I'm a little triggered by the guy who apparently 'knows' Buffy lol he keeps on telling them stuff that isn't true! Joss Whedon wrote the movie, the hellmouth is not a portal to another world, slayers don't get their powers on their 16th birthday.

Also, 'not everyone can do magic' and saying this isn't Tara's first appearance. Everyone *could* do magic to some degree, but it takes energy, knowledge, and practice, but most are either oblivious or don't-- and some takes rare artifacts or implements, but it's not a Potterverse thing where only some have potential. 'I heard Joss Whedon wasn't involved after season four' --where are the Normies getting this stuff? Oh wow. This video is old. Well, I shouldn't reply, I guess, but I already typed it out. :P

Joss Whedon actually wrote the original movie script. He wasn't really happy with how it was directed. So he was able to get it picked up as a tv series on WB (the first season was short due to it being a replacement show).

Michael Wells I'd settle for them not stating what they think they know as fact. I mean they googled the number of seasons they could have googled the movie and the series to find out Joss Whedon was involved in all 7 seasons and that it wasn't cancelled, they decided to end it themselves.

While "The Body" is my favorite episode, I do NOT recommend watching it out of order. True, a lot of the themes and concepts in the episode are universal, but I feel most of the impact is lost if you don't understand the relationships and history all the characters have with each other. Though it's a daunting task, I truly recommend watching this whole series...it's awesome!

Angel and Spike are not the same character. They're pretty much rivals with each other the entire series (on Buff and on Angel's spinoff Angel). Even when they're fighting on the same side they don't like each other.

How little you guys know about Buffy Angel is hurtful. The show was set for 5 seasons, it went 7 as fans demanded a new season. If you do watch them all, you need to watch them in order of airdates for Buffy/Angel. Angel was on Buffy for the first few seasons. When he left todo his own show, they did a lot of little cross overs you will only catch by watching them back to back. Ex: Buffy might pick up the phone and say hello and not hear anyone so she hangs up. In the following episode of angel, you see him call her and hear her say hello but says nothing.

@juzujuzu4555
@juzujuzu4555 6 лет назад
I REALLY DONT RECOMMEND watching Buffy -> Angel -> Buffy - Angel. Well, perhaps the first season of Angel is OK to watch between Buffy episodes cos important crossovers are on season 1 and Angel is yet to build its own universe. Angel is so different show that mixing it with Buffy harms to get inside Angel universe. However you need to watch Buffy seasons 1 - 3 before watching Angel, thats a given ofcourse. And perhaps watch Buffy season 4 concurrent with Angel season 1, but after that its only going to hurt your experience.

Joss Whedon ran the show for the first five seasons, and continued to write and direct episodes until the show ended. I think his influence and vision is pretty indelible throughout, and even when he wasn't the showrunner the characters were already pretty fleshed out by him.
@Kaldary
@Kaldary 7 лет назад
The main character of Angel is Angel. XD Season one isn't as good as the following seasons, but still has some good episodes. Anya, the orgasm party girl, is an ex vengeance demon. No one likes Reily because compared to Buffy's other love interests, he's boring. Joss did have some involvement in later seasons. He directed three in season 5, 1 in season 6 (once more with feeling, another of the best in the series) and two in episode 7 which includes the series finale. I know he was busy with Firefly in 2002.

I'd love for them to watch this episode sometime. However, I think they need to see the episodes before it. It's an episode seven which always sets up the arc for the season. And well there's a lot they wouldn't get. Xander and Anya's relationship. Spike and Buffy's unhealthy relationship and why Buffy is so depressed, foreshadowing for Willow... Who the hell Dawn is.

