It doesnt seem like anyone explained "Ah Yeah" to you, Its a song about sexual harrassment in the work place, so the girl in white (Hani) is what men think women are thinking about them. The girl in black (LE) is what they really are thinking. How it makes them uncomfortable. You got a lot right too! Because it is also about how women are over sexualized, and things that are supposed to be innocent are censored even when they dont need to be. So yeah! Youre pretty clever.

Ah Yeah’s music video is actually a response to how Korean broadcasting treated one of their prior most popular releases, Up & Down! That song’s music video got banned from broadcast because the dance was “too sexy” (which is a huge double standard), so EXID came back with Ah Yeah to really spell out that they weren’t being overly sexual; they were being sexualized by the media’s censorship. And to top it off, the lyrics are about confronting unwanted attention from men!!

EXID is not for everyone ngl. Their songs are a hit or miss for me but their mini album ECLIPSE is by far the best rnb album I've heard in my experience in kpop (since 2nd gen) hands down. Eclipse mini album is just above Perfect Velvet (Red Velvet) for me in terms of overall album cohesiveness.

They got famous for one of their fancams, for the song Up and Down, where you see Hani, one of them thrusting her hips, but that also saved the group, because they got attention and released some more catchy songs. Hani got famous for the fancam but got more attention, because (kinda) like hwasa, she was the IT girl back then, and korea has a lot of variety shows (shows where they talk about various topics, or play games etc.). So she kinda carried the group from that perspective. In other groups its normal if you do something solo you get all he money. But hani splitted everything with her members, because she was thankful they got famous but also felt a little bad that she got the spotlight and also she is a kind person. LE writes a lot of their songs (the rapper) and is more laid back, she also trained 1-2 other idol rappers, but i can`remember who. Junghwa, the one that mostly does the talksinging, improved over time, but she did more acting, and now that EXID are all in different agencies, she is persuing more that route. Hyelin is a jokester and besides Solji (the one which you said had a "high pitched" voice) is one of the better singers in the group. Hyelin is the lead singer and Solji the main vocal. Solji had hyperthroidism and had to get that treated, but also got side effects and had also to recover from that, because of that, she did not participate in any activity for over a year. Solji once was the voice / singing teacher for the girls. At first EXID consisted of other people, but 3 left the group, they changed agencies, got Solji into the group and i tink Hyelin and with the other 3 mentioned above continued as EXID. Up and Down was also to be the last song EXID did, because they did not get famous, their did not want to do much more for them. But after they got famous that changed. Solji is just on another level vocally. If you want to be impressed, you need to see her singing live

The one who you said her voice placement is very high, was actually their vocal coach before she became a part of the group, Solji. This group actually has a very varying discography if you plan to look into them more, so just know no two songs are the same lol. The rapper LE produced and wrote many of their songs, along with songs for other artists. And you were right about "Ah Yeah" and censorship and over sexulization. It's about women voicing frustration when guys just won’t take a hint but women are still expected to be nice to them because they think that being male means they have a right to whoever they want. The “Where do you live? Do you live alone?” is an emphasis on creeps. They're no longer truly active as a group (it's complicated), but they do have some good stuff.

Little fun fact. Before LE (pronounced 'Elly' btw) became main rapper for EXID and songwriter for a whole bunch of artists, she was in the underground rap scene with a group called Jiggy Fellaz where she went by the name, well, Elly. Her rapping is amazing for a good reason. Being the only girl in that group at a very young age in the underground scene while being surrounded by many talented rappers tends to do something.

So, this may get long, sorry! For Ah Yeah, they came out with the song after a lot of criticism for their concept and especially the dance that got them famous (Up & Down), so the video is basically about the double standard for women being censored in media, or told to not be too sexy. So throughout the video certain things (and parts) are censored, but at the end they take off the censorship to show that it's really nothing big. Also, there's a section where they dance in front of mannequins and there are labels covering their chest and hips because in a lot of music shows in Korea, they can't show too much skin, and if they do they get told off, cancelled, told to change their choreo, whereas male groups get away with a lot more overtly sexual dance moves. The song itself is about how women can be nice or act "flirty" but thats not an invitation for men to be creepy. Basically, it's a song expressing the frustration that comes with men not taking a hint, but women having to be kind in most situations which lots of men may take as an invitation to continue pursuing a woman even when she says no. So the "where do you live do you live alone" is just to emphasize how some men act creepy when women don't particularly encourage it. And it's also commentary on how they should be able to wear whatever, and its not an invitation to be stared at etc. You were pretty on the mark for some of the questions/analysis of Ah Yeah you gave! (Oh and I personally love the songs Night Rather Than Day, Boy (which is a b-side of the album), DDD, and I Love You.)

