Easy to say she should’ve kept the bag, but when you’re forking out that kind of money, you shouldn’t then have to spa the bag at an additional cost. Hermes’ claim to exclusivity is based on the quality of their products period!

Yes I agree as with any luxury. However it's still plausible that it was fat that came to the surface that may not have became apparent until storage conditions at the store which would explain why Charis mentioned it felt dry . Something I also pointed out in the video when passing quality control those white marks may not have been there 🤷‍♀️. The store should have offered to send it to Paris for a check at no charge. The stores handling of the issue addressed wasnt correct

Wow. How did this house gain so much control of their customers. First of all they created this exclusive club simply by not producing enough bags. Then a sales person decides who they want to sale a bag too. Then if you're the lucky person they decide to "offer" you a bag and then you pay some ridiculous amount in the thousands just to have this bag.... You don't really have any choice of which bag they pick for you.... and in alot of cases people are waiting a couple of years to be "offered" the privilege of purchasing these bags. I bet that if no one accepted these "offered" bags this house would start producing enough bags. I really think that a drop of leather conditioner would have solved her problem. But why should she pay thousands for a bag and then need to condition it herself. And the house feels that she has the aduciaty to point out a flaw after she was privilege enough to be "offered" a bag. You take what we give you and pay whatever we say and that's it. Because we don't breath air and we walk on water and are beyond reproach. The whole process seems ridiculous. All this is for the status of saying I have a Birken. I'm so glad I have passed this stage in my life....Ladies you're value is not in or attached to any bag.

I agree with a lot you have said especially given the experiences I went through with this brand. Even though absolutely I still buy their products but I don’t care for their bag offers lol I’ll buy the stuff I want and absolutely I consider if it holds value too cos what if I don’t want it anymore I have a right to sell what I no longer want . But absolutely what you have said has a tonne of truth in it

My first birkin in Togo Etain had the same small cracks and when I noticed this on the pick up day, my SA called the store Manager. She took the bag immediately away for destruction - there was no discussion possible. I received a new Birkin 1 month later and it was perfect.

I'm glad your store was very helpful that's exactly how it should be. The bag in this video should have at least been taken to Paris for assessment if it was just fat coming to the surface then easy fix but if it really was dry leather then different story.

I would have returned it. Quality is quality, and she didn’t get the quality that is expected of Hermes. On a side note, watching your videos is very gratifying. Very knowledgeable when Hermes.

You definitely did this video for clickbait. I don’t think you had any reason to put your two scents on someone’s decision about something that they spent thousands on. Just because you will be okay with it, make a reacting video like this was super unnecessary because you’ve done nothing but make the other person seem like they were just “whining”. I am not a follower of Lvlovercc but I don’t think you had any good reason to contradict her reasonings for returning a bag that costs thousands. Just because you would have just kept the bag and took it to get spa doesn’t mean that her reasoning for returning the bag was not reasonable either. This video all together was nothing but a waste of time and for clickbait only, stick to your own contents about yourself instead of trying to bring in other RU-vidrs to get views.

i did this video to inform because hermes quality was put into question, even though no brand is perfect some aspects have an explanation. and this is a common question posed on the purseforum too where people have thought the bags have cracks when it was the togo grain - also answered by some wonderful H experts on TPF. you may choose to think its click bait you are entitled to your opinion and thus so am i. isnt irony wonderful.

I have that problem with my craie Birkin with ghw . I bought at flagship store in Paris. I didn't notice or check when I bought it. I was too happy that I can score a birkin. Only after a few years later and I barely use it, the most I only took out like 5 time from the box. I saw so many cracking from inside leather around the edges of each side of the bag. I sold to Fashionfile. My other birkins don't have the same problem which most of them i store in their boxes.

There is a reason to pay over $12000 for a bag. People pay for the quality they expected. I know you are saying she should keep it because it is hard to get it again, but she definitely should not keep the one with failed quality control. If me, I am not going to keep the bag that made me unhappy.

"She should keep" it is just my personal opinion but I also said there is no way with her mindset she could keep it because she would be unhappy looking at it even in her cupboard and wouldn't be able to enjoy the bag. That's why I said if the shoe were on the other foot I would keep it😉

It appears you’re so caught up in the name rather than the quality of the bag. So, in your opinion not only should she have kept it but then take it to be repaired all because of the name of the bag. For a brand new bag, it should not be that loose, it should be more stiff. For that price, it had better be dang close to perfect. She did the best thing by returning it. You apparently try to justify everything by coming across as some type of expert. I hope Hermes paid you enough because you are sounding a bit off.

