Compared with clothing, the gunpowder used for blasting and the post-production special effects may cost more. Because the clothing is used for shooting, the material is quite poor , and several sets of the same are prepared at the same time to prevent damage during photography, which makes it impossible to shoot. What I love about Kamen Rider Dragon Knight (the last American season) is that it was really popular in Japan. Its not only been dubbed in Japanese (and is currently available on streaming & DVD there), but also has a Stage show and sequel novel that are both exclusive to Japan.
There was a law in Japan around the 2000's that prohibited the use of bike stuntwork on open roads, this is why the bikes in Kamen Rider are seen less in the openings and shows, when you see the bike on rare occasions it's usually CGI or filmed on a set instead of open road.
The regulations were put in place to stop customised biker gangs from causing havoc across japan. They would remove safety features and make their bikes massive and complex which would lead to many deaths and accidents in the 90s and early 2000s, that's why rider had to cut back on bikes as the cosmetics they would use to make each bike unique to the rider were in violation of those laws
The reason for less bikes scenes was because Japan got stricter with bike stuns, which can influence kids doing dangerous stuffs since more children were into the franchise (which why early shows were dark and full of dramas compared to the later ones), that's why they do very few bike scenes but haven't completely removed them since it's still the important concept of the whole franchise.
Actually the Kamen rider Amazon jungle stuff was actually shot in one of the many greenhouses around Japan. The national botanical gardens are in Tokyo and every city in Japan has botanical gardens or arboretums. Actually Kamen Rider is shot on a filming set in Tokyo custom made by Toei so is super sentai. If they need forest shot they literally go to a green house or the kiso valley which isn’t that far out of Tokyo.

The Robocop comparison reminds me of the Metal Heroes show called Space Sheriff Gavan (self-explanatory). New viewer here. The best way I can describe Kamen Rider is think Power Rangers or Super Sentai but each season is focused around one ranger entirely. Each Kamen Rider is their own rider. They don't upgrade to the next season's rider. The later seasons in the Heisei era starting with Kuuga introduced more riders within their own seasons as friends or enemies. Sometimes, they'll have crossovers with super sentai seasons (mainly because they air in the same block as super sentai) and other kamen rider seasons for anniversaries or one-off movies.

Kamen Rider is Super Sentai's more edgy brother. Most of the time it has darker themes. One central theme of Kamen Rider is the Riders and the villains derive their power in a common place (most of the time). Example is Kamen Rider Ichigo, he was created by Shocker, the main villain faction. The main reason why the bikes weren't looking so hot on recent seasons is due to a law in Japan regarding custom bikes. I hope you delve into the Kamen Rider Transformations (Henshin).
When it comes to Kamen Rider, don't think of it as a team like PR or Super Sentai. Every series has a different formula/rule for the riders aside from the main one to keep it interesting. The Secondary Rider is usually the teammate. But just because a rider is the 2nd to show doesn't mean they are the Secondary, an example to this is in series Kabuto and Gotchard. Most of 3rd and/or 4th Riders starts off as a rival or enemy, some are teammates right away. I think the only series to now follow these formulas is Gaim.

