Enemy in game, namely "妖怪” we called in Chinese myth, which means analogously "monster". But some difference between them. Some kind of 妖怪 are harmless, they help people (for instence, they guide people who get lost in the mountains back home ) or keep distance from people habitation (some are indifferent to people), some kinds are bad , hurt and eat people . There are many interesting and excellent story in Chinese myth(totally different from Norse mythology, Greek mythology), maybe we could have more excellent Game Develop Company to show our story in future. Additionally, too many elements of Chinese myth, whether it is the story, the music, the clothes of the characters, the appearance of the monsters, the patterns on the boxes, and the style of the surrounding buildings, they all show a strong Chinese style (these can be found in books, the most important one is 《西游记》, one of the four famous Chinese novels, not created arbitrarily)。 Developers went to other parts of our country to find ancient buildings related to game (their Weibo shows that), to use as in-game buildings. They are hardworking and very serious.
Yeah it's unique that the "monster" have their own society, some co-exist with humans some choose not to due to human nature of prejudice. All beings are overlook by the Gods, but as usual there will be some that are opposition and Wukong is one of them but he is reversed, almost seem as a anti-hero at some point pre-mature form of Wukong
I've only recently gotten more into Souls games and the Journey to the West Mythology so I wasn't super excited at first, but now I can really appreciate all the effort going into this. This is honestly one of the few games I've seen that REAALY looks likes it's taking advantage of the new hardware.
I recommend the series on Journey to the West from Overly Sarcastic Productions, its very well researched and presented. Its one of the most creative and outlandish fantasy stiries to this day, its a lot of fun.
I just hope they have other voice options as well. I can't with Chinese Dub. It's the same with Anime, sometimes. It's hard to tell the tone of their voice, to know what they're feeling because of the Tonal Language part, but that's just me.
@@chasejackson7248 That's the case for you perhaps. I've consumed many pieces of media where I've had to use subtitles and had no trouble being immersed in the story and world.
@@chasejackson7248 Everything is more immersive in their original intended language, a Japanese/ Chinese person will never be as immersed watching Star Wars or Lord of the Rings in Japanese or Chinese as it is in English. The iconic lines like "may the force be with you" or "you shall not pass" will not be the same and carry the same meaning in other languages.
I would like to personally thank OSP for bringing the 'Abridged version' of the Journey to the West stories. They managed to give me a fairly decent perspective on what the story and world is about without over-detailing everything.
Still waiting for the next episode, that series is really good. The only character I find extremely bland is Tripitaka. Having no powers is no issue, but he is neither diplomatic or tactical to make up for it. Meanwhile, Sun Wukong is fun, chaotic, generally well meaning, flexible and full of tricks.
@@KaiserAfini In the book(s) Tripitaka is - to me - so annoying. He is always whining and cowardly and sends Wukong out to do his dirty work and then complains about how it's done. I'm waiting for his enlightenment moment and hopefully he'll be less bland and useless.
@@wylderwynd I agree, at least as far as the OSP episodes showed so far. I never got over the fact that he enslaved Sun Wukong to become his bodyguard in this very deadly journey, he feels self righteous about it too and no one has called him out on it so far. With his inflexibility and lack of any contribution creating trouble more often than not, I really hope he gets a huge karmic backlash eventually. He is hubristic, not perceptive, a bad listener, not insightful and has tunnel vision on his sutra retrieval mission. I think he needs to be humbled before he can have any character growth.
@@AndorranStairway That Buddha previously demonstrated with the hand metaphor that he is omnipresent and so powerful that he could technically just yeet the sutras to the faithful with minimal effort or even dictate the contents to a scribe, rendering the whole premise of the journey the main characters undertake pointless.
One of the smaller things you probably missed with the "bonefire" thing, he actually outright missed on putting it in the first time, having it slide away from the hole. So he lifted it up and put it in. Most games would have the character put it directly into the hole the first try. But making that small error feels really realistic. Edit clarification: I am not meaning the game mechanic. I'm strictly referring to how Wukong made a very tiny error everyone has likely made trying to thread a needle.
