Today I share my opinion on the video that Mel from Purse on Fleek recently released on why she'll never shop at the Hermes Boutique in Sydney, Australia again.
Currently, Mel has re-uploaded the video, but had disabled comments.

Yes this was very balanced and non-judgmental whilst still providing a personal perspective. I watched her video and felt that she was really emotional and frustrated. I did feel the HR and SA were overreacting and could’ve handled the situation differently but they could’ve also just outright banned her from the store. I agree she and the SA were not actually communicating well and I took away from it that the SA felt harassed and felt that she was only trying to work the system. You had a great point about social media as there have been a couple of you tubers try a wishlist strategy or even a walk-in strategy and be turned down.

The first time I ever saw an Hermes bag, it was in a movie. A lady came into a room and sat a tan Kelly bag down on a chair...and I fell in love. I had never heard of Hermes. Had no idea of what a Kelly bag was. I rewound and looked at that bag over and over, I loved the lines of the bag, the color, the richness, the handle, the little straps and flap on the front. Years later, by happenstance, I learned that Grace Kelly had a bag created for her and when I saw the picture, BAM! it was my bag! I, from a small town in Tennessee, looked up the closest Hermes store, and I drove to Atlanta. I walked my country self in and asked to see a Kelly bag in tan...and the whole store turned and looked at me like I had two heads and a tail...lol. Thankfully, a wonderfully kind SA took me to the side, and explained to me the exclusivity of Hermes bags, and told me they didn't have one in the store for me to see. Talk about disappointment! I was crushed! But then he took me on a tour of the store and spoke to me of the brand and the items and how they were made...and I fell in love with the scarves. I had never seen anything so beautiful and so fine as those scarves. I had to have one. So I saved my money, and I went back. That SA spent at least 2 hours pulling scarves and helping me make a decision, and I came home with an amazing piece of art. Over the 25 years since, I have bought many scarves in many states and countries, along with countless ties for my husband and son. I never did get that "tan" Kelly bag, lol. But, now that I have my son at the point of almost having his PhD, I may regain some "shoe and bag money", and revisit that dream, lol. Who knows, one of these days I may walk into a Hermes store in Paris or London, or Atlanta...and they will have one waiting, just for me.

I hope you get your dream bag ❤️ I think the Hermes marketing strategy and treatment of customers is pathetic. Every human being is wonderful and unique in their own way, and a luxury brand made of soulless money has no right to decide who is worthy of holding what is essentially a very beautifully presented dead animal’s skin.

I thought she was being too personal/overfamiliar. She would talk about what she did for Easter, planning to have a baby, her health... Not to mention all the other Hermes items she sells.

But I think it could be seen negatively (especially since you can't buy the packaging at Hermès (they say it on their website, it's in their FAQ 😉)) that she sells those boxes or ribbons on her website. If I would want to do this, I probably wouldn't link it to my RU-vid channel.
@AC1984LN
@AC1984LN 3 года назад
@@thalia7104 Absolutely agree that the Twillys are in no way being represented to be authentic Hermès. But it is the obvious copying in style and name. (Eg they are not labeled scarf, Bandeau or Mitzah). If that was a brand I was involved with or worked for I would have an issue with it. Especially when it is someone who loves the brand that is selling them. There are also very heavily “inspired” pieces on the site of other brands (Eg. Altered monogram or copies with no branding). This alone I think would be enough to give Hermès a lot of pause.

As a former SA from a luxury brand, I should say that we really DON’T CARE if it’s your 10th wedding anniversary, if you’re giving birth to your first child, if you’re surprising your beloved one, etc. Imagine getting huge emails from every client... it’s overwhelming. We don’t have time to sit and read through lengthy emails. We also don’t care how much you’ve spent in the store, there’s always people that have spent triple/quadruple the amount you had. Be nice, keep it simple, don’t act like you’re entitled to something. (Edited for grammar, English is not my first language 🌝)

