They take inspiration from each other but the main difference is Korean makeup focuses of natural looks and eyes, chinese makeup is more making yourself more like a doll, like a perfect human face and more out there eye looks compared to the more toned down eyes in Korean makeup
it's pretty easy korean makeup is too natural and became boring and chinese makeup is extreme in sparkling and contour and looking entirely different at the end
@@umm3766 the thing is korean makeup is all about enhancing the already present features of their faces may it be natural or a product of surgeries while douyin is all about looking like a doll and faking the surgery through the power of makeup
It’s so annoying that people think chinese makeup and beauty trends are korean, I get it when people unfamiliar with asian culture make this mistake, but many kpop stans do that too. I loved your reaction Eddy as always, very chill and drama free.
I feel like the kpop fans that don't know the difference are that way because they're shallow fans. It's more about the aesthetic of being a stan for them than it is about the music.
@@Ipromiseyounobodyismad I guess it's because both are different so normally kpop stand don't mix it up as they are too much into kpop whether it's makeup or dresses or the vibe asthetics etc so it can annoyed people
people keep getting mixed up chinese makeup and korean makeup 😭 chinese makeup always looks glam but soft at the same time, while korean makeup is more on natural look. I was scrolling on weibo and douyin before and most people are upset because of the same reason 😬 i wish people would know the difference between the two
as a korean, this guy is just so relatable. he knows everything! the whole "koreans most likely do cleanser toner maybe serum and moisturizer mainly at night" why...how- he knows EVERYTHING.
I'm also surprised that people who are into K-beauty don't talk about JSM either. I remember following her over a decade ago. Maybe in like 2010 or 2011? I always enjoyed how she did her videos because it was different from just a beauty video. It felt like you were taking a makeup class rather than someone just doing a look if that makes sense. Love her and her products. She knows what's up!
i know eddie has been doing kbeauty for a long time, but it's always so enjoyable listening to someone who's well informed on a subject. I actually learned much more about k beauty from this video(eg about jung saemool)
Thank you so so much for acknowledging us very pale girlies here in the west. It is so hard to find shades light enough in the brands i like a lot of the times and i feel like its not talked about as much. Obviously we have it better than those with very dark skin tones, but i feel like each of the extremes is rarely acknowledged in western beauty shade ranges.😅
Even here in Sweden, where most people are on the paler side, even when buying Swedish brands, everything is too dark for me, and I'm not even that unusually pale...
@@aspannasidk if Sweden has the brand “collection” but I’ve found their light shades to be quite good, and they’re more pink toned than yellow so it doesn’t look so mask-y
honestly Edward is the only beauty content creator that i still watch even if the videos are 40 min long, just bc he gives so much useful information and knows his thing. When I was younger I'd sit through a whole bunch of beauty videos that don't teach anything just for fun, but now that I'm on my mid 20s I only enjoy this type of content, and Edward is great aswelll, very direct and funny, love him
@@kiyotan1048 well I look at the positive side of him. Cuz i don't give a single a damn about anyone being a bitch n giving reckless comments after "the predator" as u said have completely changed and being accountable with his issue.
@@kiyotan1048 looking back, james' "crimes" is not that deep. He is of the same age group of those who he flirted with. 19 and 17 is not that big of an age gap maturity wise. He was just being a dumb teen and made alot of impulsive choices.
i'm so glad you posted this. i saw this this morning but didn't want to click on james charles channel myself 😂edit: to add, this isn't shade at james charles, his content just isn't typically for me so i didn't want it in my suggesteds
I think the internet needs to move on like we did with Edward. People make mistakes and they learn from them. No need to shade anyone who owned up their mistakes and is actively learning to become better
@@georgeoustHow has he learned though? Only thing I've seen is him admitting to sexting minors, then taking it back and everyone trying to brush it under the rug.
K-beauty definitely “grew up” like in 2015 it was young and bubbly “I am fresh into the world” type beat. Now its like “I got a 9-5 job and bills to pay but I finna make it look like it’s easy” type lewk~
honestly just glad that i could watch james’ video through here lmao but i think it’s more just trying the actual makeup and less the makeup trend cuz the end result still looks like western style makeup
thats crazy eddie has been in korea since 2011 and i was 9 in 2011 and now in 2023 im watching on a weekly basis(or whenever he posts, or me just going back to the past to watch his old vids)
@@foxwaffleswe are the same person because I have SO MUCH baby fat that makes my cheeks droop and makes me have a fat face, that woman is my biblical saviour istg if I want to try something new, I go to her first 😭 even on my very tanned brown Asian skin, idk how she makes it SO EASY to replicate on different skin tones??? How is she so damn good???