The story of Kamen Rider as a franchise is quite interesting. If you don't mind me writing a Wikipedia's page long comment: Following the success of Godzilla, Japan saw a boon in the entertainment industry with the monster movie genre. Tsuburaya struck gold with the direct to TV series Ultra Q; which later introduced the story of an alien made of light, that helped humans fight against other aliens. That of course was Ultraman, and it absolutely shook Japan. It was impossibly big and successful on its first years. Rival networks scrambled to do something that could compete against it. It's when Toei hires Shotaro Ishinomori to write down something that could surpass it. There wasn't anyone better fit to. Ishinomori was already a living legend; with thousands of stories and characters under his belt, someone that could only be compared to Stan Lee. Ishinomori stood shoulder to shoulder with Osamu Tezuka and was considered a god of manga (sometimes even being credited as the inventor of Shoujo as a genre). As any kid that grew up during WW2, Ishinomori wanted to write tragic and cynical heroes that were disenfranchised about the government, and hated n4z1s. Not unlike Captain America and Hydra, there was also a theme about playing god and the effort of creating super soldiers. His first drafts (now historical documents) were about Cross of Fire, a hero that carried the burden of having the same origin as the villain, and Skullman, a hero that looked villanous and was very violent. Both of those ideas fell through during development because they wouldn't be super child friendly, but those themes still stuck in the final product. After a while, the theme of bugs was chosen because it was equal parts disturbing yet still friendly. Kamen Riders were all created to be evil, by companies lead by n4z1 and fascists, and that manage to get away with crime because they were infiltrated in the goverment. However, they aren't evil because for a reason or another, they see the light, and they cry because they have no choice other than kill their peers in order to save civilians. There's some kind of "your circumstances don't matter, you always have to choice to NOT be evil" While Ishinomori was alive, all Riders had this much in common. They were enhanced humans that fought their "parent" organizations because they were sullied with evil. Some seasons had shorter runs than others because censors thought they were too much, and it wasn't always profitable, but the mark that Kamen Rider left in society was undescribable, and I dare say that just about anything popular out of Japan has referenced it at least once. (Naruto has Lee and Guy, Bleach has Mashiro, One Piece has Sniper King, DBZ had Saiyaman, Pokémon had Team Skull, Digimon has Stingmon, etc, etc). They knew they had a giant IP, but it was kind of hard to market; hence why over the early years it had many hiatus and reboots. 'Skyrider' was originally a reboot. So were Black, ZO and Shin. The way Ishinomori wrote was obvious. He stuck gold again many times. He wrote Gorenger and kickstarted Super Sentai in the exact same way. It's a spy thriller with heroes taking the side of the UN because of what the Cold War was becoming. JAKQ was also kickstarted by him and it's also about human modification, but it was *too* dark for the even younger demographic and was cut short. After that Sentai didn't have Ishinomori's touch anymore, but he had already given them the concept in a silver platter and it's also *still* going. Eventually they managed to bring Kamen Rider back full force in the 2000's with Kuuga, and a bit dumbed down but more marketable. While the themes of fighting n4z1s were starting to get a bit old for newer audiences, they made it newer. The government was still not to be trusted, and even without the threat of fascism, big corporations were still the bane of mankind and would step on civilians for profit. Eventually capitalism is exchanged for other things. The militairy, scientists, whatever. The lesson of questioning those in power always stuck; and it is amazing that it is one of the series in Japan with the most staying power given how anti-authoritarian it is. Part of the staying power however is that ideals and morals are more of what makes a Rider a Rider than bugs or cyborgs, so the show has managed to thrive in all sorts of themes and motifs. The biggest change that stuck that was outside of Ishinomori's original plan was the addition of a rival/support Rider. When Fujioka, the actor that played the first Kamen Rider, broke his leg, they had to write in a substitute. This brought on a "it's possible to pass on the torch" feeling to a show that was supposed to be a cynical "one man against the storm" kind of story into something a bit more hopeful, and since then Riders have almost always had a foil or rival on his level.

fun fact: this franchise was declared to be dead in the 90's by its fans, that's why super sentai got great upgrades in every aspect in that era. but in 1999, with the arrival of Kuuga, kamen rider as a franchise, came back and become stronger than ever. that's why in the OP of Kuuga there's a catchphrase "A new hero, A new legend" to show that Kamen Rider series has reborn.

the 4 guys you see in both of the openings in Den-o aren't villains but part of the "personality" of the hero in Den-o just think of them as personas from Persona as they do outright possess the hero and each of them have different fighting styles and they are also based on Japanese folklore the Red one for example is based of Momotaro and all of the names of each of the main 4 are named after that Momotaro story

Kiva was my first jump into Kamen Rider back in the day, and ep 1 was all it took for me to become a fan and haven't stopped since. :3 Also, fun fact about Saber and its CG. The CG this time was actually done in Unreal Engine, mostly for them to cut costs and such, but also find a new way to integrate the cg into the shows now. Yes, its not the best, but its a new step. Heck, thanks to this, we got the CG background for King-Ohger where they take a page from The Mandalorian and have it set up like they do.

One easiest (but not always accurate) way to distinct Kamen Rider and Super Sentai/PR is that a Kamen Rider strength is like equal to a whole team of Sentai. It's not accurate because, super sentai member's strength is not always distributed equally across the board. Sometimes one or two member carried the team, or sometimes they're all strong enough make it unfair comparison againts kamen rider. But, you get the point, while Sentai/Ranger is a Hero Team, Kamen Rider is usually solo fighter, even when there is multiple Kamen Rider, they usually have their own goals and ideology, resulting in rivalry or even straight up making enemies.
Though recently, they started to team up like a sentai, when done right it's all fine, but oftentimes it's just "choose your side" situation where they just straight up teaming instead of like alliance, which is less interesting.