LE is one of the strongest rappers in kpop... also she writes and produces a lot of their songs. I have so much respect for this group for sooo many reasons. They really have been thru hell and back.

EXID along with Apink is basically all that remains from 2nd gen as far as girl groups that are still active today, and even then EXID is more like semi-active as all the members left their Korean agency in 2019 but somehow managed to make a few releases here and there thanks to their Japanese contract. EXID went through a big lineup change in their first few months after debut in 2012, and one of the current member, Solji, actually had a small career in a duo before that and used to be the vocal coach of the initial lineup before joining the group itself. I think a lot of people would agree that Solji and another member Hyelin are among the best vocalists kpop has ever offered, especially Solji who has demonstrated it multiple times in King of Masked Singer (she is the first winner of that show) and Immortal Songs. Their rapper LE is also greatly influental in that she used to be an underground rapper with great skills and she composed/wrote/produced a lot of songs for EXID and other artists. She is also the rap mentor of Hyuna (Wonder Girls, 4Minute) who herself influenced a lot of kpop rappers like CLC's Ye Eun, so there is a significant chance that you hear a lot of rappers in kpop who have a similar flow to LE for that reason. EXID is also famous for having an unusual story about how the group came to success as they struggled a lot for the first few years before a fancam of one of their members, Hani, dancing to one of their songs which initially flopped (Up and Down), went viral and earned them their first win months after release and placed them on the map.

Ahhh, EXID always bring catchy bops IMO. Every Night is one of their earliest songs and did not get enough appreciation when it was released (they did not blow up for a VERY LONG time), I'd definitely recommend that. I personally love Night Rather Than Day, though it's one of the songs they did while Solji was dealing with health troubles and they had to work as 4. (Actually, that whole album is fantastic and I was definitely Solji biased back in the day, so it speaks to how good it was that I was still head over heels).

BTW, if you watch some more EXID MVs, especially the ones that came out between 2016 and 2018, you'll notice there are only 4 members in those. That's because Solji took an extended hiatus to take care of her hyperthyroidism. Her final comeback before the hiatus was "L.I.E.", and her first comeback after the hiatus was "I Love You".

Unfortunately she suffered from hyperthyroidism for a while so she was absent from a few comebacks. However, that allowed Hyelin, their lead vocal, to have some time to shine. She's so underappreciated. I also really love Hani's tone. It's a little huskier, more jazzy. And you got the meaning behind Ah Yeah right. I remember being like 17 or something when this came out and I loved it because I have actually experienced men, much older than me, asking me these creepy questions at like the bus stop (where do you live? Do you live alone?) And just...This song says SO MUCH yet often goes ignored by new fans for their song Up and Down, which a few years after it's release blew up again because of a members (Hani) fancam going viral. (Which was lucky for then since back then they were about to disband) I still wish people paid more attention to their other older songs too.

EXID was my second girl group (first one was 2NE1) I started to stan when I was getting into kpop 6 years ago. I would like to suggest to react Brown Eyed Girls they have confusing concepts and interesting voices, they older then EXID girls, debuted in 2006 and still active. Other than Mamamoo, EXID is the only group that I hear all of their songs, till now...

These girls luckily found success at what was to be their last attempt and it was months after the original release of the song Up & Down and it was all due to member Hani having a fancam go viral. She started the popularity of fan cams. Up and Down became their signature sound. And you can definitely hear and see the influence in a lot of their subsequent tracks. My favourites if theirs are DDD, I love you and night rather than day.

EXID is definitely a group that's hit or miss for some. They definitely had a more "sexy" concept which conservative Korean broadcasting did not enjoy so like. I like their songs, however I definitely had similar reactions as you about the MVs.