@@KawaiiKermit I have zero forehead, too much mid face and chin, and my jaw looks bloated because I just found out I grind my teeth and night and my muscles are 💪💀 I'm trying to get jaw Botox approved so I don't have to pay hand over fist for it so I don't hurt my teeth and so my face can look normal again but in the meantime all hail queen Minsco
I also like to mention the reason for the lack of diverse skin tones for foundation is because of Asian beauty standards. The beauty for having fair to pale skin is very much popular. Especially in South Korea.
@helenb.9742: you are the type of person to lack a complete sense of sarcasm and take everything at face-value; take care and brush your unkempt hair since you are bothered😘
@@helenb.9742your tone is 💯passive-aggressive with your quotes and choice of syntax. If someone is pointing out any bullies, the self-reflection from your askewed mirror is ground-zero #stopbullies
@helenb.9742: there is no question written as well as no “?-mark” at any end of your sentences within any part of your initial response so it is intriguing how you are framing it as such in your 2nd response. whatever you need to do to sleep better at night in order to justify your passive-aggressiveness to others; however, the lack of self-awareness in your passive-aggressive-syntax is astounding. sweet dreams #stopbullies
the thing eddie said abt the foundation tone is so true. i was always using the lightest shade in western brands and it was still too dark for me. when i got into kbeauty i finally found foundation that suited my skin tone (even tho it ended up still being the lightest tone again lmfao)
I definitely buy my foundations from kbeauty brands because it's nearly impossible for me to find a pale enough shade from western brands. And I'm a big fan of cushion foundations and bb-creams.
Love love loveee this video so much! I’ve never been into James Charles’ makeup tutorials but this episode was pretty refreshing coz it was coupled with Edward’s professional opinion, suggestions and breaking down of the kbeauty subject - defo learnt alot. Please do more of such reaction videos!
Thanks for info on the masking effect! I’ve always wondered why it’s so hard to find my match or why it looks off. Even had Sephora scan me with their tone match thingy and it recommended me things too dark.
I just wanted to point out that this is my first time watching Edward and he is so bold 😭like bro, he is not afraid of anyone coming for him, honestly I respect that
OMG thank you so much for this video! I recentle started to share some info about Korean beauty on my inst, so i needed all the fresh details, that you said!!!
hi eddie im a cool toned/neutral pale girlie with deep set hooded eyes and i always noticed that lighter shades looked weird on my eyes so a lot of the comments you made in the video really were eye openers! i love hearing about how you can change makeup to suit your features
Eddie's reaction, not just entertaining but so informational. I came in expecting entertainment but I go away filled with more current makeup info. Win-win.
It reminds me, like you said, very 2013/14- when I was just discovering K-beauty (Etude coffee pallet, 3ce mini pallets..). But I have to admit, I liked that style better than what is popular today.
You are so real ed!!!! 😩 it’s literally my forever struggle to try that drawn on lower lash shit on douyin and I thought I’m just dumb and it feels much better knowing someone validated my concern and confirm that shit is hard af and does not look natural in person 😩
I'm Asian and yeah.. the Too Cool for School contour palette is indeed too orange for me. Also would love to see a video more about aegyo sal makeup. I'm learning so much from Eddie
this was actually so informative! edit: maybe James should have had you in his video itself, because your input made the viewing experience so much more interesting. edit2: would like recommendations for lip products that aren't glossy and is natural looking for pigmented lips!!
i like to seperate drama from the makeup artist because the drama they are in doesn’t make them not have talent! now i used to go to school with a girl and both siblings from korea and they did very simple looks and their faces never looked too wet very tone down! koreans are stunning the makeup is too and i feel like just as well with other countries makeup and style it can be hard to perfect even though! i do like that he did the research i bought a lip tint from a korean brand and i tried the ombre lip and i messed up on application so i am glad he looked at tutorials because i didn’t for simple lip tint!! i’m so happy westerners and other countries are trying korean makeup and each other’s makeup because it allows us to go out of our comfort zone!! and too edward i been watching you for a long mf timeeeee your so amazing and talented and creative and smart and i love how much care and passion you have in your work!! you make me feel so much happier about life simply by seeing content from you!! i love how you critiqued his video pointed out the incorrect and correct things about the product and things he is saying within the video💜💗