Really appreciate your insights. It’s true that when you’re spending so much money, everything should be perfect but it’s equally important to know these handbags are hand-made so each has its unique characteristics. Well what I can say about this and other luxury lines, they know how to hook a fish don’t they? Get us so hyped up we must be seen carrying their luxury bags around so others will envy us. Then to actually have a SA DECIDE, and you know they do, if you are worthy enough to sell to. No. I’m out of the luxury pond now. It’s getting so ridiculous. Apart from the component of your comment that I'm crazy lmfao I agree on given the price point I totally understand why she would want to return it cos as I mentioned you shouldn't expect less than perfect when it's luxury. In my personal opinion I would user a cleaner and conditioner on the sangles (as mentioned) and if the small bits of white was not fat coming to the surface which happens to all leathers when exposed to fluctuating climates then I would just use the bag and wait until it needed a spa overall to be addressed. All bags should be spa'ed at some point or you reduce the longevity of your luxury handbag.

Personally I feel if your not happy with the item of that price you should be able to return/exchange it if you haven’t used it within a timeframe even if it’s two weeks. If not they will take it in and fix it for free it shouldn’t be you should be lucky to get the bag so deal with it as if she won it or was given it for free lol

When I saw the video title I was like "this is very brave" and suspected there will be some comments backfiring... I imagine it was not easy to balance knowledge sharing and seeming like you are taking the other side in the story. As a fellow Hermes lover who also delved into the BKC world and spent a lot of time researching about the leathers and craftsmanship I would totally agree with you opinion on taking the bag and that it was atypical (not defect). However that should not take anything away from the original video and Charis' experience. I really felt for her especially the SA reaction to her asking questions and returning the bag.

Oh... that’s a really sad story... she looks very frustrated. She mentioned she got the bag from Dallas I recall... it’s very informative as well. Thank you for putting this reacting video together. yes that SA showed no empathy at all! which would have made the whole experience far worse. I personally only like the Mini lindy but the other sizes are known to be great for work bags and day-to-day for those who need to carry more. the shoulder birkin made by jean paul gaultier is quite nice i prefer that to the shoulder kelly, both styles however are discontinued so must buy preloved :)

Great information, I do feel same as Charis. To me that would also be a defect. It would definitely bother me. Sometimes it’s hard to let go but if it’s something that bothers me it will continue to. So what if they can’t exchange or repair it, in that case they don’t refund either? Under European law in case of a defect the store has the right to exchange or repair and if they can’t do that the store has to refund, is that not the same in the US? I do find these ‘cracks’ very weird and looks cheap with regard to the product and the price. It looks like the paint or the upper layer is gonna and I think it will peel off. It’s definitely a defect legally so I don’t agree with you. Handwork or not (what does that matter anyway) you may expect that this bag remains in good condition and this is not good condition for such an extremely expensive bag. Most vloggers keep their bags on a shelf unprotected and expose it to light, hot or cold air depending on season or air conditioning which I don’t find a good thing to do. It amazes me by the way Your Kelly has two huge dents by the way on the front from the side parts that have dented the front, probably your leather there is really thin. Not great.

This is an interesting topic. I knew Hermes bags are not identical when it comes to leather and stitching because it is hand made. Not knowing these characteristics would turn you off definitely if you see any "flaw". Real leather has flaws because it is an animal skin. I'm sure Charis has her issues but we are talking about Hermes, a bag from the store. It is really something i've never heard of. But she should do what makes her feel comfortable. Sad because that's one of my wish bag.

yes absolutely agree with you not one hermes bag is the same as the other due to their leather. they also go through a tumble process with minimal treatment/manipulation of the leather unlike some other luxe companies. this gives their bags that beautiful leather smell and luxurious feel

Hi Mel! I found this video fascinating! I have the exact same B30 Gold GHW Togo. I came upon lvlovercc’s video shortly after I scored my Birkin. Subsequently, I inspected mine, and found a couple of minute spots on the sangles that had a similar appearance. It didn’t bother me however, because it looked like it was simply the fine line between the grains of leather (as you’d explained in detail). They’ve never been an issue and my Birkin still looks perfect and brand new. That said, I can totally understand her desire for a “perfect” bag! Thanks for another insightful video! P.s. Northern Texas climate, Dallas, is not as hot and humid as southern Texas and often quite comfortably dry but with lots of fluctuating temperatures from the continental plains to the north and the southern ocean gulf air.