When you have to ask a sales associate for something or demand you have that insider access from a SA you’re not one of our client YET or client of the store YET. There are a number of reason why she’s not there yet: 1. New relationship with an SA (even if you had spent x amount when you change from one SA to another it takes time to rebuilt a personal relationship) unless you’re a client of the store, which is totally different from someone who walks in and buys RTW, BAG, Shoes in one day. When you’re a client of the associate we can attest for you to store management and doors will be open for you. When you’re a client of the store you have unlimited access to things many regular people walking in the doors won’t. There’s hierarchy inside luxury stores and it’s not for faint of heart. To gain access you have to be kind to the associate if they’re nice to you. Ask for them every visit, don’t deal with more then one person at a time. Don’t have to buy every time or ask for things, just know what you want, get it and leave hints of your likes and preferences we’ll reach out to you when we got the product or if we think you’ll like it. Comeback to them if you want to return or service the product. You’re appreciated because not everything will work out for you and we want to know what not to sell you again. It’s just how you building relationships and gain more access. Don’t stay too long and demand the person walk you through all the hand bags and RTW on the floor, it’s wasteful and overbearing. We have many other clients who are actually buying without even stepping foot in the store and spends even more money then you can imagine without a third of the endless demands and requests. She learnt the hard way, spent levels doesn’t always dictate how you’re treated and if you’ll gain access to any exclusive product for that matter. Relationships does more so then not. Sales associates are not your adversary, we’re there to be your guide and to show you the way so to speak.

That doesn't qualify a SA to say it's an occupational threat. You choose to work as a SA. There are customers that are very chatty and love to share thier lives and build connections. Especially in hermes where there is no transparency regarding when and how they would offer you the chance to purchase a bag, everyone wants to have a good relationship with thier SA. It's not even about spending a lot, it's about no transparency at all. Yes there are always people spending more, but does that mean a customer cannot be curious about why other people that spent similar or even less are getting offered but she didnot? Is it illegal or something to wish to be fairly treated? Also, I am sick of SA acting like being a SA is more previliaged than others. You do not have the right to educate anyone. That's not professional. I am curious which luxury brand were you working with coz there is definately something wrong with the staff training and selection process.

I do believe Mel is a sweet lady but when you buy an H bag, Hermes is looking for you to enjoy it for a very long time and even pass it on to your dearest (as for a Rolex). I understood she has resold her first bag (which obviously is her right) but is also reselling dust bags, ribbons, boxes??? This is definitely not the kind of customer Hermes is looking for and that explains her reputation was done at the boutique... Hermes won't sell to resellers but to clients and those should feel privileged and honoured by their unique craftsmanship. That is the H vision and they want their customers to embrace it.

Former SA for another luxury brand. If it’s known that a client is a reseller, the SA cannot sell to that client anymore because of company polices and that can lead to termination. And when she stated that she was clearly depressed for not getting a bag, this becomes a problem.

I just feel if you resell you cannot expect a bag 🤷🏻‍♀️ also I don’t think anyone likes to be so closely followed up on so I don’t blame that Hermès SA for wanting to sever ties. However Mel in no way deserves the awful attacks.

I feel as all the different requests that were emailed to the SA came across as her asking for items to search for the magic key that was going to unlock her dream bag. It was certainly overwhelming just to read them. I don’t think Hermès treatment was overly polite, but it is in line with what you come to expect from high end brands. Unfortunately treat ‘em mean keep ‘EM keen works. These bags would not be as coveted if they weren’t as strongly protected. Unfortunately the reselling and the contents of her EBay store are very much not in line with luxury house image. Samples, makeup decanting, knock off twillys, dust bags & shopping bags along with her RU-vid channel this is very likely to have contributed to her being blacklisted.

SAs are not there to be friends...they are there to sell a product. Doesn't matter if it's Hermes, Neiman Marcus or any retailer, they want your money. They dont care about your pregnancies, health issues and anniversaries. She needs to calm down...there are bigger issues in this world than her friend getting a bag before her.

A Chanel SA once told me that they don’t like youtubers discussing their store experience, pointing out faulty items, wear and tear etc aka regular girls who happen to have a passion for luxury. Who they want are sophisticated clients who are quite private. The selling of packaging etc sends an impression that a brand like Hermes wants to distance itself from. It’s upsetting for her now but actually being cut off as it were might help her to lessen the obsessive aspect and focus on other things. I find it ironic that she critiqued LvloverCC returning a faulty bag but sees her communications with Hermes staff as appropriate.

