I think there was a scene in that when a dude blocked a punch with his head making the rest of the fight super tense cause his hand is broken. More dedicated gun enthusiasts may correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I'm aware, the Desert Eagle is generally considered to be an inaccurate, unreliable weapon that's popular in the movies and among people with... big egos, but small... self esteem. So scale aside, it does seem an odd fit for Reacher.

Keep in mind that Reacher was an MP of an elite unit. MPs have to arrest trained killers, including special forces types. So Reacher has to have better training than them to make an arrest without being quickly killed.

@@nukiesduke6868 I have no idea about it's reliability at all and it seems kinda silly and excessive but hey. TV. A gun like that would be painful to fire. I remember when Dirty Harry came out and all these guys bought .44 magnums and then a couple of years later they were either being sold or just sitting on a shelf because the recoil and shock were painful and they were absolutely no fun to shoot.

That gun was a Desert Eagle. And it was developed to act as a rival to high powered revolvers. Chambered in “.50 Action Express” (yes that’s the actual name). As a wise man once said…”You use a Glock to kill someone. You use a Desert Eagle to kill the hell out of someone”.

Jack Reacher has a great philosophy when it comes to fighting: "Get your retaliation in first". In the first episode he said I'll count to 3, then attacked on 2. The next fight he said "I'll give to to the count of 3" but knew that prisoners talk and last time he started on 2, so he attacked immediately after 1. He tries to be unpredictable and brings overwhelming force immediately. And he will fight dirty.

There's no such thing as "fighting dirty" when it comes to real violence as opposed to simulated. Rules only exist in a structured, "organized" environment.

The thing about Reacher is the books follow the formula of the Kung Fu tv show, for the most part. He wanders town to town, encountering trouble that he usually has to think and destroy his way out of. Part of the appeal is that he never gets tied down too much with ongoing plots or personal drama. That way you can pick up any book and not have to try to catch up with what happened previously. Each book is pretty much standalone. It does mean love interests and friends that recur are the exception to the rule rather than something that you can count on. What that means for Roscoe in the show I don’t know.

It has been confirmed that Roscoe and Findly (sp?) Will not return for season 2. But Neagly will, since the next season is based on "Bad Luck and Trouble" which features her quite a bit.

She gave Reacher a IMI Desert Eagle. It's a heavy-duty handgun developed by an Israeli company. It fires various powerful rounds such as the .44 magnum, 357 magnum or the .50 cal Action Express. It's very popular in movies and video games because of it's distinct shape and high power. But generally not a very popular military sidearm due to it's cumbersome weight and heavy recoil. (perfect for Reacher's hands tho)

In the novels, Reacher always have a battle plan when he come to fight. He present rules of fight in the street. And his gun is a Desert Eagle. That gun can be buried in the sand and can be fired immediatly after it's unburied. By the the way, the first season is based on the Killing Floor, the first novel of the Jack Reacher serie.

Reacher´s fight style was developed on military basis all over the world during his childhood and teenage years. Further trained by the military to take out trained killers. So street fight rules and no mercy, if you wanna keep the upper hand. Add intelligence, great observation skills and most important something Reacher was diagnosed with as a child (little military experiment with the children of military personnel) : no flight but an attack reflex.

these people are out there and make for hilarious videos of people trying to frighten people and they run into one of them. I remember a video from ten years ago in a university student center at Halloween with a fake interviewer next to trash cans, one of which held a dude with a monster mask who jumps up roaring while the target is answering a question. And one victim unhesitatingly spun and dropped said monster with a vicious left cross to the face in less than a second. And quite a few videos with someone dressed up like a plant or statue, most people react with fear, I would, but every once in a while the response is instant attack.

Fun note. The same actor who plays the attorney Perez in this episode plays a manager at the post office in the movie Fatman. In Fatman, he is approached by an assassin in his office and forced to disclose information under threat of severe harm. Both scenes are very similar.

The headbutt blocking the punch works because he made contact with the punch before it had all the energy behind it. That handgun is a Desert Egale 50 caliber action express. It weights about 5 pounds unloaded. And shoots a bullet 1/2 inch in diameter. Traveling at 1550 feet per second dumping about 1600 foot pounds of energy into a tagert. Think of a water Mellon with a m80 blowing up inside it. Now think about half again as much

26:17 Reacher fights the way you should fight in those situations. Too often with fight scenes in movies/TV shows, you see guys square up like they're sparring. Reacher doesn't do that. Reacher hits them before they expect it, he hits them hard, and he doesn't stop hitting until they go limp.

the handgun (hand cannon is more fitting) is a DesertEagle, a handgun chambered in caliber usualy shot by revolver. From 357Mag to 44Mag passing through 41Mag. BUT (and it may be the case in the series) the most iconic was the 50AE, 50Action Express, a caliber, derived by 44Mag that was used to hunt bug games (no, just kidding, it was and it is still mainly used to make everybody at the range hate you by concussion, noise and fireworks out of the muzzle.. LOL.. please don't ask me how I know)

Whoever completes their loop first wins. Force the other guy to keep restarting the loop, you win. Reacher gets to his D phase, then asks a question or similar so the other guy goes back to O while he finishes A. Very smart.

@6:35 The handgun is a Desert Eagle which was a novelty .50 caliber handgun which came out in the 1990s?? They now make them in 'smaller' more traditional calibers like .45 and .357. Absurdly blocky, heavy, and uncomfortable for daily carry. I'm sure there are some people that do it anyway.

23:46 Actually a smart thing to do. Doing things like asking someone a question, even if they have no intention of answering, will cause them to instinctively pause very briefly. If you're being threatened asking someone what the time is and immediately throwing off a strike can give you a chance of gaining the upper hand. Edit: Obviously won't help mid-fight though

I was at a practice range and the guy next to me rented a Desert Eagle 44, I think. It was painful just to shoot next to him. He wasn't having fun and it kept jamming on him. My CZ 75 Shadow just kept plugging along as he was out of the range more than he was shooting. Saved money on ammo that way.

Brian Dennehy Gladiator the hardest part of the body is the forehead . That Gladiator movie was smothered by other movies that year and is virtually unheard of , But it was one of Cuba Gooding's out break movies and it was good.

I think the boxer movie you mentioned in the opening is called Gladiator, starring James Marshall, a young Cuba Gooding Jr, and Brian Dennehy as the evil ex-boxer/promoter who uses his forehead to F up the hero's bare-knuckle fight.
