if you like the "old school vibes", Marilyn Monroe style and so on, you should DEFINITELY react to her live performance at the 1990 Oscar, "sooner or later", still one of her best vocal performances :D
So many to choose from..but maybe at some point react to a live performance...so maybe after Exoress a Yourself the video..and all its film references..check it out live..her performance here is epic and you can see why the world went mad for her..and how she plays with male and female roles and demonstrates that duality within us all..challenging stereotypes and gender roles always ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OaPeGRakU5I.html
Madonna is a professional dancer. She was trained by Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham. And yes, this song and video brought voguing to the mainstream. She took the dancers from the underground gay clubs and put them in the center of the spotlight. That's why this song is such a universal gay anthem. If you love cinema you'll love Madonna. She has many elements from cinema in her work, she pays tribute to directors and works with movie directors. Actually, I will recomnend you reacting to "Express Yourself". The song is a feminist anthem about empowering yourself by owning your sexual nature and understanding your desires, and the video was inspired by german expressionism and recreates the movie Metropolis by Fritz Lang and Tamara Lempika's art deco paintings. In that video she uses a lot of symbolic elements to portray the female and the male aspects of the world.
OMG so the dancers in this video were actual members of the ballroom community? I absolutely love that! I'm definitely going to have to check out Express Yourself, it sounds incredible. I'm definitely an advocate for female empowerment, so I think that video will be VERY fun to dissect and have a real discussion about! Also, art deco is just... GORGEOUS. I can't wait to see what the video looks like! Thank you so much for the nice comment! Hope you're having a good day, I'm sending you my love! ❤️
AYANNA CYMONE in fact Jose Gutierrez featured as one of Madonna’s dancers in this video (also in her movie and tour) also appears in several episodes of Pose. He was from the house of xtravaganza.
@@AYANNACYMONE it's so nice to see someone appreciating Madonna for her cultural content and not just because she looks fabulous. She does. But she's so much more, and there's a deeper layer of meaning in her music and videos. And it's great to have someone seeing and thinking about the cultural content in her work. And of course enjoying her music. Oh and I forgot, Vogue was directed by David Fincher, who directed the movies Fight Club, Seven, Zodiaz, Benjamin Button, World War Z, Panic Room. He also directed two other Madonna videos: Oh Father and Bad Girl. Oh Father is abour her morher's death (she died when Madonna was 5 years old) and her sad childhood.
@@AYANNACYMONE her live performance of Express yourself which is how she opens the Blonde Ambition tour is a great production number and it is on RU-vid
Same thing I'm thinking. Most reactors on here when they listen to Madonna for first time they may simply enjoy it🙂, be intrigued by it😯 or be totally lost on the significance 😑 but THIS girl gets it! She's a big madonna fan in the making and I love to see it!
Depends what you are in the mood for. DO you want sexy (Erotica, Justify my love), angry (Human nature), dance (Hung Up), mystical (Frozen, Bedtime Story), broken heart (Take a bow, Power of Goodbye), or just feel good (Ray of light, Bitch I'm Madonna). She has songs for every mood.
Vogue was never controversial though, it was an immediate hit, though Madonna originally wrote it quickly as a bside to another single. Everyone alive back then still knows this song and video. One note: the editing in this Madonna video is immaculate.
I don't think anyone else has mentioned that this is one of a handful of Madonna videos that were directed by David Fincher (!!!) before he went out to have a pretty successful filmmaking career. As someone who's most definitely NOT a filme student (lol), I can definitely appreciate how great of an eye he has. Congrats on 1K subs, btw! It's actually hard to remember that you're kind of a newbie around here because you totally come off as a natural doing these reaction videos. Can't wait for more Madonna :)
Love your reactions to Madonna, especially this song. I think you’d really love her performance of Vogue at the mtv awards, she recreates a whole drag ball in a dangerous liaisons/Marie Antoinette style. Very Pose.
She doesn't really recreate a drag ball, does she? You've obviously never been to or seen an actual drag ball. Even in "Pose", does any of the balls look like that MTV performance? No.
