James and animator Nobu are reacting to Batman: The Killing Joke. Sorry to hear about your Sonic the Hedgehog film reactions being taken down due to copyright strikes from Paramount and even the same can be said with your reaction of _The Super Mario Bros. Movie_ that still remains copyright striked by NBCUniversal/Comcast 2 months ago. Hopefully you would work around the copyrights and edit your reactions so they can be re-uploaded on the channel someday. Even to this day I’m still perplexed why your _Super Mario Bros. Movie_ reaction got taken down but the other reactors who reacted to this movie didn’t get their reactions taken down by NBCUniversal/Comcast?

This film certainly has its problems, but I will say that the last 40 minutes are actually quite good and faithful. Mark Hamill and Kevin Konroy will always be best voices for Joker and Batman.

i remember seeing this film when it came out and thinking the Barbara+Batman dynamic was so weird lol, depending on the piece of media she either sees him as a mentor/father figure or a love interest, she was originally interested in Dick Grayson.

I know y'all said you recorded this last year, but something I thought was awesome is that Mark Hamill had retired completely from doing the Joker voice, as it was really getting rough on his throat. But he did say there was one thing he'd come back to do the voice for..... The Killing Joke. Mark returned to the recording booth exclusively for this movie :3

The first half of this is definitely problematic but the last half is amazing. It constantly boggles my mind that DC can't get their act together for the live action movies but their animated movies are consistently gold. You guys should absolutely check out Dark Knight Returns.

21:50 for all the movie's problems they got this scene right. This is the scene that made The Killing Joke what it is. Joker's whole , well, joke perfectly describes his and Batman's relationship and the layers to it. He describes borh himself and Batman as crazy but unlike himself, Batman is the one who made a leap of faith and got to the other side. Meanwhile the Joker is too afraid to do the same. Not only does he not think its possible for him to do it, but he doesn't trust Batman to stick by him if he did. And to this day, its still debated if the final scene of this movie is Batman killing the Joker or not.

Would seriously love to see you guys react to Batman the long Halloween. Notice when Batman starts laughing and the Joker immediately stops when Batman wraps his arms around him. It’s implied that Batman strangled the joker hence the name The Killing Joke. The author intended it to have an audience interpretation.

This actually isn't true at all. Alan Moore himself, the original writer of The Killing Joke, has gone on record to say that the way he made the ending is *NOT* to be interpreted as the Batman snapping and killing the Joker, but rather a shared moment between these two characters where they experience a brief lucid realization of the absolutely insane relationship that they have... and they both can't do anything except laugh at their situation.

Many people argue that the Joker is hyper sane. Aware of things others aren’t. Every time he breaks the fourth wall and shows he knows he’s in a comic book, people in the world are of course like “Well, he’s crazy.” But many, I included, wonder if it’s insanity or merely being so aware that it breaks you.

Considering the way he makes up incredibly elaborate backstories for himself and that, if you think about it hard enough, there is an actual comic where each backstory is the "real story"? He is DEFINITELY aware of what he is and who he is supposed to be in the meta sense, and he is obsessed with Batman because of it. While I also believe he's insane simply because of the few times when he tortures people that have basically nothing to do with Batman "because it's funny", he leans into it a lot so he looks like more of a lunatic than he is.

That batman and batgirl thing here will forever live in infamy, but aside from that this is a decent page to scene adaptation. The prologue was added to try and make Batgirl have a better role in the story than just to get shot. However, they created more problems and the prologue feels so disconnected from the rest of the story. You can just cut to the beginning of Batman walking in the rain and just watch it from there.

I wanna see The Joker War and The Three Jokers get their animated movie as well. You guys should check out their comics. The Three Jokers comics is one of my favorite besides from Injustice, it shows the origin story of Joker (Spoiler Alert: Joker's real name is Jack Oswald White) and there are epic plot twists, it's a well written comics. And the art is so sick. I love it.

The ending here and more so in the comic was meant to imply that Batman kills the Joker... but as it was left ambiguous the comics slightly retconned that allowing the Joker to return... I can't recall if they ever actually explained how things played out though. I do remember the original comic being very brutal at the time though, back when comics were really getting the hang of being 'dark'.

