and attached back in time. Felix being the best in the kingdom and possibly world at healing magic is easily able to reattach them.
Starting off episode 1 of S2 with pure pain. My boy Regulus is here. And he's ready to rant. And rant. And rant some more. And if you even think of interrupting him, you must be eliminated for trying to take away his rights
I heard Rem was supposed to write the letter to Emilia but because Gluttony ate her Name everything related to her disappeared, so the letter she wrote became a blank letter and Rem was named Rem because of Random Eye Movement when you're in deep sleep.
bruh i read the light novel of arc 3 completely and watched the anime countless times and still didn't know why the letter was blank. that makes SO much sense thank you
Huh. I had heard from someone that a certain person was who arranged the letter to be switched, but I never considered the timing of when Rem would have been nom'd. Dang. I have seen Re:Zero at least 20 times, so how did I never figure out the timing.... 😢
25:00, season 1 episode 18. I'll save you the effort of going back to the episode. Puck said "The fog is coming closer. It looks like a troublesome one has been drawn here. Gluttony. Oh, I suppose they call it the White Whale now." happens before Subaru dies frozen throughout and laughing like a madman.
Season 1 is good, but season 2 is a masterpiece and is what made Re: Zero one of my favorite anime, and emilia one of my favorite characters. It also made me appreciate season 1 way more due to Subaru character growth. You guys are going to love this season, I don’t want to spoil anything, let’s just say it’s amazing.
22:15 Tappei (Re:Zero author) wrote some "what if" stories where Subaru makes different choices from the canon events. Each one is named after a sin. The Sloth IF story is "what if Rem and Subaru actually ran away together." The images we see are from that story.
which i find kinda odd since those memories were never going to exist in her current life, right? i also wondered if gluttony ate and could see people's future memories but I'm currently reading through arc 6 so please don't spoil anything if you know
@@lucy5948 i think you're confused about what canon and uncanon is. the author wrote the if stories as side routes that subaru COULD'VE taken, meaning they aren't actually what happened, making them uncanon but written by the official author. he hasn't taken the stories down i think and does them every year for subaru's birthday. the main storyline is the canon. the ex volumes are still part of the main storyline so they're canon too. the if stories are uncanon what if's.
There is just so much going on in this season, now that we've been properly introduced to the protagonists and major players, that this season is definitely an emotional one. There are so many times I had to run for the tissues while watching this season.
@@jeffdrake5881 Spoilers to those who haven't seen the entirety of season 2: When he started remembering his past deaths while being kept in captivity and started smashing his head against the floor, i was like "this is Re Zero" and at that time i didn't even know this was just the beginning of his suffering in the Sanctuary, he is going to see everyone die in front of him, he will get eaten, he will see everyone in the mansion get killed, he will see Beatrice get killed, he will be thrown to Rabbits by Roswaal, he will get sandwiched between two witches and forced to commit suicide and worst of all BEHOLD AN UNTHINKABLE PRESENT
@@fallendown8828spoilers for season 2 and light novels for season 2/arc 4: The captivity was way worse in the novels and made me feel much more sick than any of those deaths. Gore is one thing, constant flashbacks and planning suicide while so unable to move for being tied up that he tried to bite his tongue off and never managed it when the gag was removed to feed him? It was far worse. After reading it I honestly think Garfiel doing all that was the biggest reason Subaru got into the not trying to save everyone in one go/throwing his life away for like test loops or something. He was force fed by a Ryuzu clone with just the gag removed.
17:21 in the novel source material he is suicidal at this point but they didn't have enough time in the anime so they made those scenes which explains a lot without a word so i think it is a good touch
Regarding memory loss, a sign of dementia and memory loss is that they just go along with everything. They ARE confused, but more embarrassed to admit that, so they just go with the flow and give succinct yes/no answers (often yes) rather than explaining their thoughts. Or someone with a concussion. They are very suggestible. It's obviously more complex than that. Like if you keep telling someone with dementia "no" or arguing with them, they'll quickly become agitated. So you just lie (agree) or skirt/redirect around the topic. So while you can't make them do anything by just saying it, you can manipulate them much more easily. This is why they are such easy targets for scammers.