When I knew I spent 27,000€ ( included 3 handbags; gp 30, toolbox 26and Evelyne) I thought I spent too much there now so I stopped buying anything there ( for 2 years). I just waited patiently because I know many pp wants black b25 with ghw. Meanwhile I went shopping in another country. I told the new SA my story. I rebuilt my purchase history there. I got 2 of B30,C18, C 24, K25 and SO B25 from other boutique. I'm happy with the new boutique. I totally forgot about it. At the end I got my bag. Wanting to maintain a high end luxury channel without the actual money/lifestyle, she has to be smarter. This has happened to resellers in Europe who speaks language other English, when Hermes finds out, no more leather goods. Mel in Melbourne also says it is even hard for her to score a bag from Chadstone boutique and she is a genuine fan of the brand so she has turned to preloved market too.

dude she was intense and asked EVERY email for the new stuff. She emailed again and again and again for the same thing - knowing they don''t have it, then creepily looked after another persons bag. It's not about her not being a good person, she's absolutely sweet, but when the luxury brands notice that you're just a purse obsessed individual, seemingly reading all of those purse blogs and just being obsessive they do try and steer clear of you. People need to stop being so obsessed. It's odd.

Mel also did a video a year ago with her worse luxury purchases. Two of hermes products are on there, and I think your right in saying people will watch her videos. She does seem very critical and obviously hermes is not going to like that. She seems a nice girl, but also very demanding. She clearly has a lot of money and enjoys your designer brands etc. But ultimately there is so much more going on in the world other than buying a hermes bag. She doesn’t need to get upset about it, but I think she’s a bit of princess in that respect. I can imagine there was good and bad points on both sides, for hermes to ring her and say she’s OH hazard is awful and it’s clear she isn’t but I can see that she’s very pushy and also you can see she feels entitled.

Well stated. I really feel for Mel because she truly is so passionate about the brand. I’ve been watching her videos for months and rely on her as my guru for all things Hermès. I do think Hermès had no plans of selling her a new bag, but they would happily let her continue to spend loads of money. I’m sure they also didn’t like the fact that she was constantly buying and selling their products. I personally have no time for fake friend relationships with an SA who is really just doing their job to sell me stuff. The preloved route works best for me. I get what I want with no drama and lost time “befriending” a SA. I keep my personal business to myself, the SA doesn’t need to know when I’m planning to get pregnant (they probably don’t care either 😂). I hope people can be more considerate of Mel’s feelings and not send such mean comments. There’s no need for this. Honestly, I will not even waste my time and hard earned money or not a hard earned money, chasing Hermes. It is just me. @@siyrean I don't believe she meant the emails or conversations to imply any threat, but I would've gone to HR myself and explained that "I have a client that seems too personally invested, too obsessed, and frankly, a little off kilter", and now that she's expressed she feels slighted, scorned, spurned--by me, the store, and/or the brand--I fear for my safety. A lot of people snap when they experience disappointment or feel personally depreciated---that's why we see servers who get shot because they gave the wrong change back, medical receptionists who get stabbed because the wait was too long, bosses who get murdered by disgruntled employees, coaches who get poisoned by parents whose children were not chosen for the team or the play they tried for. I would've been very concerned about this woman not understanding boundaries, not realizing that as a sales person, it is completely inappropriate of a client of mine to share that she and her husband are trying for a baby, or dealing with cancer, or recovering from the flu, or any of the other million of private details she gave in those emails as a way to garner favor. And that conversation implying "I know you gave a bag to that other woman---when I was MORE deserving of it..." would've concerned me. In another context, those emails would've been perceived as stalking. I would've been very scared of a client who does not seem very grounded in reality feeling rejected and taking it out on me.

The amount you need to spend to get a bag is crazy! The thing is if you take the money you would spend in the store to be offered a bag and go pre-loved, you'll probably spend less anyway.

