I remember when I was young, a friend of the family showed me his war wound. The entry and exit bullet points in his thigh from his time in Vietnam. Giant, nasty looking scar tissue. My mother told me that his wife said that he would wake up in the middle of the night screaming and he once almost hurt his wife bad during one of those night terrors.

Search for interviews with Marcus Luttrell. Most of the story took place after the fall down the side of the mountain. Marcus crawled for 7 days. An estimated 7 miles. He crawled because he had no feeling in his legs.

And Marcus was really pleased he said with how this came out. He was hesitant about the falls down the cliffs and stuff and when he saw it he was floored cause they was went for it the stunt doubles just killed their bodies and were amazing in the falls

Here's a short version of many speeches and interviews he's given if you're curious to learn more. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ttYZVFlCjOw.html

6:40 is the real lone survivor, Marcus Luttrell. He has a few short scenes in this and wrote the memoir it is based on. The real story is even crazier than the movie. Stranded alone, basically paralyzed lower body from broken vertebrae, a grenade injured leg, two gunshot wounds and broken bones. Had to crawl along the mountainside to find water. And he was eventually rescued by two villagers and shuttled between houses for 4-5 days, even being hidden in a cave at some point, until the rescue teams could get to him. He ended up moving several of the people who helped him over to Texas near him for their protection. Amazing people. He tells the story on Joe Rogan’s podcast. It’s a real tear-jerker, but very much worth the listen.

Makes you wonder if all these military ops were in vain? So many soldiers and innocents lost lives just for the people who were not supposed to take control, that ended up taking control. So many families lost loved ones, never getting to see them again. That's more of a tragedy here, reality of conflict that has nothing to do with badassary and the machoness of the warrior spirit. It's about the humanity of it all, and how people can and always will be resilient and willing to help people in need regardless of who and what they are.

When he makes the call and when the cowards shoot him in the back… what’s crazy is they tried to recreate every shot the real guys had in their bodies as well. Before some of the families allowed this movie I think it was dietz? Dad had Michael burg sit and read his autopsy report and mission report. So he could know specifically what happened and how and where he was shot. And how brave he was. And how he wanted that reflected in the movie.

I recommend for everyone watch the viral real drone footage “the first ever recorded on film Medal of Honor actions of John Chapman” it’s the actual drone footage of John Chapman a JTAC with a SEAL team going back to rescue/recover their teamate that was knocked out of the back of the CH-47 Chinook when it was hit by an RPG. Helicopter flew 7 kms and crashed and a new one came with the remaining 6 teammates requesting to go back and rescue their fallen teammate, you see the events that lead to a 1 VS 27 firefight in the end that led to a Medal of Honor for John. It shows what these guys are truly made of, a different breed of human beings that can still fight hand to hand and with a rifle with 16 bullet and shrapnel wounds. Be a good memorial week watch for everyone and is truly unbelievable! 20:41 the old man the let go says “you will all be dead my nightfall” Lutrell said in a podcast he remembered the old man saying something to Murphy after cutting them loose and on the hike up the other side pre-fire fight he asked what the man said as Murphy knew a bit of the language and he replied something to the effect of “you’ll all be dead by nightfall”. They already cut the 2 kids loose by then and we’re out of sight but he knew then he’ll was comming.

After the Chinook helicopter was shot down, Army Rangers were deployed to assist Air Force Pararescuemen in the recovery of the bodies and the rescue of Marcus Luttrell. I've heard a rumor before saying that locals and talibans in the region heard helicopter noises (during the Navy SEALs' insertion) and are already suspicious that some American forces were in the area. If that's true then the SEALs' special reconnaissance mission has failed even before it started.

I've read a couple of what I thought were nasty articles calling into question Marcus's book and the details in it. I don't remember all their gripes but one was that they didn't face off against as many Taliban as depicted in the film. I don't know, I wasn't there, but I do believe they were way outnumbered even if it wasn't as many as shown in the film. I've read the book Marcus wrote, I enjoyed it, the information side of it, but I didn't enjoy the writing style. I would still recommend it though. I think the guys were shot up even more than the film portrays, which is crazy. And how anyone survived two falls down that mountain, wtf is that? That's just crazy. I love the film, tears me up every time I see it. There is an Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer named after Michael: USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112), commissioned in 2012.

"Midway" goes a little CGI crazy and the dialogue at times is a little hyper patriotic (meaning it sounds like a Hollywood script where they're trying to make every line into a Hero Quote TM and ends up sounds unrealistic at times). But it's worth watching because the facts of the battle and every individual characters' accomplishments/fate are 100% accurate. You watch the battle scenes and think, this is 100% fake. Nobody could be that good or that amount of enemy fire is just special effects. Except no, that's literally what that person did and, yes, the incoming fire in WWII did look like that. It's worth watching for the realism of the battle and stunning individuals alone, even if the CGI and dialogue gets a bit clunky. It's also as important as D-Day was for the Pacific Theater. We don't appreciate enough about the Pacific and Midway is an absolute miracle of a battle. I did a paper on it in university for how so many tiny things happened JUST right to allow a miracle and how it changed the course of the war. You should also watch Flags of Our Fathers and Iwo Jima. Fabulously well done movies. Plus, they tell the same story but from opposite sides - and feature shared scenes or scenes shot from opposing perspectives because they were filmed by the same director. Very well done.