One thing I've noticed is that they still seem to be tweaking Wukong's Unbreakable Body technique aka the parry mechanic throughout these videos. A lot of the attacks are set it looks like but there's probably a lot more changes coming for spells and transformations until release
That staggering animation of the dragon boss really shows some inspiration from Monster Hunter and how you can down the beast to break parts for crafting. Sounds like the perfect combination, a soulsborne game with MH elements. I'M SOLD!
4:08 Purple mushroom x2 4:30 Rest / (not sure what it mean) / Training / Leave Rest option will recover LP and restore the jar, but also respawn enemies Also show the location name 5:24 Purple mushroom x1 5:35 Old wild ginseng x1 6:42 soul x200, thousand years wild ginseng x1 6:56 Herbs On top are: Skills / God Gift / Items / (Not Clear) / Bestiary / Setting 6:58 Bestiary The "bonefire" is a kind of shrine where he offer the burn joss stick, it's Chinese (Taoism) way to pray. Also the rock transformation, it appear in the bestiary. Similar to previous trailer we saw Wu Kong transform into enemy and use their ability. The "1" button say "Rock" which the player transform Wu Kong into the rock creature. Translate is very difficult, might get some translation wrong.
@@alaskaone China is very big (continent sized) and has a population that has more people than US, Canada, Europe, Japan.... all combined. So I don't think everyone in China thinks the same but yeah, the Chinese are practical people and they do like making money. Since the trailers came out, many Chinese investors were dying to hop on.
The themes for "Journey to the West" and "Classic Of Mountain & Sea" are actually rather heavily used in Chinese RPGs (and, gods forbid, Pay-To-Win mobile MMOs) but this game is the only one that made the Western audience sit up and pay attention to, what with it being AAA level and all.
@@doombottv6524 You can walk, run, attack, dodge, parry, change form, heal, use summons, magic, stealth, stealth attacks, use save points etc. If all these doesn't feel like actual gameplay, Souls games never had actual game play.
Yeah, Monster Hunter has been doing this since the first game, I agree though, it let's you focus more on how the enemy acts rather than how much health they have left
I'm very, very excited about this one. Although, I'm skeptical as far as really HOW far into development the game actually is. Every new enemy and trailer they show feels very "tech demo-y". I'm hoping for the best though.
@@anteshell They kind of are though. That doesn't mean it being fake will always be the case, but this is a common situation where a game shows off a bunch of flashy graphics and animations and then it releases and the game plays and looks nothing like what we saw. You'd be a fool to instantly trust a company and believe you will get what you see
btw, the rock transformation during the boss fight seems to be of the subterranean enemy that was previously defeated, just like in previous showcases, it just looks like a chunk of rock on legs because the mimic enemy is root-like and underground so it fits that it is covered in pieces of soil, and even the music kinda changed to a more joking tone in my perception because you'd assume you'd change form to use the white humanoid root's abilities, only to be met with dirt on legs, who ended up being quite effective damage-wise i guess due to some elemental weakness (ground beats lightning) rather than it just being heavy
There's a lot of bad things you can say about china but one thing I always loved about china is there fantasy world myths and wushu art of cultivation and immortality I just wish there were more game's built on top of chinese fantasy one game I've put close to 500Hrs on alone is the Amazing cultivation simulator and then there couple other games I played and still play are Tale of Wuxia, Legends of Wulin, Scroll of Taiwu, Path of Wuxia and more I can't remember off the top of my head and I read so many novels and webcomics of these things as well I loved this stuff so much I started learning how to read this stuff in chinese years ag
To be fair there's a lot of bad things you can say about a lot of countries in the world, and the list is very long when it comes to america as well. You don't need to feel strictly one way or another about a country, praise what you like, and criticize what you don't like.
@@None38389 Yes but also America and other western countries aren't currently committing genocide against Uyghurs and erasing Uyghur culture. CCP may call them "re-education camps" but we all know that they are just saying that as an excuse. Also you should hate the CCP but not the Chinese people because ultimately they are just as much the victims as they don't get a say in their government
@@Foogi9000 so you actually bought that fictional fabricated news (remember this from someone like myself with Uyghurs family). Collect more braincells for gods sake. Your media is messing up your brain more than drugs can.
What I like about this is that you are fighting these creatures in broad daylight and in a visually pleasing area. Many other Souls-like games play in a dark and gritty nightmarish environment. It's a welcome change!