The SA should have asked her to summarize her requests. It would be overwhelming for any SA to read such a long personal email. it was almost like emotionally bullying the SA to give her a bag because of her big events in life. The HR was WRONG to call her and the store manager could have handled it properly by inviting Mel to the store and personally assist her with all her multiple requests. BAD customer service on Hermes's part. However, Mel has onsold some Bags she acquired in the 5 years shed become a customer. Hermes dont like onsellers. BUT at the end of the day Mel is still a customer who spent money on the brand. SHame on Hermes Sydney to treat her with ZERO compassion.

I don’t think she was trying to bully them with requests- I think she was just trying to explain to her why it was important to her. Honestly all I see is a luxury brand taking advantage of people.

I agree... I think she was just trying to give way too much info in those emails. In her mind it all made sense and came together easy to understand but to anyone else the emails looked so overwhelming. I think she was polite in them but it was too much. I wish someone from Hermès would have just explained that to her.. how better to go about all of it before it turned into a big mess. And they most certainly handled it wrong... she in no way “deserved” that.

New subscriber here. I watched purseonfleek for a year but found the latest video very off putting and feel that you know what you are getting into when dealing with Hermès (have mini Kelly, mini Roulis, And Constance). It’s a choice to shop there ultimately and most shop without expectations. I think there is more going on there then disclosed in the video- the SA felt concerned enough to go to HR- these SA deal with very difficult customers so I feel there is more there than meets the eye. I appreciate your balanced take and look forward to watching your videos.

I watched her video and she seems a bit spoiled and completely out of control. If you look at it from an SA perspective, she was obnoxious in her constant lengthy emails and way too much information. Who gives a crap that it's her 5th wedding anniversary? I'm sorry, 5 years is absolutely no big deal. It's nothing. Most marriages last 5 years. 25 Years? Sure. 50 Years? Definitely. 5 Years? No. She's also lucky she can afford to spend $200k+ at Hermes and should think about that. I also don't think Hermes attacked her in any way. You have to look at it from the SA perspective (which you have in this video). If I was her SA I would go to HR too, because I wouldn't know how to deal with her. Sure she was friendly and polite in her email, but she was just obnoxious. How many times does she have to say she wants the Constance 18? Good grief. I also watched her response video and she's nasty to the people in her comments who disagree with her. She's obnoxious. I am unsubscribing to her channel. You though, are a joy!

Excellent video. It's great to hear an Australian response to this. I agree that a lot of comments on there eventually went off a tangent as you said and were attacking her. The (now closed) thread on TPF was personal and wild. I think people can give constructive critiques but personal attacks are wrong. I think it was a mixture of things but I think the straw that broke the camel's back was politely confronting the SA about the Rose Sakura quota bag that another client got it and she has been denied a quota bag for years. I think Mel's reselling of Hermes packaging, ribbons etc definitely put her on the radar of Hermes and I think they had her in their sights. The emails were way too long and I think they made the SA tense. Games are meant to be fun, it's not worth getting stressed over a quota bag. I hope Mel continues to film but just becomes more measured in her approach. I also think she will never be able to be offered a quota at Hermes Sydney as well. There is lots of chatter in FB groups that she is probably blacklisted for good at Hermes worldwide which is super sad.

She wonders why Hermes did want to sell to her when you obviously resell them on. You ask them for it then you sell them on. Make it make sense. She was desperate to keep on having them sell to her so you didn't have to shop preloves and not make any money reselling them. The whole reason why she didn't get your bag is they don't want to sell to someone who resells them on some pretext months down the line at an inflated price.

I agree with your thoughts on how everything just turned into such a bad situation for everyone involved. I too also felt the emails may have seemed pushy or demanding, maybe even overwhelming for the SA. The politeness of the SA just created an ongoing miscommunication on how each of them thought their client-SA relationship was going. Mel thought it was ok and the SA probably wasn’t too into it. I also read in the comments that the store manager has a hand in approving bag offers. Is it true? If yes, then the SM actually blocking her meant he just didn’t like her (maybe because of her social media presence). The world is small now and it’s a valid speculation as to how being a youtuber may have worked against her relationship with the store. All the other points (ex. her purchase history) are also valid assumptions, I think. I just thought having HR actually reach out to her with a lot of hostility leaves such a bad taste in your mouth. It’s like placing a restraining order against a customer and the whole situation was just handled poorly by the store. So unfortunate. It’s hard not to take anything like that personally. Anyway I’m rambling. Good, objective video and thanks for sharing.