@irishinnish1

The special effects and the action is campy, but it was meant to be. It was sort of Joss Whedon's throwback to the old 60's action/fantasy shows that he grew up on (Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Batman, etc....you'll even notice that, in addition to cheapish special effects and monster make-up, they also don't hide the stunt doubles during fight scenes very well lol). You have to watch it with that frame of mind to really get past that camp of it lol. The key to this show, what made it SOOO special and what put Joss on that map, was that character development and the writing. This is one of those shows that, if it didn't feature vampires and monsters and such, it would've been an Emmy contender for the writing every time. If you invest the time, you will fall in love with these characters and their journey. Angel and Buffy's chemistry is so captivating. I never saw the 'Twilight' movies because they were a cheesy rip off of A & B, and even the author of that book series has acknowledged the influence Buffy had on her story. All you guys would have to do is watch Season 2 of BTVS to see that. I've noticed there are a couple of RU-vid sites doing Buffy reactions in honor of JW; people who have never seen the show, like you. If you ARE planning on watching the series for your channel (and I HOPE you are), you should have an actual fan (like your friend who suggested 'Hush' to you, or even a subscriber like myself) recommend particular select episodes from each season, instead of trying to just go through all of them yourselves. In the meantime, I'd like to recommend a RU-vid channel called Passion of the Nerd. This gentleman dissects every BTVS and Angel with so much care and precision, it almost feel like a "Dummies Guide To..." on Buffy. It's really fantastic. Anyway, love the channel. Keep 'em coming. Cheers.

Now that you've watched this amazing episode, watch the rest from the beginning, because there is a lot of things that happen which lose their impact if you just watch them randomly. There is a lot revealed in this episode alone that if you watched from the beginning you would have understood more, and enjoyed more, and just getting an oral explanation from someone never does anything any justice. You need to get invested more, if you were invested in this world, these characters, which can only happen if you watched the show from the beginning, then this episode would've made more of an impact on you. I'm not asking you guys to react to the whole series if you can't make up time for it, but watch both Buffy and Angel from the beginning. Really enjoyed your reaction Hush!! Just a few bits of confusion I'd like to clear up about the show :) * Joss wrote the Buffy movie, but other the people involved in the project completely ruined his vision by turning it into a silly campy rom com, so he kind of disowned it. *The reason this episode reminds you so much of the Silence is because it was actually inspired by Hush. *The show Angel is about the character Angel lol. Sorry I just thought it was cute that nobody knew that :) *Anya, Xander's blunt girlfriend. was a demon for 1,100 years and is now human. The reason she has no filter is because she's still learning how to be human, and yes she is wildly entertaining. *This is something even a lot of dedicated Buffy fans get wrong. Buffy wasn't cancelled. It was supposed to end in season 5, but went on for 2 more seasons due to outcry from the fans. It ended in season 7 because Sarah Michelle Gellar quit the show. *Joss was involved for all 7 seasons of Buffy. After season 5 he stopped being the showrunner because he was working on Firefly and Angel. He left Marti Noxon in charge, but was still working as a script doctor and even wrote and directed a few more episodes.

To answer some of your stuff, Whedon was still involved in all 7 seasons but his influence was diminished after 6 and 7. He was still involved but not as much, and yeah it does show especially in season 6 which is the show's weakest. Joss started working on other things at that time. Secondly, Angel isn't Spike. Angel is a different character entirely. He was on the Buffy for the first 3 seasons then he was spunoff to his own during the 4th season of Buffy. Finally, the show is like Doctor Who in that the show jumps between Horror, Drama, and Comedy. There are alot of very dark heart-breaking moments, and a lot of funny hilarious ones. It actually handles them very seamlessly. Its a fantastic show, hope you guys do continue watching it.

Season 7 was a mess. There were a few good concepts that were just executed horribly. I did like Caleb, probably because he was played by Nathan Fillion, and I wish he was in more episodes. The villain really needed to spread across a few seasons to really work.
@rickmercado7276
@rickmercado7276 7 лет назад
Definitely have to agree to disagree then. Season 6 was definitely it most polarizing and while I understand the theme that Season 6 was going for. How young adulthood is confusing and you have no real idea of what are you trying to do or how to do it, but I feel the characters, with the exception of Tara and Dawn, became pretty unlikeable. As for heavily involved, he had at the time just sold Firefly to Fox and was heavily involved in trying to make that show a success and was balancing 3 shows, Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. Marti Noxon had a stronger influence in the show at this point. SMG herself said during the reunion that she felt it was a betrayal of the character and that it was more difficult to get Joss's opinion "when he's not upstairs", but that he promised to "dedicate the time to season 7 and that was his promise to [SMG]: that we would right all the wrongs and he kept that promise." She felt he kept that promise, I'm iffy on that but I don't hate 7, but I certainly don't love it.

I agree about season 6. It had some great episodes and I liked the finale, but yeah. I hated Willow's plot and seeing Red... talk about a polarizing episode! I wasn't too fond of the nerds either. I hated what was happening to Jonathan and Warren just makes my skin crawl. Andrew is okay but I'd rather have Jonathan than him in season 7.