It looks good, and I'm interested in seeing how it'll turn out. Hopefully the game will release in this state, but the more I see it, the more I keep getting this feeling that it looks too good to be true.
4:56 this looks like a devil may cry style "check point" to save at , heal at, access perhaps say craft or storage , swap out ability skill specs, this is what i think that is.
Definitely Souls style 苍狼林 Blue Wolf Forest 回复周身状态兼补满葫芦,与此同时会重新引出山中妖怪 Recover health and fill the gourd, as well as respawn monster 调息 Recover 缩地 Fast Travel 修行 Level Up 离开 Leave
I'm staying guarded, until I see something more finalized than this I won't be another way about it. It's just too easy for something like this to start out so promising only to have it crash and burn at the final hurdle.
That is your fault my friend. Just don't be like the rest of the gaming community, just a bunch of fucking assholes crying babies for everything nowadays, they are no better than the horrible industries they tend to criticize. We do not need another cyberbug or watch dogs situation, they come from developers who have lost themselves a long time ago, never trust in any company it does not matter how nice they have been recently. They can stab you at any point. But at the same time you don't need to put a gun on point blank to threat almost everyone as an enemy, that is not OK either ; just have a little bit more of optimism sometimes, I think these people are doing well so far, therefore they deserve a vote of trust, not faith as some "gamers" tend to use when they think a company is the last savior of the gaming industry. I hate those people.
@@eliasfigarzon9813 bruh it's just another souls game, nothing new for the past 6+ years. It's like any souls games, you spam the same button over and over again and roll sometimes. Beat DS1 and elden ring, games are basically all the same. Same thing with this games, guy In the video keeps taking about graphics, effects, particle, effects, because everything else is the same as the souls games, which have been the same for years themselves . Nothing that deep
@@Setogayamari then it should be good to stop praising every single from software game that comes out, if it is how you put it then the games are being sell as a skin of another game. Many things are wrong with the community here.
@@eliasfigarzon9813 The dark souls community makes no sense to me, they hate other games for doing the same old standard yet dark souls hasn't evolved since 2011
Oh look! A game that showcased beautiful environment, smooth gameplay, excellent combat mechanics, I repeat EXCELLENT combat mechanics. Gotham Knights developers TAKE NOTES!
1. 调息 Reorganize breath, like doctor tell you deep breath, relax. 2. 缩地 Reduce distance, I guess it means go to other saved location. 3. 修行 Spiritual practice, not sure what it can be done, maybe help you get exp. 4. 离开 Leave the menu.
Strangely few people talking about some of the really yikes statements these devs have made. I know you're excited about the game Yong but I feel like you owe it to your audience to dig into that a bit.
Wow, that looks SICK!!! I can't believe how fluid the enemies move, it looks so realistic how they move, super awesome and the atmosphere is so thick idk how to fully describe it, it's just sick looking. It was a jaw dropper for me a bit. It just looks amazing and unique and I can't wait to play it, and I never heard of this title or lore before right now.👍 I dig it.
im really glad to see this is a more honest game play like before, there willing to show them taking hit, getting caught, even dying in combat, makes it feel more real and not snipped and edited to prefection like some early game play demos
Whats interesting about Journey to the West is that its actually inspired by true events in history, yes this is a fantasized version, but its inspired by the true story of a Chinese monk who travelled by foot too India in ancient times
so far my only critique for this game is a HUGE pet peeve of mine... when an enemy gets hit they dont react or recoil to the hits. like in some bosses of elden ring theyre stomach will jiggle or theyll wince... but again the game isnt done yet so we will see
Part of that is purposeful game design. An enemy who poises through your attacks is a more difficult enemy to fight. One which is staggered is easier to defeat.
It would be absolutely hilarious if this was a dud on arrival, after all the damn hype. Every time a clip of this is released everyone loses their minds over it, and I’m always like “why?”
I really hope they take their time with this game, so far looks good yet graphics and animations still need some polishing (graphics look awesome, but idk they still feel like a tech demo for me and some animations still look artificial and stiff)
I feel like the one thing that looks unsatisfying is enemy reaction to getting attacked. It feels like the player is hitting a brick wall, with enemies often not flinching or looking like they’re not taking damage (maybe should lose some sort of blood or blood-like fluid, or get physically damaged and lose parts?).