Valentino Miller ....actually in the opening episode of pose, they steal all the marie antionette outfits from the museum and use them in the ball as French revolutionary realness category, So yeah. And obviously it’s not a recreation of an entire drag ball, it’s a recreation of a performance worthy of a drag ball which she did it with the help of the house of xtrvaganza. But you’re entitled to your opinion - but definitely have another look at Pose as I think you’ll find you’re incorrect in what you’ve said.
Yes, Madonna can dance!! :-) Her live performance of "Express Yourself" from the Blond Ambition Tour showcases her dance energy at its best! I recommend!
Madonna was a dancer first and foremost. Studied dance and got a lot of her moves from the N.Y. club scene. She's ever evolving and takes command. Very confident and sure of herself. Always admired her!! Go Madonna!!✌❤🎶😁
I'm sure, you will love Madonna ballads. She is so special in this category - Take a Bow, You'll See, Bad Girl, The Power of Goodbye, Live to Tell, Oh Father, This Used to Be My Playground
Madonna discovered vogueing when one of her longtime best friends Debi Mazar told her about the 2 guys who were vogueing at the Sound Factory dance club in NYC. They were Jose Gutierrez and Luis Camacho of the House of Xtravaganza. So Madonna went and checked them out and she was blown away by their vogueing that she hired them to be in this music video and be part of her backup dancers for her Blond Ambition Tour and help choreograph some of the performances. The 7 male dancers and the 2 female backup singers/dancers (Donna Delory and Niki Haris who were in M's previous tour Who's That Girl World Tour and all of her tours up the Drowned World Tour for Haris and the Confessions Tour for Delory) also performed in her 90 MTV VMA's performance of Vogue. They were also featured in her documentary Truth or Dare. There is a separate documentary called Strike a Pose that was about how the male dancers' lives were like during her Blond Ambition Tour and how their lives are like now and how they have changed and how they impacted their own fans' lives. It's very observant of you to notice the style of the video. One of Madonna's favorite artists is Tamara Delempicka whose works Madonna owns and one of that artist's paintings is in the beginning of the video. And another painting Andromeda in Chains is in the first shot of Open Your Heart video. Another is a Frida Kahlo. Her favorite poets are Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath. Madonna is dressed in the 30s and 40s styles of the Golden age of Hollywood and she lists the stars of that era in the rap of the song. And this song was included in her I'm Breathless: Music from and Inspired by the Film Dick Tracy. The music from the movie's era which was the 30s was Broadwaylike standards and even though this song Vogue didn't match the genre of the music but the rap name dropping the Hollywood stars somehow tied it together and made it connect. The music video's director was David Fincher who also directed her Express Yourself (which was inspired by Fritz Lang's 1929 movie Metropolis), Oh Father (whose visual esthetic was inspired by the movie Citizen Kane by Orson Welles) and Bad Girl (whose storyline/plot was in the movie Looking For Mr. Goodbar). Madonna herself is film buff especially the European arthouse and independent and foreign films not your average Hollywood cliches blockbuster. Some of favorite film directors are Fellini, Bunuel, Kafka, Visconti, Pasolini and Amaldovar. One of favorite films is by Ang Lee's In The Mood For Love from 2000.
This is ONE of MANY of her awesome hits! This is a REAL diva, Madonna expanded decades and her music can still ROCK any house. WELCOME to the best sounds. The 80s and 90s were awesome! We had waaaay better music than today. Glad to be born back then 💜🎧🎼
I discovered Madonna 2years ago! I was 15 n jus checking out 80’s hits and came across Madonna😩🤩✨ I’m glad I discovered her! I can’t believe my parents like Cyndi laupers!! But not her😭🤦🏻
It’s the hair for me 😍 It’s the face for me 😍 You are stunning, and the fact that you understand & appreciate madonna’s art is everything!! New subscriber !
This video and song was absolutely huge in 1990. No controversy over this video/song whatsoever. Like a Prayer and Justify My Love, now those are a different conversation.