And i know theres always days where marxus Luttrell feels like it shouldv been him instead and they wouldve been all the same way no matter the surcumstances and we all feel that!! But then nothing wouldve worked out the same way as it did to be in front of us all and be known about the operation & the story 💎💎 i know i got a few brothers that im like that with and its like the navy seal guy said "id like to depend on my brother & id like them to depend on me" i feel that soooo much

You guys need to understand the movie was not dramatized it was actually toned down from reality. It was a lot worse in real life. I had an opportunity to talk to Marcus and Morgan That’s exactly what Marcus said. I’m very happy that Morgan got elected to office. I hope someday Marcus will run for politics but I don’t think he will. But we need people like him desperately.

@White Noise Reacts when they let the goat herders go the old man said “Hear this, your deaths will be tonight” and then he said it again. Most if not all those people in the village were Taliban but rules of engagement are what they are and you can’t do much about them. Also you should read the book it goes way deeper into the story and some of the movie stuff is inaccurate. Y’all have a blessed day.

It's part of the culture. If you ask for help, they can't by their.. "laws" refuse you help or protect you. Unless they're Taliban. They don't play by those rules.

35:34 “that’s crazy he’s still alive.” In the book, Marcus said that when he looked at Axe shot in the head, he know Axe was dead. He’d already been shot 5 or 6 times and then in the head. Marcus said he knew Axe was dead, Axe’s body just didn’t know it yet. Axe was actually the first one to get shot. Marcus said he was leaned up between these two big rocks, peeking out the side of one with his rifle. Marcus watched the first round go through and through Axe’s chest. He said Axe slumped forward against the rock for half a second, muttered “well that sucks,” and was right back up slotting dudes with his weapon, right back into the fight. That’s how hard these dudes are.

You have to listen to the real speech about what really went down and what the movie got right... The real life version was even worse than what was depicted in the movie. In real life when he fell off the cliff he bit his tongue in half and swallowed it then had to throw it back up and bite it so he didnt lose it.

Even though I was raised as a Military brat, I can only watch certain type of War/Military movies. I didn't happen to see this until it got to Tv, and even with it edited some, it was very tough and tragic to see what that squad went through. 😢 I've watched the movie a couple of times but when they just all are going through the crap they are in those rocks, I just can't fully watch. I wish it could've been different for all of them, incl. their Commander and ppl who died in the Chopper. Brave ppl all of them.🇺🇸 I felt all the actors did a great job in the movie. It's kinda funny in a sense that 2 of them were in X-Men movies. 😊 Taylor Kitsch played- Gambit in Wolverine: Origins, and Ben Foster was Angel in X-Men: The Last Stand. (He's also married to Laura Prepon.) If you guys want a lighter Military movie, react to- Battleship with Taylor K. 😊

There’s several documentaries, “the warfighters” on history channel is on RU-vid it’s from the army rangers perspective and Marcus is also interviewed. Also another doc where the afghan guy who rescued Marcus is interviewed and he talks about surviving taliban assassination attempts and they kill his nephew, there’s several podcasts as well where different groups talk about that day and trying to get there and rescue him.

Also, the first news that broke was that a helicopter was shot down so they sent every branch of the military to that mountain to search, every special ops group including seal team 6 were there (rob O’Neil the guy who shot bin Laden) talks about being there on Marcus’s podcast. Most of the non navy seal searchers didn’t know there was a seal team on the ground until a couple days into the search.

It all boils down to their squad talk about the rules of engagement. We can say what we would do as civilians but for them, it’s what they were trained to do and act. I’m just amazed at what they pulled off in that whole mess.

You know, something you should check out. Even though it’s not a movie. But is nevertheless amazing, is “Generation Kill” it’s about the first invasion of Iraq in 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom. And follows a company of Recon Marines. Definitely worth a watch. A cool little detail about the making of this movie. Marcus Luttrel, was on set to personally train the actors on how to move, how to shoot, and how to communicate. In his words, when speaking to the cast. “You’re not going to fail my brothers” And speaking to the cast themselves, Danny Dietz’ mother said at the premiere “Thank you, for giving our son back to us for two hours”

For the past 4 years my brother-in-law has been participating in The Murph Challenge on Memorial Day and this year my sister and her friend joined him. You have to do a mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats, and then another mile run and do all of it in a 20lb vest or body armor. The proceeds of the event go to the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