But injuries and illness affecting the brain are really diverse. I used to relate to a lot of DID traits and then also have cptsd(although I hate all the subcategories in psychology for these things like cptsd is kind of like a positively framed version of bpd with the focus on relationships switched for emotional regulation type stuff) and flashbacks which are unprocessed memories don't just involve reliving events completely but also emotionally re experiencing while having the awareness of your current events/reality. And dissociative amnesia also fits in that it's complicated. You can completely suppress memories, have an understanding in terms of facts that happened at the time without any of the feeling of it happening to you etc. Dementia affects far more of the brain than other things which cause amnesia, tbh I think physical injuries, diseases and so on don't apply to this as well as things considered psychological, not that they're at all differentiable anyway and mental illnesses, personality disorders etc can produce symptoms like panic attacks or changes to senses which aren't limited to the brain, however many types of dementia affect the functioning of neurons in a very widespread way.
Tldr: in thinking about how people react without memories due to something magical, it's analogous to the sorts of case studies which are much more generalisable within neuroscience yet much rarer to be able to carry out, where a patient had very isolated brain damage sometimes due to strokes and it allows the role of that region to be studied without extra variables. Dementia is the opposite of that, it's much more likely to affect multiple regions with different functions.
2:33 The Carriage ride was so smoothe because all ground dragons have the Divine Protection of Wind Evasion, which nullifies wind resistance and reduces shock from running. Also an important detail that the subtitles miss is that The Sin Archbishop of Gluttony exclusively uses plural first-person pronouns, eg. "We/Us/Our", even when a singular first-person pronoun like "I" would be more appropriate.
This season is great! Definitely lower production quality sadly due to Covid and the studios issues, but still a great season narrative wise. Luckily s3 looks back to form on the animation side of things
I still have my doubts about s3 since the trailer was preanimated; plus White Fox is animating another 30+ episodes long show at the same time, and it’s definitely not the kind of studio that can afford doing that usually. Hoping for the best tho.
@@sasy11110 i'm sure they will have to go crazy animating some parts as arc 5 has a lot of action scenes compared to arc 4. if the fights is not what they want to focus on, the light novel will remain the complete superior version of the story. they keep skipping out on major story elements in the anime version and it's gonna bite them in the ass later if they don't fix that
@@tutterthemouse152 Eh, not like they can fix much at this point, some of the damage done to the narrative by skipping content is pretty much irreparable. Because of that, the only thing I care about now is s3 being a good watching experience.
@@sasy11110 if the second season was rushed by kadokawa, the third season has been in production for quite a long time, and the situation with covid has improved. i dont see any reason to doubt. also, that other anime is handled by a completely different staff. and they won't be released at the same time
@@iuodsupiwpiwpoipoiqpwi Yeah, but the long-term damage that s1 and partly s1 did to the anime continuity won’t be repaired no matter how good s3 is. They skipped too much important stuff that only made sense in the context it was part of, so they can’t even reintegrate said content in later parts of the anime.
Super happy to see that you guys caught the few frames after Lye attacks Rem. Not many reactors I've watched have caught that, which is fair since it's so quick, but it's a super neat detail put in by the animators (a nod to the Re:Zero IF spinoff stories)
Btw, 17:26 I believe the novel has Subaru RBD in this room, when they first beought her in, rather than out in the yard. I heard that was why that knife is on a plate next to the bed.
