Great song love it thanks Brandy for your reaction I always thought of this song in a romantic way...at the end he sings...If l can't have your loving there will be nothing left behind and other lyrics that are very insinuating to a love he wants, but never thought of it as you said another prespective. James Taylor wrote the tune as kind of a spoof on moder-day blues songs. James Burton tearing it up on lead guitar. "hefty hunk of steamy junk..." Whew!

In an interview about the song & Elvis singing it Dano, James Taylor said that after seeing Presley perform his song at this concert he started to sing it the Presley way. That's the magic of Elvis -- he didn't write his own songs but he interpreted them & often did it where the songwriter realized the work's true potential. Not many can do this. Sinatra & Dean Martin could, Nat King Cole could, Johnny Mathis, Tom Jones & Billie Holiday too. But in my opinion, not The Beatles. They weren't ideal interpreters of other people's songs.