In Australia, yes I do believe the Store Manager has to approve each bag (BKC) to a client before being offered. This is what an SA has told me personally so that’s what I’m going off. Thanks for watching and welcome to my Channel 💙💙

When you're comparing Mel to other people who " don't care about the brand and just want it for the status symbol", I mean everyone who buys hermes is for that 1 thing. Status symbol. If u say u love the brand so much and all its heritage etc and don't really care about the status symbol I feel that's being really hypocritical. There are tons of great leather bag makers out there with great craftsmanship. I mean if she wanted one purely for craftsmanship why not buy those more obscure brands? My point is I feel it's not fair to say that only she loves and appreciates the brand so much and that's why it's so unfair she couldn't get the bag and other people who u claim don't appreciate the brand gets bags so easily. If hermes prices fell and suddenly everyone had one and it was as attainable as coach do u think she'd still buy them ? Also what about all the other excellent crafted bags she got then sold quickly? That were not a k or b. I thought she appreciated the brand so much shouldn't she be keeping it ? why was she so stressed over not getting a k/b/c that are of course are the most recognisable bags from hermes ?

😐 Well… The thing is… social class goes beyond $$$. Hermes is very clear about who they want holding their bags. 😥 Even if I’m gifted with one, I won’t have the status to carry it. That’s the uncomfortable reality.

I get that she is upset can be frustrated but let’s don’t forget we are talking about materials things. She shot herself in the feet by selling craps on eBay.. Don’t forget she was selling packages, samples and a lot of items she bought at the boutique including one of the bag she was offer. And it was not 3 years couple of months and make money on it. She has the right to do it but Hermès hate reseller if you are caught you are done. About her wish to have a bag I am the only to things giving 10 options is wrong and usually being put on the wish list isn’t like that. It look like she was just trying to have a bag. When I was trying to buy my first bag ( Paris) I was offer two very high demand bags but I refuse them because of the hardware, couple of days later I got exactly what I want it. I wasn’t just looking for a birkin/Kelly or Constance. The email with her SA was way too saying we are trying to have an other child, the Sakura confrontation. Mentioning her spending which was saying I bought all those pieces to get a bag. SA are doing theirs jobs they are not your friends or therapists. The fact that you spend 100 000€ doesn’t means that you will be offer a bag, having a good relationship with the boutique is key. Everyday SA have people’s asking for bags, so when you have a client how ask 80% of your interaction a bag it’s like irritating. For all those reasons she was blacklist and she got a call to make here understand she is no longueur welcome into the boutique. Hermès is a wonderful house, had a issue with a online package (blush) lost. Customer service is extremely busy so I talk about it to the directrice of my boutique.. She apologized and gave me the blush just like that even if I will get a refund at some point. Don’t thing many house will do that. When you watch her video in my opinion you can just say she did everything wrong and let’s be honest she will never get a bag in Australia. Xx

I am not in that "Hermes game", but I work in store, not a boutique, but it's also a type of store where you build something like relationship to your clients. I think it that situation, when it comes to a "wishlist", Hermes offers so many colours + a selection on hardware, you can't give your SA such a long "shopping list" of stuff you want just because you can't visit the shop very often. And then change stuff on the list, put stuff on and off the list.... You can't expect that they remember whats on that list, and watch out for your stuff the whole day. Espcially when you update your wishlist every month. I would imagine they want people to come in their shops to experience all that stuff for yourself. They want you to touch it, see it, feel it, and experience it, so that you end up buying more things. And if you have a wishlist, then make a choice! Choose that one or two items which are the most important to you. I would tell them if I would perfer a Birkin or a Kelly, with gold or ??? hardware, and what shape (sellier or retourne) and *_what range of colour_* instead of a specific colour! "I would like to buy a Birkin, retourne with gold hardware, in the colour range blue to grey." Thats it.

She was reselling Hermes items. I'd say that was why they didn't offer her another "dream bag". Maybe they should have told her that. Or would that break some sort of rule if they admitted that? Most likely they didn't tell her because she would stop shopping there if she had no hope.
