This is a great series and another season is in the works as well..this guys does a great job portraying the character as well...way better than the movies that tom cruise made.
Reacher is in my opinion one of the best page to screen adaptations ever made. I've read the entire book series and was hyped as hell when I heard who they cast. It definitely did not disappoint.
It's been a while since i've read Lee Child's series, but Alan Ritchson is pretty spot on. Very direct, observant, intimidating, and funny when he wants to be. Can't wait to see the next one
@@robertpower8374i believe Amos is smart, though it seems mostly street smart, but Reacher has that almost sort of psychic type way of observing things like Sherlock does. Great character.
Reacher did not "block a punch with his face." If you watch more closely, he actually head-butted the incoming fist, and we've already seen the damage that Jack can do with a head-butt.
Lee Child, the author of the Reacher books and one of the exec producers, was bummed when the first season was over because Reacher would be leaving these characters behind....never to see them again. He loved how the characters of Roscoe and Finley were portrayed and wished he could include them in the next season. Who knows. I guess we wait and see if they pop up again. I need to see more of Roscoe. She was a bad-ass character.
In the books, Jack Reacher states that when you are in a fight to the death, you should fight for any advantage you can get. This includes surprising them by striking in the middle of the count, never throwing your weapon away when your opponent loses theirs (as the hero does in every Hollywood film), and using your head, elbows and any other hard surface in a fight.
The fact that they DIDN'T get romantic in this episode was such a good decision for the story. The story is structured well, and I LOVE the way these actors portray it.
its unfortante these companys dont see how these reactors bring them people to watch there shows ... all this DMCA stuff going on ruins it for youtube.. i also watched the whole season this week once i seen them post the first episode :D..
@@donovansouders4821 Ya I watched Black Sails because Nikki and Steven did and boy am I glad I did. The big studios can defend their copyright without being total dicks about it. It brings new exposure to properties that have faded from the public consciousness and adds hype to new ones.
I feel like this show did not get nearly enough hype. It's so gripping, with great characters, a really intriguing mystery, fantastic action scenes, and the casting is absolutely spot on: everyone is pretty much perfect for their roles. As far as I'm concerned, the show makes the Tom Cruise movie seem so forgettable in comparison. I think I've only seen 1 or 2 other channels react to it, and it's a damn shame, because it's such a great show. Can't wait to see the reactions to the rest of the season, if anything it gets even better!
10:24 He didn't throw his face into it, he did the top of the forehead. It's an old street fighter/boxing trick. That is the hardest part of the body, especially in relation to a hand and will almost always break the bones in the hand if you hit it right.
Alan R is also a SINGER , American Idol is where he got his start in show business! He sang on and ep of Titans (he was Hawk and loved him) and his voice is fabulous. 🔥🔥 Just looked and Holy shiiiiiite you had 125K views on Ep 1 ??!? That is crazy I didn’t know how popular it was either. Granted it was a well-received show and no one else has reacted to it. So you have the monopoly, congrats!
I love the way he drops his head to meet the punch because it makes a LOT of sense as the part of the skull just above the forehead is the hardest part of a human body
Reacher is just spectacular : the movies were fun, the series is awesome (and I'm glad they found a more appropriately sized Reacher) and the novels are just as good. Lee Child is a fantastic writer.
This series is awesome, and I am glad to see you're finding success with it on RU-vid. I think it's partly because of the fact that not many people have reacted to the show in general for some reason. Alan Ritchson is a beast of a man but has great comedic acting in his repertoire. He was great in Titans and Blue Mountain State.
Remember Reacher is used to command. As a leader of the best MP section in the Marines he's got to have some skills right. I love that Lee Childs is a British writer we spend years in British television for decades beng part of the production team and was involved in some very prestigious shows... So it's no wonder his character writing is great and his dialogue is short and sharp and to the point. I think this adaptation does a wonderful job of bringing the book to life. I've read it 3 times since I started reading Reacher books about 15 years ago and I reconized al hte beats in it. Goodness Peaky Blnders and now Reacher.... and I still have SoA to watch... I've loved all of these shows. So glad you are too..
FYI. Filming is complete on Season 2 of "Reacher". There are currently 27 "Reacher" books out. The 28th is due in October. Each season covers one book. BUT, they will not film in the order the books were written. Although, Season one is the first book, season two is not the second book. FYI, In episode 8, the last one. At the end, as Reacher walks into the diner, the person walking out (as tall as Reacher, but much thinner ) that's the author, Jim Grant, he uses the pen name Lee Child. He's British. But has lived in the US for more than 30 years.