I think I've made a mistake. I just re-editted my comment and somehow it's gone now, so I'll make a comment again, sorry. 4:19, about the "bonfire" place, there are 4 options: The first one "调息"(tiáo xī) means "rest", like what u said, Wukong could restore his health with it. However, according to the intelligence on Chinese website, those defeated enemies would be refreshed too. The second "缩地"(suō dì, a Chinese magic in Taoism that could teleport u from one place to another) suggests that this place has a portal function. With the third "修行"(xiū xíng, practice) u could upgrade ur skills. The last one "离开"(lí kāi), quit In addition, according to the intelligence collected by fans on Chinese website, the enemies, including the giant wolf (灵虚子) in the ver first trailer, the white dragon (亢金龙) in the first UE5 trailer and the dragon (赤髯) in this video, they are probably not the so called "bosses", or u can call them "elite monsters". The only big boss right now is the "Yellow Eyebrow King"(黄眉大王), the old guy with bart at the end of the first UE5 trailer. And big boss means that Wukong's skills such as freezing skill in this video could be inaffective ti him. So, if the elite monsters are already so hard to fight against, u could imagine the real big bosses...
I like how they’re not really spoiling any of the boss, or mini boss battles. If you notice in all the gameplay vids, they don’t really show him defeating the bosses. It either cuts to the end, or he just runs away. They don’t spoil the full fight, or any possible boss transitions.
The fact that they are showing gameplay without any smoke screens and downgrades, being honest from the start is what wins my trust. And my wallet. I Don't buy too much new games nowadays, but this one is a day one for me.
Don't be another fucking crying babie gamer, that is how the community is today. I get why you are skeptical with all the bad memories of cyberbug and watch dogs, but not everyone out there is a shallow developer who lost itself a long time ago, I think these people are doing good so far, therefore they deserve a vote of trust, not faith. Never trust in any company ; it does not matter how good they have been, they will stab you at any time if they want. Example. Santa Monica could do it at any point with God of War. Just be a little bit more optimistic, and keep your desires under control because you'd be surprised of how satisfied you can feel.
This game looks phenomenal. The first trailer/reveal, I was blown away. The second trailer/gameplay I couldn't believe it, it kept getting better. And this? No words
Curb your enthusiasm. A trailer hyping up a game? You all haven't learnt a thing. Just because it looks great, doesn't mean the actual game comes out is going to be the same. Haven't you all learn anything over the years?
@@kennyljs nah dude dont put no mans sky in this list they learned their mistakes and now no mans sky is living up to its hype with tons of gamechanging updates
Lest we all remember, the Anthem. I will only be hyped upon release. However, everything I've seen in Unreal 5 looks amazing and I can't wait for this and The First Descendant.
Light a incense shows the name of the location and that mobs will respawn. The four options are Rest, Fast Travel, Training, Leave. Do note that what I translate was the meaning, not the words itself in the game.
The game looks pretty good but I was really hoping they'd work more on the impact when you hit enemies. Most of the time the enemies don't really react when being hit which creates this weird feeling of your attacks doing essentially nothing. Some bigger hits definitely have impact and enemy animations properly reacting to it. Hopefully they'll polish that up as well.
Can we just wait for the game to get finished and released before we start to hype it? It doesn't matter how good it looks in just a video and we should have learnt this by now and Yong should be better than this.
This has to be a game based on Sun Wukong's progress from his beginnings as the statue and into the Triple-immortal trouble making badass. It's either that or we see one of the Monkeys of Flower Fruit Mountain following his footsteps.
It's most likely something closer to another monkey following Wukong's footsteps and we're playing as that monkey. In the very first trailer we see what appears to be the real Wukong stopping the player Wukong from killing the werewolf boss, the real Wukong has the circlet and the real Jingu Bang. However this unusual detail combined with the title "Dark Myth" has caused a lot of speculation over who is actually the real Wukong and it might turn out that we are actually playing the actual Wukong and the "real Wukong" that appeared is actually the Six Eared Macaque who impersonated him. People think that this might be an alternate telling of the story after meeting the Six Eared Macaque, maybe Wukong's identity was stolen by him and Macaque went on to complete the journey and actually became a Buddha himself. Which means this Wukong we're playing is the real one and he didn't complete the journey and become a Buddha, this might be the Dark Myth.