Your a world of information and it’s always appreciated. Two things though it was a defect or known possible problem so I do think Hermes could have just changed the handles. I know that’s an expense for the store or co but should you really have to pay to fix something that you pay so much for and it’s so hard to obtain in the first place. Second I live in Florida, humidity galore, what Hermes leather would you recommend for my climate? Oh and your baby is just precious.

For florida i think epsom, because its an artificial heat pressed grain the leather is not treated, also Swift, evercolour & Novillo because they are very oil saturated swift more so and as you know water and oil dont mix so it will be less vulnerable to the leather soaking up the moisture, also the smoother grain makes it easier to keep a closer eye on the leather. Tadelakt should also be fine since it has a transparent top coat kind of like when we apply a clear nail polish. Togo and clemence would have some risk and require closer monitoring also i wouldnt get any unfinished leathers they are far more vulnerable to the affects of humidity

I think there is a misconception that luxury items should be “perfect”. These items are made by human beings so imperfections are part of that. I actually agree with you. If it didn’t take away from the usability of the item, I would use it, get my wear & tear and then spa it. It is like the people who keep the plastic on the hardware. These items are meant to be used not worshipped. With that said, I do believe the customer service was lacking. That experience should have been perfect.

100% customer service was definitely lacking I can agree on that too! I also agree about the degree of perfection, it's a subjective thing also and I lean more towards the side of hand made justification so naturally every bag will differ and as long as there is nothing seriously wrong or greatly obvious it doesn't phase me.

As someone that shops at Dallas as their main store, I believe there has also been some changes in store since this has happened. I do just want to say, although it does not appear at surface to be a fabulous experience -- the Dallas store, along with all of their staff, are great. They have made virtually any Hermes dream I've ever thought of come true so far and they've literally gone so above and beyond for me.. so her experience is definitely not a one size fits all!

I know this is an old video but Dallas has had a lot of temp changes and depending on when this was made there was the great ice storm in October of 2020. Everything in texas lost power and froze. However Dallas is normally hot and humid. You never know one day to the next. I’m not sure when the bag was in the store.

Naaah she shouldn’t have kept it! From a store a bag dyed uneven, it’s just UNACCEPTABLE! also the spa isn’t free and they also decline to service certain bags or FLAWS*** (it IS a flaw)... 🙄🙄🙄

I actually walked into a Dallas Hermes Boutique and asked for a Birkin. Didn’t tell them my name or anything. They had one still in the plastic wrap that just came in and they sold it to me. Gold, white stitching, gold hardware...it is perfect. It doesn’t have those issues. Mine is a 35. Always ask...you never know But yes, it is possible to get a Birkin without them knowing your buying purchases. They found out when they rang me up.

Hi Mel, this was an interesting commentary. Explaining the pseudo-defect was very informative. Based on what we know about the situation, the bag wouldn't be so much my concern as the seemingly awful customer service experience! Perhaps I'm privileged to have a great relationship with my local Hermes boutique and SA, but I wouldn't give my money to a rude SA. Commenting on Charis's mindset seems inappropriate/out-of-line simply because she is the only one who dealt directly with the situation, but overall helpful content

Oh yes that's why I said she is totally entitled to how she felt because only she is the one who went through it, I did try my best to emphasise that no one can take away how she felt with the experience and her decision because she had a right to feel that way , but perhaps because I focused more on the leather and craftsmanship aspect that that component of the reaction was lost in the sea amongst other details I expressed.

But definitely i could do a flip side to that and film a video on the Hermes bags I actually don't like! Because there are some I'm no fan of 😂

Oh yes that's right she was visiting. That's probably better if she had kept the bag take it to a different store for a spa. Hermes bags can be sent for spa from any Hermes store . But that's just an option and she didn't want to keep it and I totally respect that too.

Why would someone spending that kind of money accept a product that is not perfect? Hermes is considered a luxury brand--get it right. I'm actually amazed this would be ok in luxury retail. . I've worked in hotels for 40 years, and if an employee at a luxury hotel acted liked these SAs they would be out on their asses. As they used to say at the Waldorf -Astoria. "The difficult immediately. The impossible may take a few few minutes longer."