If you like reading books, In the same vein as Reacher, read "Without Remorse" by Tom Clancy. The movie has nothing to do with the book. The book is 768 pages, so read the story line to see if it interests you. RU-vid has the audio-book of Without remorse. So you can listen while driving your car.
When this came out, I planned to watch the first coupla episodes. Instead I got to bed at 3:00am after binging the whole season. Just couldn’t stop. 😏 So glad you guys are reacting to it… let’s me relive the fun. 👍🏼
I watched this when it first came out. It seems like its been a minute now. I'm glad you guys are watching this, I loved this series and will enjoy rewatching this with you. I am really hoping that there will be a season 2, this is really well done and deserves many more seasons.
He already has filmed Season 2, so i am thrilled to see the new season 😃😱😁 And yeah, you will love the first season, it was so incredible fun to watch it, now i kind of rewach it with you 😃✌🏼
Finley and Reacher gave me some Riggs and Murtaugh vibes at some point. I loved it. It's that kind of old school thing you mentioned. Reacher is a nice old school, could have happened in the 80s, Show. In her mind, Roscoe is minimum the height Reacher is, and she has big balls, without being am Mary Sue. I really like all the characters.
Alan Ritchson also played Hawk on the show Titans. This show is so good. The whole who done it and who's behind it plot is really good and made me binge this show when it came out. I couldn't wait to watch the next episode. I've watched the season 3 times now it's so good. Love the reaction. Can't wait for more!
This is my top go to series when there's nothing else on worth watching. I've seen the first season three times, the second season twice and I can't wait for the third season. I love this show.
NOW we're talking! So impressed you two are into Reacher'. Awesome series. Far more authentic and faithful to the original concept than Cruise's oeuvre. Though he did good with his limitations.
I've watched this three times and it never fails that I see or pick up on something new. I enjoy seeing what others take from shows and see what they see. Great reaction.. Oh.. and he pushed into that punch to lessen the throw and the force.. no one expects you to move in.. it goes against human nature and it makes for a heck of a surprise when you do. SFMF
yeah he moved in, but also he looked down to make the dude hit pretty much the hardest part of the human body.... the skull cap above the forehead where there are few nerves and the thickest part of the skull.
@@nexus.shadow Ya there was a good chance that kid broke his knuckles on Reacher's skull. Reacher prefers to throw elbows for that reason as well. Elbows are one of the hardest spots on the body and won't break like knuckles will.
Before watching Reacher I was like this dude is familiar, and then I realised he appeared in Catching Fire as one of the tributes =)) Gloss from district 1
Terrific show. Whenn it came out last year I ended up binging the whole thing at once, and not intentionally. Each episode flowed into the next so easily before I knew it, I'd watched the whole damn thing. Like a super entertaining long movie.
I think the guy playing Reacher should be a huge star in the coming years. I’ve only seen him in like 2 or 3 things but he’s been pretty solid in all of them. I could see him being a big action star like this generation’s Arnold Schwarzenegger but with better acting chops. Everything I’ve seen him in he’s played very different characters so he’s got a good range for acting, but I think characters like this is where he could really shine. He’s huge, he’s a good looking guy, he can do that cheeky deadpan humor, he’s able to do excellent fight choreography, he can play the cautious romantic bit, and he has that steely, determined, warrior like quality when he needs it. Like in this role he really seems like he could be that super intelligent, detail oriented, laser focused, badass ex-military guy. If he’s not a huge action star in the coming years then it’ll be a real shame because he’s just about got it all. I loved this series and I’m really looking forward to season two. I haven’t read the books but every comment I’ve seen by someone who mentions having read the books says that he nailed it as Reacher and that this is a far superior adaptation of the books than that Tom Cruise movie. I just wished you guys released your reactions faster so I could binge watch them all!
I've "met" Alan Ritchson when he played Aquaman (Arthur Curry) on the pre-Superman Superman show Smallville , back in 2005 (episode 5x04 "Aqua" was his first appearance). He was a big dude back then already. The wife of the banker in this episode (Kristin Kreuk) played Lana Lang on that same show.
He also played Aquaman in the Smallville show when they formed the Justice League. He was Hawk on HBO's Titans, the Teen Titans show. And he Rapheal in both the Magen Fox TMNT movies
Alan Ritchson playing Thad Castle in Blue Mountain State is night and day to his performance here. In the Football show he plays a big dumb strong guy who is overly loud and aggressive; this IS funny but can be overwhelming after seeing him in Reacher because of the huge contrast in character. That said Blue Mountain State is a very funny show overall.
