One theory I saw once that made so much sense to me but was later debunked was the flip game in the subway. Depending on which color you chose, red or blue, chose which part you’d play in the game. Blue you’d be a contestant, red you’d be a worker. As in the workers are all doing it because they’re just as desperate as the contestants

Every time the money drops, it reminds me of two things. A slot machine with a big payout and they act like moths drawn to the flame. The cliffhanger of this episode was brutal. The filming of tug-of-war scene for the show was extremely tiring since they actually were going through the motions and had to take breaks after each take.

Its funny because for a competition at my school, there was a tug of war event happening and one of the teams did the method with a leader, the strongest in the back and the placement. You could hear someone counting for rest of the team to pull at a certain point and they won. Weird how this show may have changed tug of war.

I don't know if there's a con to telling anyone your name here, but there's definitely a con to knowing someones name. Knowing them only by their numbers dehumanizes them, which would make it "easier" to kill them. It creates a kind of barrier between "this is a human being" and "this is just a number"

I think this was my fave episode of the series because of the night of deaths which had creepy lighting. Also, big applause to the prop and set designers showcasing the games take on the classic 'tug of war' with the sleek looking high podiums and guillotine. It gave me SAW vibes. Also, the first time watching this ep,I figured out a lot of stuff that would happen later on in the series. But I don't want to spoil anything!

I think the game is using Pavlov's Dog experiment on them. Pavlov would ring a bell every time it was time for food so all his dogs would come running, it came to a point where the dogs would start to salivate at the sound of hearing the bell, even if it wasn't food time. Its also what Casino's do, you hear the sound of winning and the loud music from the game and want to continue playing. So after each game they show all the money you could win with music playing so that even if you want to leave you wont because in your brain, "I'm so close."

The story behind the workers is intriguing to me too. My theory is that they are all young, or the majority are. The one who took his mask off after game 2 looked very young. I think maybe they are from a juvenile centre or equivalent and are given the chance to gain their freedom by doing this. Or maybe they are young adults from a care background who don't necessarily have family to fall back on.

It's an unlucky number and Asian countries tend to avoid 4 as much as possible, not listing a 4th floor like America and the number 13.

Seriously, normally cliffhangers don’t get me that bad;that one did. When my husband and I watched this episode, when it began, we said it was the last one because it was so late at night and we had to work early. Soon as it cut to black, we were both cursing so much and yelling No!!! LoL 😂 (especially me, I was laughing so hard “they did it, they got me.”) and then we immediately started the next because we couldn’t wait. We were so tired the next day but it we agreed it was worth it. You should see the reactions from others from that ending; practically everyone freaked and screamed at the screen. LoL 😂

I'm curious about why so many people are working 'for' the game too. There are so many possibilities. They might be greedy (getting paid allot as 'temp' help), they might be desperate (like the players) but not quite as desperate, they might be people who have family members in trouble/danger who are desperate to help their family), they may be being blackmailed in some other way, they may just be unethical mercenaries.

Okay, fellas. I have a MAJOR bone to pick with your choice of unnecessary blurb for this video. The tug-of-war reveal in this episode is arguably the biggest reveal of the whole episode and you have it prominently featured in the title of this video. Consider it from a story-telling perspective. The writer clearly crafted it to be a reveal. He had the inside man get the game information beforehand and didn't reveal it to the audience. He then left breadcrumbs about the game by having the team w/ inside knowledge recruit the biggest and the strongest. And then in the dramatic lead-up to the reveal, he saved it for the last second, even having the line delivered with a dramatic pause i(n the original language), "This game is... tug-of war." And then consider it from a first-time viewer's perspective. Check out some of the other reaction videos to this episode and see how fun the reactions are from people who weren't privy to knowledge of the game. You see people wondering what the game is. You see them cursing the misogynistic Sang-woo and then speculate that the next game is one where having girls on the team will benefit them. All these raw, unadulterated reactions are so fun to watch. And then there are some who've been spoiled about tug-of-war from some meme they saw even before they decided to watch Squid Game. Their reaction is decidedly different (and a whole lot less entertaining in parts). All we get is the "oh, I'll bet this is that tug-of-war game." And when it's revealed, we're treated to a subdued "Yep." Contrast that to some of the gasps from the people who were unaware. And then we get to see their face as they realize "our team is screwed." "That bastard Sang-woo was right." "Man, we have 3 petite girls and a frail old man?" Putting "tug-of-war" in the title of your reaction video is a spoiler. And again, for what? What's the purpose? To communicate something to people who've already watched the show? They know. And this info adds nothing and is a big, fat spoiler written in all caps for the RU-vid algorithm to put on someone's timeline. Please rethink these superfluous blurbs or at least have the potential blurb undergo an extra layer of scrutiny to ensure that the information you present is not something you didn't know before viewing the episode.

There's a theme of fairness in this show, but it's all false. The people who run the games say they have to preserve equality and yet a lot of what they do is literally counter to that. This show is obviously an indictment of society and this episode is representative of the "fair on the surface, unfair in actuality" we all live with.

Hope you get to watch "Alice in Borderland" someday, it has kind of the same vibe as this show but it's a bit more on the "supernatural" side, it's really good