Kamen rider actually predate the first Super Sentai by a few years. The first series, Goranger, was originally going to be a new series of Kamen Rider, but the creator changed it to a team of government cyborg agents fighting terrorists. Shotaro Ishinomori is basically Japan's answer to Stan Lee, having created several classic heroes, including Cyborg 009, inazuman, Zubatt, and kikaider being chief among them. Titangoji and Blunova do great retrospective videos about the franchise and how important it is in Japan along with Ultraman, sentai, and Godzilla.
The thing with Kamen Rider over the years. -After Black RX, the franchise went on a hiatus until 1999 with Kuuga starting the Heisei series of Kamen Rider. Zero-One would have started the Reiwa era which is the current era, with Gotchard being the current season. During the hiatus, they released movies like ZO, J and Shin. As of 2024, the franchise has been going for 53 years. -Stronger introduces the concept of changing forms which is further used in Black RX and became a norm since then. -Since Agito and especially in Ryuki, it has become a norm to have multiple Riders in a season. -Since Decade, the franchise has been slowly focusing on gimmicks and toy sales, especially during early season to maximize Christmas profits. So, other than the standard toys, there will be Legend Rider series that is past Riders styled based on the current season's gimmick. Don't get me started on P-Bandai. -Since the 2000s, Japan has a strict regulation on customised bike stunts. Thats why there are lesser bike stunts. Heck, Revice doesn't even have a bike. Instead, one of Vice's forms is a hoverbike which is based on the real thing. Extra fact: The reason Saber looks like a video game is because it is made in the middle of the COVID lockdown. They made up this Wonder World with Unreal Engine to get pass restrictions. The lockdown also affected production on Zero-One, causing its final third to be completely rewritten and a handful of episodes being recaps.
If you ever want to get into Kamen Rider and don't know where to start, I highly recommend Geats (Squid Game, but Kamen Riders) if you want something very recent, W (A detective story, but with Kamen Riders)/OOO (A Kamen Rider show about greed and desire, with a selfless protagonist) for something a little older, and Kabuto (A Kamen Rider show about fighting alien dopplegangers, many of which can move at Mach-3 speeds) for a show that's old enough to drink.

So good in fact, this adaptation was accepted by Japan and they brought it over and dubbed it in Japanese for Japanese viewers to watch it. After ultraman showed that tv tokusatsu was a viable option toei asked legendary manga creator shotaro ishinomori to create a hero for their upcoming superhero program, originally called “skullman” it was changed to a grasshopper motif when the new design proved much easier for children to draw. Super sentai was created a few years later as an idea of a team of kamen riders. After black rx in 88 kamen rider was taken off the air, not able to make enough money to justify making a new season. Ishinomori started working to revive the series however he sadly passed away in 98 before he could see the series return with kuuga in 2000. (This is that “jump in quality” you saw). Being “sister shows” kamen rider and super sentai are quite similar but have distinctions that make them unique. While sentai is several heros fighting as one (the megazord is an overt symbol of this), kamen rider is often about a lone hero fighting alone. While other rider appear they aren’t on the same team but sometimes they face the same direction. Kamen rider almost went off the air a second time. After a ratings decline in the early 2000s it was decided to give the potential last season, kabuto, everything they had. The season came out phenomenally, was renewed and the next years den-o made kamen rider even more popular. The series has been pretty safe since. I suggest you start with one of the Heisei era riders (Kuuga to Zi-O) with the best entry to this franchise I believe are: 1. Kamen Rider OOO (great to be introduced with the form changes and toys that came with this era) 2. Kamen Rider Den-O (great story overall. One of the most beloved franchises of all time. Even had spinoffs) 3. Kamen Rider Gaim (good introduction to the other series with multiple riders. One of the best written) 4. Kamen Rider Decade (As an anniversary series, you can dip your feet into what the other series are) Particularly great followups: 1. Kamen Rider Build 2. Kamen Rider Kabuto 3. Kamen Rider Double (I still cry at the ending bruh) Then after tasting the Heisei era, go ahead and watch the Reiwa era (Zero-one to Gotchard). Zero-one and Geats are bangers to start with there. Then if you fancy it, go and watch the Showa ones

So the first Rider was created to serve as a weapon for Shocker, then he escaped to fight against them. Shocker tried to make another Rider, who also started to fight against them. V3 wanted to become a cyborg willingly but 1 and 2 refused to do the operation but after V3 was wounded they had to perform the surgery to save his life.
For kamen rider after the showa; the heisei riders have form changes. Like the ones you saw with kuuga are multiply forms. And for den-o; the ones you thought was the villains in the second opening aren't villains. They're like demons that posses den-o to help him fight better while giving him multiply personalities. Like the blue ones makes him flamboyant and flirty with the ladies and the red one makes him hot headed and a bit cocky, ect.

Im not sure why the second gotchard opening was omitted while climax jump liner form was included. The second version of ChemyxStory is so good and it also shows the other two riders fighting alongside gotchard in the OP. You should check it out along with the current sentai season's opening, Boonboonger.
A lot of Rider/Sentai and Ultraman actors are alumni of the yearly Junon Superboy contest. It's like a yearly male hearthrob contest in Japan. A lot of them go on to be popular in other series, TV shows, movie and BL shows.
