while that is what is explained in the books its highly inaccurate to how actual military are trained. even special ops like navy seals have at most 60 hours of close querters combat training. none of them are trained like jack reacher

@@edmunger5595 Necro-post much? SMH. I never said that the video program is a faithful, word-for-word, scene-for-scene adaptation. (And yes, I've read "Killing Floor", along with almost all the others. But it's been a while for this book, so please forgive any inaccuracies on my part.) The non-canon compliant parts: First, the book was set in the early 90s. Cell phones were not widely available yet, and the iPhone wasn't even a glimmer in Steve Jobs's eye. Jobs was still trying to get NeXT Computers off the ground after leaving Apple. Second, Frances Neagley was folded into the timeline early. She wasn't introduced in the books until 4 or 5 issues later. Third, Reacher didn't stay at a rundown mom & pop BnB-style hotel next to the train tracks. Other than LE lodgings with bars on them and a few roadside motels, none were ever really shown on video. Fourth, we never saw Reacher's thoughts or internal dialogue like we get in the books: how a fight will progress; nor his innate ability to know the current time and wake up on time without an alarm clock; nor the internal cadre of jazz/blues musicians that entertain him in his head when idling time. That enough? Things that at least attempted to be canon-compliant: Exhibit A: Reacher's appearance. Though Ritchison is only 6'2"-ish, he has enough size and the bulk to pull it off. Camera angles made up for any lacking height. Exhibit B: Jack Reacher is a quirky and unique character who probably places somewhere on the autism spectrum. Think high-functioning individual with Asperger's-- everything is initially seen through a binary lens. Ritchison played it pretty well, and the fighting scenes were consistent with military training-- economy of movement that yielded max damage without the wild, flashy moves. Exhibit C: Most of the main plot points were there, either done faithfully or with some artistic liberties taken. That's usually the best case when adapting books to screenplays. I've seen other movies based on books where I thought it must've been based on a whole different author, series or characters. My final thoughts: Yes, I affirm your assertion that the video series differed from the book upon which it was based. Film and written word are completely different mediums with their own limitations. Adapting stories between mediums can go horribly astray. That said, this episodic video series allowed for a better adaptation because the story didn't have to be edited (read as "crushed") into a 2 hour film. It was a reasonably faithful adaptation of the book that had enough screen time to allow for more rich story. Would I recommend it, and will I watch Season 2 when it drops? yes. Would I caution avid fans of the books before watching? Yes, but only enough to say that minor liberties were taken. Other than that, it was enjoyable, entertaining ride. Actually in the first couple of books Reacher was 6'5" and 210 pounds ,he later worked his way to 250 pounds, apparently You have never read 1 of the books because every book gives a detailed description of Reacher and Alan Ritchson doesn't fit any of the description.

So you are saying 5’ 9” Tom Cruise fits Jack Reacher, at least Alan at 6’ 2” comes a lot closer and believable.

@@ronniedelaplain6722 no actually I said that Tom Cruise doesn't resemble the Reacher character but he is a good enough actor that he has the Reacher character attitude and gracefulness , whereas Alan Ritchson looks closer to the character but can't act worth a damn, but he won't be doing Jack Reacher long, 1 maybe 2 more and he will be gone.