Rick Mercado I agree though. Like the whole Doublemeat palace thing (i'm being intentionally vague so nobody who hasn't seen the show will be spoiled) was the worst part. That's not what i watch a show called "buffy the vampire slayer" for. Definitely agree about season 6 being kinda weird and I heard SMG herself had serious issues with it. But I'll repeat sexayyyy stuff happened

That intro is... not at all true. Joss Whedon DID write the film Buffy the Vampire Slayer and was very disappointed that the tone and attitude he had in his head did not come across at all in the filmmakers' execution. That's why he basically took a mulligan and did it as a show on a small time basic cable network. So he could have actual control over the final product and be like, "THIS is what I was trying to do."

Joss Whendon didn't just buy the rights from the 90's movie, he actually wrote the script but was, rightly so, unhappy with the changes made in the movie. A few years later WB had to fill out a time slot due to a cancelation and they approached Whendon with an idea for a TV series version of Buffy. He made a few changes and was given a ridiculous budget, but the show became an instant hit because of its writing and the balance between horror and comedy. It's been my favorite TV series since I was 16.

Glad to see you guys enjoyed it. I think you guys are ready to see the pilot and not judge it as harshly now knowing where it leads. If you guys do eventually to do all seven season you can do what Torchwood Boy is doing and watch all the seasons but ONLY reacting to specific important/funny episodes thus cutting the need to gather together every week for say weaker episodes.
@Kaldary
@Kaldary 7 лет назад
I think filming reacitons to the important episodes would be hte best. I don't think we need to see a reaction of I Robot You Jane or that fish episode from season 2 XD I'd love to see their reaction to Passion, The Becoming, The Wish, the character Faith, Something Blue, Tabula Rasa, The Body, Once More With Feeling, I will Remember You from Angel, so many episodes.

Angel follows David Boreanez character Angel who was in the first 3 seasons of Buffy. He got his spinoff show during this season of Buffy so season 1 of Angel correlates to Season 4 of Buffy. Buffy had 7 seasons (5 seasons on the WB network 2 seasons on UPN. You may remember UPN and WB eventually combined to form the now CW network) Angel had 5. Also one other correction Joss Whedon never "left" the show per se. Season 1 through 3 he was just more heavily involved day to day. Hush is season 4 for example and Joss wrote and directed it so he was still around. He also did the musical episode. However he does leave the show to Marti Noxon to run day to day. Marti Noxon has on her twitter profile "i ruined Buffy and I'll ruin you too" because her seasons were more split as to how good they are. BTW if you want to find an episode brown Pat would watch Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered. He would fuck with that episode for sure. And if Surej likes SMG too I can't say i recommend taking it off the react wheel yet as I said some of the later seasons are kinda meh but i do hope it lands on Buffy a couple more times in the future

Joss Whedon wrote the Buffy movie in 1992! He didn't re"vamp" the premise either. The movie is canon. In the first episode of Buffy, she's at Sunnydale High because she transferred after burning down the gym at her last school, which is what happened in the movie.

I lived in the dorm that Whedon lived in when he came up with Buffy. We got a little cemetery right outside the window which gave him ideas. Plenty of drunk blonds walking through that cemetery at night, no wonder he came up with Buffy.

Over a year late to this watching party, which kinda shows the power of Buffy. I highly recommend you do all 7 Seasons of Buffy in order, there are quiet a few Buffy reaction channels these days and I've seen channel viewership shoot up by the thousands just by doing Buffy reactions. The first season is short, not the best but it helps to get you familiar with the characters. Every season after gets better and better (for the most part) but you're missing out on one of the best shows in the history of TV. Hope you consider doing the entire show. Cheers!

Correction to what one of those guys said about Joss not being involved after season 4, that's not true. He was involved throughout the entire series. He never left it. During season 6 though he shared his showrunner duties with another writer/producer on the show when he started developing Firefly.

The comparisons with Who are apt, both in tone and the deep deep backstory. Also, RTD was a big Buffy fan, so it was a heavy influence on Who when it came back in 2005 (two years after Buffy ended). As you asked, Angel is not Spike, although they are both vampires, and are both in Angel the series, which is also very good. Oh, and Buffy lasts 7 seasons. Please don't add more cartoons to the react wheel while you are watching so many anime things every episode. Pretty please.