G'day Nikki & Steven. So glad you guys are loving "Reacher" as much as I did. It one of the best series on TV and Alan Ritchson plays the part perfectly. He was also in Titans as Hawk, another series (DC) you should check out and react to. Keep the reactions coming, much love to you both from Downunder.
I would love to binge watch this with you two. My wife doesn't like these kind of shows so I could use some people to help me yell at the t.v. and laugh at people who play stupid games and win stupid prizes. Rock on Reacher!
Alan Ritchson played Thad in Blue Mountain State 2010-2011(3 Seasons), which was a comedy show about college football. this show also spawned a movie in 2016 (Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland)
He didn't throw his face in to the punch, he threw his forehead in to it. It's the most dense part of the skull and hurts to punch. "Throwing his head in to it" also shortens the distance between the fist and its target so when it hits, it's early and causes injury. Boxers sprains/breaks ofen happen this way
I am SO glad you guys are reacting to this show!! I watched it when it first came out & absolutely LOVED it but was disappointed that nobody was reacting to it on RU-vid or anywhere else. I’d really been wanting to see others’ reactions to it at the time so I’m excited to be watching yours now! Love watching you guys!!
Regarding your forehead comment at 10:38, direct quote from the first book (it's from the prison fight): "Held them to my bruised forehead. Hubble stood around doing nothing. I kept the cold towels on for a while and then took some more. Water ran down my face. Felt good. There was no real injury. No flesh there, just skin over solid bone. Not much to injure, and impossible to break. A perfect arch, nature’s strongest structure. That’s why I avoid hitting anything with my hands. Hands are pretty fragile. All kinds of small bones and tendons in there. A punch big enough to deck that Red Boy would have smashed my hand up pretty good."
Another reactor mentioned that show that the actor that plays Reacher was in and said the show was so-so and didn't last long but he said he was the best part of the show. Said he was hilarious in it. I'm loving this show as well. Just started it today.😊 Steven, FANTASTIC JOB editing!
Love the reaction as always!!! You two rock, keep at it!! I'm just sayin', if you like this.. put Banshee in a poll. Banshee is gonna rock your world, it's right in line with a show like this! Hope you and the family are thriving!
the headbutt tot he fist at the hotel is exactly what i do when someone sends a fist my way and i seeit coming, breaks their knuckles everytime if they go all in, their force+my force+hard head=broken bones lol
Reacher doesn't need "a reason" to go somewhere. He has -0- social obligations, and wants none. If he gets an urge to go somewhere - he goes there. But, do NOT get in his way.
10:36 thats an old school bare knuckle boxing trick. A fighter brings his head down to catch a punch with his forehead, he does it to try and break his opponant's hand.
He took that punch on the top of his head... common technique for fighting someone with no hand protection. Top of the head is the hardest bone in the body, easier to tank a punch there and it'll most likely break the hand punching it.
In case you didn't know he played hawk in Titans.... And he played awkward man in smallville which also happens to be where the Young lady In the red Sweater is also from so this is more like a reunion than anything
The crown of the forehead is the thickest part of the skull. If you can lower your head into an oncoming punch so the fist strikes that part of your head it can break fingers and knuckles with little or no damage to your head.
Caught yalls first reaction and had read the books awhile back and had never seen the show. I just binged it over the last 3 days. Great adaptation and very entertaining
He literally threw his face into one of the punches. 😂 He blocked the punch with his forehead therefore breaking the man's hand. The forehead is the strongest part of the skull and many boxers have broken their hands by hitting it.
It wasn't Reacher's face that blocked that punch, it was his forehead/the crown of his head. It's much harder than your facial bones and bringing it forward before the attacker fully extends his arm robs the punch of a lot of its force. It isn't something the vast majority of people are capable of doing, and if the attacker actually *knew* how to fight it wouldn't have worked very well. But these are drunk kids and Reacher is... well, Reacher.
Beer bottle and skin. My grandfather was a cowboy born before 1900. He could pop bottle caps off without a mark on his leathery skin and crush walnuts with his fingers. All at 5' 4". So, yeah, it can be done.
The actor playing Reacher Alan Richson was also Aquaman on Smallville, Hawk in DC’s Titans show and starred in the two recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. The next project he’s in will be Fast X in May. Hubble’s wife is played by Kristen Kreuk who was Lana Lang on Smallville for 7 Seasons.
Each episode gets better and better. A fun fact is that actor as Reacher and the actress that is Paul’s wife worked on Smallville. She was Lana Lang and he was Aquaman. He also plays Hawk in the DC Titans show. Now that you both said he moves like a Terminator I can’t get that out of my head😁 Someone needs to do a clip with him Walking and the classic theme music for Terminator playing