I’m 38 and was obsessed with Vogue and Madonna the first time round when I was 8 or 9 years old. I absolutely love watching you react to the video! It’s like I get to watch it for the first time again 🥰
yes!! I *LOVE* all things film, so I definitely could appreciate the aesthetic going on in the this music video! Thank you so much for such a nice comment! Sending you so much love and light! 🤍✨
Love your reactions..you will enjoy discovering Madonna's discography, videography and live performances...the live performances of vogue across all her tours are brilliant and she twists and reinvents, reinvigorates it every time. Ther are so many to react to..Madonna is really versatile and creative and a very brave, ballsy artist. She has always championed dance music...and across all her work explores do many ideas and themes..I will enjoy watching you discover her..you will get all the references and recognise the messages..love it.Keep doing what you do...so what next..? Go early..go Papa Don't Preach..a hit across the world ..tackling teenage pregnancy head on...Or Live To Tell or Express Yourself.
Thank you so much for the support!! I'm definitely excited to see how she performs live! With music videos this good, I can only imagine how perfect Madonna is on the stage!! I've got some exciting decisions to make about what to react to next! Thanks so much for watching, sending you love! ❤️❤️
A lot of the younger generation just see's Madonna as a 62 year old "has been" now days trying to stay relevant but she is really so much more than that! They don't call her the "Queen of pop" for nothing. Thanks for reacting to some of her videos, which actually is just a small piece of the amazing fantastic artist she is!
You should check out God Control from her latest album. Probably one of the best, most important videos from last year in terms of message and relevance yet flew over most people's heads.
Love, love, love her contributions to visual media and pop art. She exploded into our growing up decades and raised everyone's game. Nobody could compete with her.
It was really interesting to see this videos through your eyes, a new generation. And you got it totally right, the influence of film noir and the 20 and 30s esthetic are really cool in this vid. Above all, it would be fair to say that David Fincher is the genius behind this jewel, he also directed her Oh Father video and Bad girl video as well, and i must say he really is an all time genius, hes career as film director is amazing (Alien 3, Seven). If you liked this youll probably like Freedom by George Michael, thats another video directed by Fincher that is absolutely amazing and in fact is also, as Vogue, a song that speaks about being gay in the 90s, it belongs to the time when George was coming out and it was absolutely imposible to be gay in society, and thats an historic value of both Vogue and Freedom.
Again, your reactions are marvelous. I love your knowledge and wanting to know more. Ive been a fan since the beginning and watching your reactions allows me to relive the initial emotions. You're my favorite RU-vid reactor.
Jose, who is IN this music video, does several cameos in POSE as a judge. He even dances to vogue in the first episode of season 2. He is one of the two gay dancers that Madonna met in the ballroom dance halls and introduced her to / taught her how to vogue!
Well, she's got to react to Justify My Love, then Erotica THEN Human Nature because Human Nature is the response to the backlash she got for those songs/music videos.
Born in 1980, Madonna coming out around '84, became my first impression of what a pop star is. She doesn't get the credit she deserves. She was a visionary and a cultural sponge which was reflected in her ever changing writing style, sound, singing style and stages over the years. Madonna is an actual artist, not a record label product.
Ok, as soon as you dropped 'film noir' I immediately LIKED and SUBSCRIBED!!! YAAASSSSS! I've said on another Madonna comments that she was a MOVEMENT! The impact she had on me and millions of other "young ladies" at the time was life changing. Loved your reaction!
SO many classic Madonna videos to choose from. Express Yourself. La Isla Bonita. Papa Don't Preach. Material Girl. Open Your Heart. Oh Father. Rain. Bad Girl. Deeper and Deeper. Frozen. Ray of Light. Hung Up. I could go on and on.
this was such a nice reaction. it was like fresh air for someone young to get references of the era's gone by. i cant tell you how many times i watch a reaction of people who know nothing about the era or references. thank you.
I love your reaction to this timeless classic. Incredible choreography and every time she performs this it’s a different theme. You should check out her Super Bowl performance this was the opening of a 12 minute set.
Timeless masterpiece. One of the best songs and music videos of all time , directed by David Fincher who went on to become one of the. biggest names in Hollywood.
I love your Madonna reactions! Did you know she is the best selling female recording artist of all time worldwide? Probably, the most influential female recording artist of all time!! I'm eager to see more reactions like this one. Thanks!
