In all the commentary about this footage no one is addressing this: Tony Kahn was trying to defend himself and his company against CM Punk by airing this footage. How could it not backfire if the EVPs (who are his avatar's in the segment) are presented as HEELS? So if FTR is supposed to be the babyface team, doesn't that make CM Punk the Babyface ally in the video? From a wrestling psychology perspective, TK just aligned the pro-AEW narrative with the HEELS on his own television show. So even the AEW fans who want to keep kayfabe will CHEER the side that in real life he was trying to discredit. I don't understand how he could possibly justify getting heel heet ON HIS COMPANY, ON HIS OWN TV SHOW, ON PURPOSE, and not think it would backfire spectacularly.

Coming from someone that prefers the general AEW product over WWE's, this always felt like a blatant attempt to distract people from what was going on with Wrestlemania and to boost ratings. While on one hand, I guess it worked with how the IWC has been since last night, on the other hand, this was just... A very stupid move for really any company to make. I don't think anyone is going to disagree that the handling of CM Punk as a whole has been one of AEW's biggest dumpster fires and airing this footage months after the fact was just pouring gasoline onto said fire. This would be like if WWE decided on a random episode of RAW months after the Montreal Screwjob had happened to air the footage of Bret Hart going after Vince. People that have picked their side aren't going to change their minds and people looking at things in a more neutral sense are likely to lean more towards Punk's side. I can just hope that Tony Khan can take what FTR said in their promo after the footage aired as advice and MOVE ON. This really does feel like a bad breakup that one side says they want to move on from it but keep on going out of their way to talk about how much they don't like the other person while said person has already moved on with their lives and only brings up the past relationship because people keep bugging them about it.

The takeaway i got was how barbone AEW's "gorilla" is compared to WWE's high end gorilla.

One thing I find funny with all this is Punk gave context behind everything while they just showed footage of only the incident. The leaks at the time only said about Perry wanting to use real glass. Punk added more context by saying it was smashing the window of a rental car, which aside from safety concerns as he pointed out screws over the rest of the talent cause they can get blacklisted from using the rentals. Did he handle it right? Not really, but I can understand his frustrations. There is never a right time and place for a physical altercation with a work colleague and frankly TK needs to stop being the fanboy and start managing his workplace

I think the future of AEW depends on how they handle Swerve Strickland. Have him win the title and completely brush over this stuff. Move on and create fresh stories

I legit think it will be difficult for AEW to get anywhere close their previous success when WWE is good. First, because any good wrestler will want to go to WWE (MJF probably already regretting resigning), and when WWE is good, what does AEW do better? Random matches? Sure. But their storylines are worse, their stars are less of stars, their product has stagnated, TK booked a great 2-3 years but now he is creatively empty, they don't do long term storytelling anymore. What is left for AEW to say "Hi watch this over the show that has Cody/Rock/Roman/Etc". Especially when you consider HHH is just getting in his creative groove and has a huge creative team, WWE have dramatically improved production now, they have much bigger money bags than TK. Truly I don't see a reason for AEW to exist now other than more wrestlers have jobs and options. It feels like TNA all over again

All of the usual suspects praised the COPEland match and gave it around four stars. I'm glad that match happened and I'm glad they did, because it proves definitively that nobody cares about these repetitive matches every single week. Who is talking about COPEland? Who is talking about AEW suddenly pushing Dustin Rhodes into the main event? They aren't, because none of that matters. It's the entertainment that matters; the drama. Not the flips and flops. Not the times someone is dropped on their neck. Not the near-falls and spamming of finishers. They will never consistently (or ever?) break 1M viewers a week until they realize and correct that problem.

Honestly, I think Jack Perry should have been fired too. He's far from a "scapegoat". Although if it were up to me a lot of the roster would have been fired with all the fights that happen backstage. The real problem is people feeling comfortable enough to run their mouths and get physical in the first place. That's a clear sign of poor leadership. Culture trickles down from the top in the workplace so if CM Punk, The Bucks, Omega, Jack Perry, Sammy, Eddie Kingston etc are all getting in fights, then it's up to Tony Kahn to take action. Ideally run a ship where these things don't happen in the first place.

AEW has been a godsend for guys like Meltzer/Keller/SRS and those who just report their news with added commentary. In their "golden era," they were the beacon of hope. Now they're the laughing stock. Either way, if you're talking wrestling online, TK gave you plenty of stuff to talk about.