it's crazy how this amazing series will continue until approximately april 3rd where they will watch the final episode of season 2. hopefully by then, season 3 will be getting closer and closer. i kinda feel like it will be a summer release based on arc 5's setting but it's not like they have to release horror movies only in October so i hope it will be somewhere earlier so that they can continue to react immediately after ending season 2. i absolutely cannot wait to hear ANYTHING about season 3. if this covers arc 5 AND 6, our eyes will be blessed with peak fiction
No sé cómo les va a los demás espectadores, pero a mí me encanta cuando hablan de paralelismos con sus vidas al momento de contar eventos de cada capítulo. Los amo ❤ son de lo mejor reaccionando y comentando 😊
There are going to be so many fantastic post episode discussions this season I can't wait! Since you guys enjoyed AoT in 9 minutes by Gigguk you should consider checking out Re:Zero in 8 min
I'm so used to folks reacting to the Director's Cut, which has the "Who's Rem?" at the end of season 1's last episode, this reaction caught me a little offguard. Lolz
17:20 I may be confusing with another scene because there was a long time since i read it, but in the novel Subaru actually end himself again in that room. I don't know why they switch for just showing the knife in the anime.
They exchange that scene with the one in which he commits suicide after finding Rem, so they delete that one and added that other one. The knife is just a reference to that scene you mentioned and it was a really nice choice, there are some interesting dynamics that are gained by that change.
ye it's funny just how little worldbuilding there was in the first 3 full arcs. it was way more of a character focus and study and arc 4 still is, but it also goes way more in-depth about so many mechanics in the show
First of all, I can't speak English. But I'm glad you both watched the second season of Re:Zero^^ The first episode of Season 2 is sad because Crusch and Rem are unable to get back together. I wonder when it will go back. In particular, the original author Tappei Nagatsuki was cruel in letting Rem drop out. Mr. Tappei Nagatsuki seems to be a genius at thinking of cruel things. Also, I'm often told that I'm a genius at writing. The original work of Re:Zero is a web novel. Also, the Witch Cult Sin Bishop is too strong. Season 2 is a little difficult to understand, but I think you two can understand it. And it seems that Season 3 is likely to be broadcast in the winter or spring of 2024.
someone'll have said it but PFT to that I like giving bits of info Subaru's suicide by Rem's side takes place at her bedside in the LN's, that's one of the reasons why they linger on the knife and the apple as that's the thing he used to kill himself before, and worst of all Satella makes it so that the restart point is RIGHT BEFORE he plunges the knife in his throat. As others have said it would've been impossible as Rem and the convoy were attacked shortly after separating from Subaru and the others, as soon as the restart point was updated it was too late. And my personal feelings on it, Satella did that out of annoyance at Rem getting closer to Subaru, we see a similar thing happening in the coming Season 3 - and that OH dear is that a worse one than this.
One question you guys need to ask yourselves is, what are Mabeasts? Why are they different from regular animals? This is very important to figuring out their origins.
Didn't Puck say he can "kind of read Subaru's mind/feelings" or something along those lines? Back at the mansion arc. That would explain how he could tell Rem was supposed to be somehow connected to himself and have an idea that he didn't remember her because of gluttony. Also, so far I think the only times Subaru willingly k### himself was both times when Rem died (the cliff scene) and here. I don't remember any other instances ...?
He was successful these two times but he did try to die others times as well such as when RBD killed Emilia and he asked Beako to kill him since he was to depressed to do it himself
That about Puck is a way too literal way to take his words. He actually said something like he didn't feel any malice or hidden intentions from Subaru, and then he says that he can "read" his mind in the sense that it is too easy to know what he is thinking.
Important cut content from Novel : After the meeting, Wilhelm revealed to just Subaru a secret of his. He showed Subaru a scar on his chest, and it's quite unique as it was inflicted by a special sword. The scar itself was unique as well, as it would start opening up and bleeding the more Wilhelm got closer to the enemy, or the enemy who inflicted it on him got closer to him. Interestingly and surprisingly, Wilhelm revealed that this scar was inflicted on him by none other than his wife Theresia Van Astrea who is supposed to be dead, and yet the wound has started opening up after all these years🤔.