I have a personal rule that game Devs should follow (some may consider it common sense) if game is not near completion(only bug fixes remain) *Shouldn't* be shown to the public.
Everything I know about this mythology comes from Dragon Ball. So seeing something that is much more grounded and more authentic to the mythology makes this game's setting very amazing. I just hope that this game will end up being as amazing as it looks when it finally releases.
While it still looks good, my excitement for this game pretty much died when the devs took a deal with Tencent, even though they initially said they started the studio to get away from Tencent's influence.
@@TrueAfricanHero the essential translation of his words were that the game "Needed no female players", and some chinese people pointed out that, while it said that, it also said far worse.
We really need some wuxia/xianxia style arpj's or even turnbased for some of the wilder stuff and just chinese mythos in games in general (A game based on renegade immortal would be so awesome though)
The enemy he defeated gave him its power and I see he used it in that dragon fight. That whole rock thing, but even though it looked simple, it took large chunks of the dragons health meter. So it must be doing something right lol Such a great game.
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West... someone forgot that little gem. And then there's the Saiyuki anime series. Dragon Ball isn't the only time this material was adapted.
Look how beautiful this game looks! This is gonna be great, we finally get to be the Monkey King! Stephen Chow has done movies on Wukong with "Journey to the West" and "Monkey King 1&2."They were all great and Wukong's power was off the Charts! You notice he doesn't have the enchanted headband on yet right? Oh so much mischief awaits!
Nice to see you giving in to the industrial hype complex and promoting games that haven't even come out yet, and thinking this 8 minutes will represent the entire game. Ow well comes with popularity I guess
This is shaping up nicely, I love the mythology and the design here is wonderful. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is the last game I played that kind of delved into this, but that was its own take and it wasn't as well received as it deserved to be imo even so it was quite interesting. Looking forward to seeing more on this.
If you want to read up on on the story this game is based on, please read Wu Cheng 'En's "Monkey". This book may be old, but it's full of humour, beautiful descriptions, character development and adventure. I've only read it in the English translation published by Penguin Books. I can't judge how accurate the translation is, since my command of Mandarin is far too weak to even dream about reading the original version. I'm also excited about this game, but I doubt I still have the dexterity to finish this.
on the Chinese menu at 5:12 : the first one "调息" probably means relax or rest, actually not a commonly used word. There is a explanation line on top of the menu basically saying: "refill all status bars, replenish gourds and refresh all monsters". This is probably what happens when you select "调息", so basically a bonfire mechanism. The second one “缩地” is very confusing, I actually don't know what it does. It literally translates to "shrink into the land". The third one “修行” is a very common word used in those Chinese swordsman novels. It basically means training. The fourth one “离开” means leaving. Also, the big title on the menu “苍狼林” should be the name of the place "woods of wolves"
if you've read the classic chinese myth like The Legend of Deification, you'll know the "shrink into the land" is a skill of travelling around (the map)
I love the mythology. Read the book Journey to the west and this absolutely is high on my list. Enslaved from the Xbox 360 era was a loose and fun take on the story but the demons in this last gameplay trailer looked so damn good. Exciting to see how it turns out.
I'm hype to see more of the world and the level designs because that's where most 3d Soulsborne inspired games usually fails at, as many forget that that's one of the key element that made the Souls games great. I'm a huge fan of both the Soulsborne games and Journey to the West mythology so I'm super hype see what they could come up with because I'm about to go insane with my own imagination
For those whose curious, the 'bone fire' menu means (not the exact word to word translation obviouly) Rest Travel Level up Leave In the menu (6:57) shows the lore of the monsters encoutered before, the mark probably means the lore has been read Also, the other cut scene released looks amazing as well
I hope the focus is mainly on abilities and transformations you collect, and less focus on one time use items. I do also hope this game has a lot of secrets dedicated to the lore of the character making it even more interesting. I hope to learn more about the character as I play in a none annoying way. Looking forward to the game so far hope it continues to look this good.