I really enjoyed that informative video and yet you showed respect for the buyer’s feelings. Although it’s not technically a crack, the colour was not as perfect as one would like for the amount of money one pays. Especially when Hermes is known for its craftsmanship, one would expect the bag to be of “perfect” condition without the need to bring it to the spa after purchasing it. If it wasn’t such a difficult bag to get hold of, I think everyone would just return/ exchange it without a second thought. I watched the original LVloverCC video quite a while ago, glad that you explained what was really “wrong” with the leather, I had always wondered what it was. It kind of left me hanging. 😆

Hey there! I’m a new subscriber here! Honestly, I think it’s better if she had kept the bag. Sure it wasn’t 100% perfect but to return it? It just doesn’t make sense especially when she can’t even get a refund and she will just get store credit. Considering the chances of getting offered a bag is so rare, it just makes more sense to keep it. If she wants to get her money back or maybe make a little money out of it, she could consign it as it is still brand new and she could probably sell it for more. Definitely should’ve kept it

The short of it is. Leather is a natural animal skin. Some is blemished a little bit some a lot. It could have been a moisture problem or the skin was dry. Either you respect and love the patina or you don't. Regardless she accepted the bag and paid an enormous amount of money for it. Life lesson look it over with a magnifying glass if you have to to be satisfied with the purchase. Hermes has an awful lot of rules attached to a purchase. I will keep buying pre loved.

I just bought this same combo (B30 Gold w/ GHW) from the boutique in July. This is a really difficult call. I'm not sure that I would've known that those white marks weren't cracks or a defect so I would have returned as well. I'd also be concerned that there may be other "defects" that I may not have noticed yet. I also have a really understanding SA who I know would be able to get me a replacement so I'm sure this plays a role in my decision to return.

You should get a perfect bag as you are paying thousands of dollars for it. No excuses about the leather or the stiches or the paint. A well done leather bag does not have white scratches when you use it. I have many leather bags as Uruguay is a country where leather has very high quality.

If Hermes stands by their quality and with their bags being so exclusive to acquire then they should allow the customer to be “picky” with the finish of the leather no questions asked. The cracks appear very prominent therefore looks imperfect. Quality control did not do their job properly. Perhaps Hermes could have offered Charis a imperfection discount but I’m sure that this goes against Hermes policy.

Yes I did! Like 3 years ago. But what I found was that they are too thick even though softer than felt especially on swift they show through and can see that outline of the insert. Other thing I really hated most of all was that I lost so much space in the handbag using the maitai inserts they are far too thick even tho 'plush' you loose way too much storage space. Hands down nothing beats 7rp.

Why keep a bag which is not the way should be? this is an expensive bag and if we all accept this “small” flows soon the brands will expect that they can give us crap Ana we will bug it.Sorry but I don’t agree that she should accept a bag that is new and will need a repair! When buying these bags, and for the price paid, I don’t understand why she didn’t look it over more carefully? I know when I purchase, I look at ever inch and stitch inside and out. This way if there are any questions, the SA is right there. I agree with you regarding leather texture. Too many people want these bags but have no clue about the leather and the variations of the leather. That’s what pisses me off. They hear “Togo” because it’s popular and that’s it. I’m SMH at her and this situation that could have been handled at the boutique.

I would have loved that bag!!! I'm currently searching/working on getting that exact combo. The resale market is crazy, and you get one with actual wear for a marked up price!!! Charis is great and I too enjoy her videos and she's lucky to have a subie who was willing to sell to her. I guess it's one of the side benefits to the work a RU-vidr puts in. I am going to the spa not my purse…LOL! The reason on the strict return policy is people will purchase a bag for an event then turn around & return it the next day. I understand why they developed the policy but it is a pain for legitimate customers.

Charis would have benefited from your explanation. If you are not knowledgeable, it would be hard to know the white lines are not from drying of the leather -which, I think, is a more serious issue.

Even though she was totally also right to return the bag it would have been nice if she had more of a "leather craftsmanship" explanation before making her final decision so she could weigh all pro's and con's

It’s patently obvious what’s happened here. The person who made her bag used a piece of leather that hadn’t been tanned and treated properly. Every hide the artisans encounter aren’t all grade A. It’s the hide. The outer straps where the unsightly cracking is could just be picked off and replaced, not a big job

The glaze was applied at the wrong temperature I would guarantee it! She should have had him pull a different bag off the shelf in the same leather and compared the edges.

I have a gold Birkin 30 but mine is epsom and mine does not have those little cracks. I think it is a flaw and absolutely should not have had that. I think the edging coating was applied or formulated in the wrong temperature. I used to have custom bags made in China before I could afford real ones. That cracking would occur on the edge coatings because of the temperature of the working environment at different times of the year.

the leather wasnt cracked but there was some lost colour inbetween the grains. could have been for a multitude of reasons as mentioned but still fixable for sure , the SA should have allowed the bag to go to paris for spa/assessment.