I don't know if you had heard, but there is a director's cut of season 1, and the 'who's rem' was said at the end of the first season in the director's cut.
Because he has proven he is trustworthy, they have 2 spirits that can detect emotions. And he is griefing so they don't want to bother him. As well as strange abilities aren't uncommon. The only one to ever truly be suspicious is Rem but that wasn't even her job
I hope I don't overstep my boundaries but the future Rem that we see when Rye eats her memory and name, is actually a glimpse in a Light Novel What if, which is where Rem agree to go with Subaru and run away during the Betelgeuse stuff. Another fun fact, much like Betelgeuse, and Subaru these two Arch-Bishops are named after Celestial Bodies.
@@TrinitytheApostle I haven't read arc 5 (I am an anime only, who is just aware of the details in the LNs) so I have no clue, that's funny that I said something spoliery without knowing it lol
@TrinitytheApostle Ya know, I'm caught up on the LNs, and I totally spaced on the constellation thing. Thinking back, I doubt it would inform much of anything, considering the context. If I had known thus before reading that part, I would have just thought, "Oh, cool!"
@@isuckateverythingbutistill3382 I'm anime only as well, but it's suspicious how they are named after constellations from OUR world, how would they know about constellations from another world?
Not sure if this has been stated or not, and I know they don’t look at comments, but the real reason that Subaru tells Emilia about the stuff with rem is because, after the whale fight, Rem kinda forced a confession out of Subaru, but he meant it. To Subaru, Rem is just as important to him as Emilia, the only difference being that Emilia is the one he chooses to pursue. So, he explains to Emilia that Rem confessed, and he reciprocated the feeling, to which we get the whole “Who’s Rem” thing.
And this isn’t some, oh he loves her like he loves Betty deal, like, ROMANTICALLY loves her, yet even so, he chooses Emilia. They are both on equal standing, he loves them both equally, again, to a romantic extent
return by death is an authority owned by satella, the witch of envy so it's not a blessing and subaru doesn't directly possess it but even if he did, the white whale couldn't tamper with it. the white whale's fog ability is different as in it erases every trace of your existence, while gluttony's can erase the name, memories or both. this doesn't erase their physical bodies like the white whale does. also, crusch's blessing does remain since it's not tied to her memories. it's something she was born with which is why she still makes unclouded decisions

4:14 Actually he was going to tell her that he likes Rem and that he also likes her and that he wants Rem by his side too cause he promised her. The manga made that clearer. The last scene between him and Rem in the manga sounded more like a marriage proposal :)
Likely cut due to being not super necessary to plot and due to uncertainty of future seasons so leaving the possibility open when in reality based on author's words likely won't actually happen
That's quite a lot of contrarian rambling about memory loss. If you don't have memories, you know nothing and has to rely on others, it's not difficult.
@@bryangarcia5207Is that made clearer in the light novel? Because Felis' reaction and the way Wilhelm is consoling him make it seem like she's already dead, but I could just be misinterpreting the scene.
"BC of Emilia" Genius, Rem got eaten in 2014, when percentage of remfags in community was extremely low. You're literally blaming other character for Rem being simply useless in plot and weak.
@@maamekonaduamankwah-awuah4969she is weak in the grand scheme of the world. Barely Crusch and Frederica level. Which is indeed low. She can barely take out a few low pevel mabeasts and cultists. And she wasn't taken out of the stroy for Emilia. Emilia in S1 was taken out of the story for Rem. When Rem got axes she wasn't as popular as the anime hadn't even been released
Rem wasn't taken out or something she was victim to a tragedy which becomes a focus and constantly explored throughout the coming arcs. Even though she's asleep she's essentially developed as a character. The impact she has on the choices every other character she knew made is highlighted, from Petra to Frederica, Ram, Subaru. And that's even though she literally barely made relationships out of work.