EXID is definitely one you need to listen live, especially Solji, her vocals are stable and piercing. Funfact, Solji was actually the group's vocal coach before the ended up joining the group. Also need to check out Hani's "Honey" performance on King of Masked singer, her voice will suprise you. As for "Ah Yeah" the music video and song itself has 2 different meanings. The song is more about a guy coming on to a girl when she clearly isn't interested. While the MV is tackling more on the issue of censorship. Its partly in response to some broadcasting stations banning their choreography for their previous song as being too sexy, and there is a bit of a double standard in the industry, because boys can grind on the floor and its fine, but girls can't move their hips a certain way? I think in a way they're showing how some censorship is unnecessarily making things seem worse than they really are. Like when you look at the opening dance, their lower half is blurred out, society has trained you to think "Oh! That's blurred because its scandalous" and throughout the MV, you see various images also being blurred and censored, and it makes you assume there's probably something we shouldn't be seeing underneath it. But then later on, you see the censor being removed and what's revealed wasn't bad at all, most of it was just cute pictures, but we thought it was bad because it was blurred out. So perhaps things are only perceived as bad because we make it out to be? I'm not very good at explaining what I mean, but basically, yes oversexualization is a problem but also, sometimes we're made to see things as sexual when it really isn't. EXID has always portrayed a more mature image because that's part of their concept. They debuted during a time when sexier girl groups where more commonplace. Age wise they're actually roughly around the same as as Mamamoo.

As a kpop fan following other groups, the one song that I remember was huge from them was "Up & Down" it's just super catchy and the choreo is iconic now. So I would have recommended to watch that one.

It’s funny you mentioned how high Solji’s placement is. She’s actually talked about that on a variety show before. Their rapper L.E writes and produces all their music (same as Soyeon from G-Idle), and apparently she’s always giving her these really high parts in their songs. Shes a fantastic singer so she always nails them, but she was kind of complaining about it. I don’t know how they go as far as copyright, but I would agree with the other comments that you would really appreciate Solji’s masked singer performances.

위아래 (Up & Down) is the ringtone on my cellphone. EXID is a girl group that managed somehow to raise to popularity but could have been easily forgotten, it's a group that strived for a kind of "retro" sound mixed with messages of woman empowerment. Their songs are kind of simple with almost desperately high vocals by Solji, songs producer by a Soyeon before Soyeon in LE, and embraced by all the members, Hyelin that had to step up while Solji was away, Hani that has been the face of the group with her sexy quirkiness (possibly the first idol I've seen, in a RU-vid video that nothing has to do with Kpop) and the main dancer Jeonghwa. The reason that song is my ringtone is that that song was almost their last urrah if it wasn't for a fancam, in a period when some members had to take part-time jobs to keep their dream alive and had to paint black their shoes to sing ending their performances, when they managed to do so, with paint on their feet. EXID was the sexy group and fully embraced it making it an empowering message of emancipation. They have left their Korean label last year and they might be able to keep the group afloat thanks to a Japanese label. Hani posted a story with a possible comeback date, we shall see.

About their songs: they are not the most experimental group and the usual critique for them is that their songs mostly sound the same, they go for a very pop sound with retro ('80s/'90s/early' 00 dance) sprinkled here and there so they are immediately recognizable but unimpressive if you just don't vibe with it. I personally cherish EXID in my heart but I guess they can be a polarizing group sound wise.

I would recommend DDD its a great song, showcasing them a lot, but they are a very mature and quirky kind off girlcrush, not many groups like them. you asked for vocal groups, I would recommend GUGUDAN they are extremely gifted vocalists, sadly under a label that don't really know what to do with them so they have been on hiatus for two years, but well worth a listen, for pure vocals, try Sejeong (from gugudan she is still active as a soloist) with Plant, or well any song by her :)

First off, you should definitely react to King of Masked Singer (KOMS) performances from idols like Mamamoo, Red Velvet, and EXID, the singers compete while wearing masks. Also Begin Again performances by Suhyun (AKMU), Sohyang, and others. Second, EXID's title tracks are definitely hit or miss, and Hani's talent in particular is buried as the songs are not in her comfortable range. Third, Solji is probably one of the best idol singers, though she's mainly a soloist now.