I'm glad this sparked an interest (Buffy is my all time favorite show). Just one small pet peeve, Joss actually CREATED Buffy, wrote the original film, he actually titled the first iteration of the character 'Rhonda the Immortal Waitress' (I'm sure it was the late 80s when this was written). He wrote this as an alternative to the typical blonde girl character in horror movies that is always one of the first to die, and he thought it would be more interesting to see her take the slasher head on. The title is co-owned by the Kazui's, which is why they are always credited in the series and it's spin-offs even though they are not really involved; they just helped finance the original movie which is where the property confusion may come in. Also Joss was involved for the whole series, but your comment of not being involved after s4 is SORT OF right, being that he had less of an involvement because at the time he was also producing/writing/directing Angel as well and by s6 and s7 he was doing Firefly, so he was just juggling too many projects, but he was always there for the BIG episodes. If you do choose to watch season one as part of this series, I just want you to go into this knowing that season one is the MOST dated, being that most of the characters hadn't really found their footing and style yet so they were just dressing them in whatever was trendy at the time so it just looks kind of old. Also it was a rushed midseason replacement so while the writing is good, the effects and camerawork are often laughable. What most Buffy fans will tell you is just to tough it out through season one, and if its too campy for you, just hit the BIG episodes (Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest, Angel, Prophecy Girl), and make it to season 2, because that's where it will hook you. But after all that, good luck! I hope you guys love it if you continue to watch. :)

Joss Whedon, wrote the movie too! 😎 For the series, he did not feel like retelling her origin, since the movie existed. But in the movie, she did not set the gymnasium on fire, as the series would have us believe. So the series retconned her origin anyway, as a part of Angel's origin story. 😎 Listen to the DVD episode commentaries. 😉

Joss didn't buy the rights to the movie. it was HIS movie. He wrote the script and because nobody understood his vision the director fucked it up....And then he adapted it into a tv show. Also its a hellmouth that theyre drawn to and it is the centre of supernatural energy. its not a portal. people in town are also semi aware of the supernatural going ons...they just subconsciously choose to ignore it. the show didn't get cancelled. they chose to bring it to an end because the actors were getting tired as well as joss who was also present throughout the whole run of this show. this was the project that catapulted his career and he was always involved and directed quite a lot of episodes after this personally. This show is amazing and well worth a watch

I think I'm one of your oldest if not the oldest subscriber...and this one really made it obvious. :-) I think anyone watching the series now would enjoy it, but probably not appreciate it as fully as when it first aired. It was unique because it was the first to have a female lead, particularly a petite, cute female lead, kicking butt and saving the world. The big 3 networks passed on the series because Whedon stood his ground on his original vision of the story (not that of the disastrous movie). It was the new WB/CW network took a chance on the series; because what did they have to lose going up against the big 3. They went for a younger audience and it paid off big time. A few of your references that Buffy reminds you of other shows is because this series opened the door and laid the groundwork for another type of storytelling. It was fresh, youthful, fun anti-establishment storytelling. The adults were often the inept ones. Again, it was the outcast girls who became the strongest characters and role models at that time. I think Willow and Tara were the first accepted, same-sex relationship on TV. For some of us, it only broke our hearts because it meant Seth Green's character, Oz, was not coming back to the show. Every generation it seems one series conveys best what is happening with social change. Buffy was that show. Also, TV did not invest in special effects at the time (unless it was Star Trek) like Buffy did. In today's standards they might not look that great, but 20+ years ago you only saw better in the theaters. I don't think you need to know all that to enjoy the series, but hopefully knowing it makes you appreciate it and Joss Whedon's work more. And yes, Nathan Fillian played an evil, black priest in the last season...maybe last couple? Also, Angel, was played by David Boreanaz, who now plays the FBI agent on Bones. So even before Twilight there was Team Angel shippers vs Team Spike shippers. Even if you don't "react" to it, I hope you all watch and enjoy the whole series. BTW - love this channel!

Joss Whedon has been involved all the way up to the current season 11. In season six he delegated responsibility to do Firefly and in season 4 the spinoff of Angel plays concurrently with Buffy, and does so until the end of BtVS with season 5 of Angel playing alone after that.