Omg, so great to see you recognize and breakdown this video in such an amazing way. I’m so excited to see you recognize Madonna, especially someone your age. Her music and videos are endless. She is definitely a music and visual artist. They go hand in hand with Queen Madonna. Check out her live performances too. Her live vogue performances are all great. Express yourself live on MYV awards, her video , Nothing really Matters. It’s endless. Thanks again 💜👑💜👑💜
Love your reaction to this video and how you were able to identify elements of the "silver screen" in the video. I'm sure you're an "A" student in film school, lol. I would definitely recommend her performance of Vogue at the 1990 VMAs as well her live performance of "Sooner or Later" at the Oscars which is a song from the movie Dick Tracy which is set in that Silver Screen era. Both of these performances were turning points in her career as she transitioned from the '80's to the '90's.
It’s totally old Hollywood you’ve got that right. The director was David Fincher. As a film student, you should know what he went on to do. This was Madonna in her absolute prime. She was 32, broke every rule and became the most famous woman in the world.
Film Noir? Then you will love : Bad Girl Rain Erotica Bedtime stories Take A Bow Oh Father Express Yourself The Power Of Goodbye Nothing Really Matters Frozen All great if you’re studying film as the cinematography is awesome in these videos
Great reaction. Not only appreciating the music but you are seeing the whole 'art' and 'creativity' That is a rare thing and the enthusiasm just flows naturally. Love it. Love your room by the way-showing the 'artistic flare' again.
Wow. Thank you. As somebody of an older generation who enjoys these reactions on videos of my youth, I just subscribed to you (the first person who does these reaction videos that I have subscribe to), because your reactions were actually intelligent. Greetings from Scandinavia. Good luck with your channel.
Your reaction Madonna's videos are so enjoyable to watch! You can clearly see that you are a true student of film, style, media etc. And your comments are so mature for a young person! As a gay guy of 50, who saw Madonna's videos when they were released, I just loved them, but couldn't figure out why - but that's most gay guys lol. Your perspective is so spot on on the few videos I've watched that you are my new favorite reaction video star! You go! You will go so far in your career!! Thank you for appreciating what so many of us older people have loved for so long. YOU are the queen, too!
hey Ayanna! that was a great reaction to an ICONIC song, nice that u pay attention to what's going on and pause to analyze stuff:) i actually paused and subscribed when u mentioned film noir and 20's 30's Hollywood era, that's spot on! Madonna has been so influential ever since she hit the music scene in the 80's and she did it all before everyone:)
Thank you so much for subscribing! Over the summer, I studied a lot of different film genres for a class I was in, so that film noir aesthetic instantly caught my attention! So elegant and glamorous with a hint of mystery! Madonna totally looks like she could be a leading lady in a film from the 20s/30s! She absolutely smashed this video! Thanks so much for the lovely comment! 🤍
Great reaction! And congrats on 1K subs! Madonna's videos are so stylish and are often inspired by specific films or artwork. Like the shot of Madonna from behind in the corset replicates a famous b/w photo by Horst. Hope you'll also check out my fave Madonna video Bad Girl; it's like a mini movie and was directed by David Fincher (like this video).
Thank you soooo much!! Oh my, I've just looked up that photo and it's actually *so* gorgeous! The shadows and lines are beautiful, Madonna did a nice job emulating it! Thanks so much for dropping some knowledge on me! Hope you're having a nice day/night! Sending you love! 🤍
You're really as smart analyzer when you react, and I appreciate that. Some people don't have the mental capacity 😅 Or they're just not able to express themselves time at nonetheless I'm very glad that you are able to!
Actually, the Danny Elfman soundtrack was released separately, but Madonna made her own full album through the Dick Tracy project, including Vogue though it had been written beforehand without this project in mind.
I'm glad to see so many young reviewers checking out Madonna and appreciating everything she did and achieved in her career, both in terms of what she did for women in pop music and what she did for marginalized communities. Then of course, there's simply the masterly artistry of what she does best. I'll continue to watch your videos... you have good insight and see things on deeper levels than most. Madonna almost always had two or three things going on thematically in her work, so it's nice that someone who wasn't even alive during her peak of fame can see beyond just the surface of what she was doing.
Loving your Madonna reaction videos; she has an amazing catalog and I hope you continue to discover her artistry through her music, videos and stage performances . Her message has always been about love and acceptance. She stuck her head out for many ideals, brought so many cultures forward into the mass and created beautiful art along the way. And she still does . Long live the👑 .