Sucks about the Sonic movie reaction. Glad I managed to watch the first one before it was nuked. Despite it being FAIR USE, RU-vid! But I digress...I highly recommend you react to the Batman/Superman team-up movies, such as "Public Enemies" and "World's Finest". I think you'd thoroughly enjoy them and their friendship is something to behold. Especially when you take into account Batman and Superman are best friends since the 1940's radio shows, much like you and Nine-Tailed Brush/Nobu. In the comic we see Just the silhouete of Batman putting his hand over Jokers neck, as the panels move to the rain. Both are laughting, until Just Batman is. Originally the comics was suposed to be an elseworld story. But It was so iconic they decided to include It in the canon. Thats why they changed It in the movie, so that Batman didnt killed the Joker in the end. Also, thats not necessarly Jokers origin, even in canon. Its just ONE version Joker is telling It. But as he said, his past is mutiple choice. Sometimes he remembers It one way, sometimes another.

I actually enjoy this movie despite it's flaws. The first half of the movie wasn't faithful to the comic book because the source material was pretty short. So they wanted add an original story in order to make this movie 90 minutes or longer. But the second half is pretty faithful though.

The part with Batman hooking up with Batgirl was too weird, I agree. But, if you think about, Batman is a bit screwed up in the head too, in a way. Also, in the Batman: The Animated Series, there were hints the 2 had a relationship as well as in the Batman Beyond series, there was also a hint they had a thing. You mentioned Batman: Hush. FYI, that movie is part of a continuation of other animated films that came before it. You can look online or Wikipedia and see a big list of which DC animated movies came out when in order and which ones are part of which continuity and which are stand-a-lone. Other than the animated movies, if you guys really want a great introduction to many of the DC characters, watch the Young Justice animated series. It is very fun to watch, but with each season, new characters get introduced and you really get a good broad overview of so many different DC superheroes and what they do, including even Blue Beetle, whose movie is coming out very soon.

"If I'm gonna have a past I prefer it to be multiple choice". That's where you realize as a reader/viewer that the Joker fooled you too. The origin story you saw from his memory is just as fake as any other. He doesn't remember, but he's gonna follow his sick mind to prove whatever fantasy his sick mind fabricated. People died and got injured just because his delusional spirit pushed him to prove a point that never even was. That's the real horror.

When it comes to this version of Barbara and Bruce's relationship, Barbara was first with Dick Grayson. Then in "Batman Beyond" we find out Barbara and Bruce were together at some point. That being said, it just doesn't work here for several reasons, but I do get why it was done. It's just an easy, obvious storyline that was so haphazard. I mean, they literally have the gay best friend stereotype Barbara complains to.

I thought it was fine as a whole, but as a production it's quite disappointing. The story and characters follow the comic to a t, but not any further. The voice actors were great however and couldn't imagine anyone but Hamill and conroy. I feel that they really take the material seriously, and that shows in the movie. The Batman/Barbara-stuff is totally unnecessary and could either have been completely cut or edited down. It's not awful but it doesn't belong in this story. One of my bigger disappointments was with the animation. It IS decent enough, for a straight to video kind of movie, but a story like this should have a bigger budget. The dark knight returns-movies looked great so I'm a bit confused why this one, considering it's based on an equally as famous comic, wasn't living up to that standard. The colors are nothing special. Mostly muted and without any real depth. The backgrounds are ok, but they all look like a pale imitation of the comic, instead of bringing the pages to life. The animation itself it quite static, with no great movements or anything like that. Sometimes I feel like I can even count the frames. As I stated before, I think that the movie is ok but a story like this needed to be much better than just "ok"

All this stuff about him being a comedian is nonsense, but the red hood and vat of acid stuff is spot-on. Have you guys not watched Tim Burton's Batman!?!???? Tim Burton's Batman NAILED Joker's origin story, but omitted the Red Hood aspect. Honestly, The Killing Joke is a wildly overrated and kind of bad Batman story. You guys really need to watch The Long Halloween. That's pretty much the BEST Batman story.

This movie was atrocious. An insult to the comic. The whole sex with Batgirl thing was never in the comic and completely out of place. And it removed the part where Batman kills the Joker at the end too.

Ugh... This movie. I wish you guys read the comic instead, or at least first. Not even Kevin and Mark's performances could save it. They don't stand great in this, and they were just in Arkham Knight! And, of course... The first half and how Barbara is portrayed in this movie. Also the animation is just so stiff! Why cheap out on THE KILLING JOKE of all adaptations! Bad introduction to Barbara/Batgirl for Nobu. Watch the two-parter, The Shadow of the Bat from Batman: The Animated Series. Better introduction to the character.

The first half of this movie was terrible and completely made up. The actual depiction of the Comic book doesn’t start till the second half of the movie. Also the Batman and Batgirl fling Super creepy. I mean Bruce is her dad’s buddy. They have coffee together. Yuck.

I don't care what the critics or anybody else says, this movie is awesome. The first half is admittedly flawed, but it shouldn't be enough to ruin the whole thing. R.I.P. Kevin Conroy (Batman). 🙏🥲
