He's singing in his native language, Kazak, and he was very emotional because he's singing about his beloved music professor who has recently died. The pianist was also the professor's student , so both were very touched themselves.

This is a beautiful, terribly sad and mournful tribute to his old mentor, Professor Kenes, who died in July of Covid-19. The professor wrote this song in honor of his sister who died at 19. He had an important part in Dimash's development as a singer and artist/composer. His loss took a big toll on Dimash and Kazakhstan. He is the second of Dimash's close friends to die from Covid. When Dimash was around 16, he asked the Professor if he could sing this song at a competition, but the professor refused, saying he didn't think Dimash was old enough or mature enough to capture the passion and sentiment in the song. About a year later, the Professor relented and Dimash did sing it. But this version is so special and devoid of anything that could be detrimental to the message of the song and the emotion and power with which it is conveyed. I have turned to this song more than once a day, when I think of lost loved ones from Covid or worry about the outcome of my beleagured country's presidential race. Hello Adam: i'm going through my favorite Demash videos, and reactions so naturally I return to your reactions again and again because they are so easy to attend(so to speak). It never sits well with me to have the music interrupted repeatedly during a reaction, but it seems quite common. For me it ruins the point of hearing the entirety of a musical rendition, and miss the flow of the song. So I enjoy the style of your reactions, because it feels very much like a reflection of my own honest reaction to the artist , and the music.as a total experience before it is then analyzed as a piece of music, and artistry.. It seems a much more well thought out way of seeing the whole piece, and experience it . Thanks again for that respectful approach to music

Dimash restrains his range with such finesse in this song -- yet packs so much emotion into it. This economy of sound works like the words of a poet....every note, every syllable: each carries the weight of the world inside it. This was so sublime and emotionally dense that the things in his heart are pinned into ours.

Hi Adam, beautiful reaction to this beautiful performance. Yeah this was a very recent tribute show, albeit in an empty theatre. Dimash lost two of his mentors to covid in July and he was distraught for a few days, the gentleman projected on stage behind him was one of the two who passed, his beloved music teacher who composed this based on the poem you mentioned. Dimash sang this in 2016 at a concert to celebrate his 60th birthday (Vid is on YT) so this must have been very personal emotionally for him to perform. 👍👍👍😢😊

After hearing this from Dimash It's difficult to suggest another song. This was so moving that it's like we need a moment before going on. I was in tears before he finished the first verse. The pain, the loss is heard in every word and note by both Dimash and the pianist. If he had sung this before an audience and I were a member in that audience, once the song was completed I would not be able to stand and applaud. Not because it was not incredible. I would stand, turn to whomever was sitting next to me and hug them. It's a song that needs contemplation, reflection, not cheering. Enjoyed your reaction and all your reactions. Your words and your manners are refined and you are thoughtful. It is a pleasure watching you and listening to you. You are just as enjoyable as the people you react to.

This was a concert dedicated to the 60th anniversary of "Kazakhconcert". Dimash dedicated his performance to the great composer and Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kenes Duisekeyev. Kenes Duisekeyev was Dimash's teacher/mentor in the master's program of the Kazakh National University of Arts. The song’s history: Approximately 25 years ago, the Kazakh poet Shomishpay Sariev wrote the lyrics as a poem and dedicated it to his daughter, who was getting married. It is about a father’s feelings, his worries about how the life of his daughter with her new husband will be, what will lay ahead for her. He shares the meaning of life with his daughter and argues that the most important meaning of life is love. A life lived without love is empty. The poet asks: "All life lived without love is equivalent to one day lived in love!" It is always sad to leave home and cross the threshold of someone else’s house. That is why it is a bit of a sad moment for the daughter too. So, the tears of the girl are not from grief, but the regret of having to part with the native village, family, and friends. Poet Shomishpay Sariev asked his friend, famous Kazakh composer Kenes Duisekeev, mentioned above, to write music to his poem. The composer was inspired by the memories of his only sister, who did not have time to get married and died at the age of 19. He dreamed what a father would have felt if she would have married. Therefore, the song turned out not only about the poet’s daughter, who is getting married but about the composer’s sister, who did not live to see her wedding. Therefore, the song feels the sorrow, the sadness of failed love. Dimash asked permission to sing this song when he was still in his teens; the composer was reluctant to give his blessing because he believed that someone so young couldn't possibly understand the emotions well enough to do the song justice. However, after discussing it with Dimash and Dimash's teachers, he gave his permission. Dimash’s interpretation and performance honored the song, and the composer was so moved by it that he applauded with the words "Bravo !!!" He would become a teacher, mentor, and friend to Dimash. He is the man in the photos, whose life was honored, and his passing from COVID was mourned at this concert.

You should have listen (and react to) Dimash from the beginning from the videos at your disposal on YTb... It's wonderful to see and agnoledge his growth through music and several performances since that chinese contest in 2017 where every session he was able to sing a diferent song in a different language that is not of it's own (or before that during more then his 100 contest preformaces) till now... It's amazing. It's a testemony of how a star can be born and rise above all of those with tecnical modulations and multimilionaire producers, etc. and in the end we don't see any juice... From Dimash, he's well culturated and formed in the world of music, and every time there's something overwelming or new and even heavenly carismatic. We can close our eyes and just listen, open our soul and we're transported through another dimention... as simple as that. Pure joy and inlighment in his voice. (ok, I give up... he's very handson and sexy too).

Have you reacted to Dimash's version of Adagio yet? I love so many of his performances, but I think that's my favorite. In some ways, I regard the version performed on I Am a Singer as the most intense and impressive vocal performance I have ever seen.

I think one of the aspects of Dimash that magnetizes so many people to him is his genuine spirit - no pretense, no putting on a show for attention - what you see is what he is down to his soul, which he freely and passionately shares with anyone who is willing to accept. He also feels loss so very deeply, especially when it's someone he knew personally, or in the case of Quairan Elim, his own country, and he never hesitates to use his art to mourn and express his love and pain for who he's lost in beautifully exquisite ways. We saw it when Denis Ten was killed, and now in this song after the death of his valued and respected Mentor, Kenes Duisekeev.

I love this. I can’t even listen to the other one now. The first time he did this song it was a little more up tempo and of course not as devastatingly sad and emotional as this. A daughter leaving to get married is not as tragic as losing your mentor. The pianist was also very close to kenes so they were both grieving which is why you felt the connection.

Too much emotion for me. The loss of a mentor by Covid must have been very painful for him, as it has been for everyone.
