Ed cut his teeth on the UK grime battle rap scene, a platform that was kind of established by Jamal. The "you need me man I dont need you" is actually footage of the original recording booth of the first really viral ed rap video on SBTV. Def watch it if you haven't seen it. He talks about Jamal feeling abandoned by the scene because Jamal gave a platform to SO many big UK rappers who went on to have careers because of him, but then SBTV kind of faded in popularity. He also references not knowing his best mate was struggling with drug use and he didn't even know it - "you'd bail me up if you ever saw me more than drunk". Every line of this - deep cuts. "You know FOR LIFE I've got your sis & mother". That's love. And he means it. Thanks for your reaction. This song hits me the same, every time. Appreciate you sharing.
